This book was released on 1997-02-27 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applies the well-developed tools of the theory of weak convergenceof probability measures to large deviation analysis--a consistentnew approach The theory of large deviations, one of the most dynamic topics inprobability today, studies rare events in stochastic systems. Thenonlinear nature of the theory contributes both to its richness anddifficulty. This innovative text demonstrates how to employ thewell-established linear techniques of weak convergence theory toprove large deviation results. Book Modifications of Einstein s Theory of Gravity at Large Distances

Download or read book Modifications of Einstein s Theory of Gravity at Large Distances written by Eleftherios Papantonopoulos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-04 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years modified gravity theories have been proposed as extensions of Einstein's theory of gravity. Their main motivation is to explain the latest cosmological and astrophysical data on dark energy and dark matter. The study of general relativity at small scales has already produced important results (cf e.g. LNP 863 Quantum Gravity and Quantum Cosmology) while its study at large scales is challenging because recent and upcoming observational results will provide important information on the validity of these modified theories. In this volume, various aspects of modified gravity at large scales will be discussed: high-curvature gravity theories; general scalar-tensor theories; Galileon theories and their cosmological applications; F(R) gravity theories; massive, new massive and topologically massive gravity; Chern-Simons modifications of general relativity (including holographic variants) and higher-spin gravity theories, to name but a few of the most important recent developments. Edited and authored by leading researchers in the field and cast into the form of a multi-author textbook at postgraduate level, this volume will be of benefit to all postgraduate students and newcomers from neighboring disciplines wishing to find a comprehensive guide for their future research.

Book Large Order Behaviour of Perturbation Theory

Download or read book Large Order Behaviour of Perturbation Theory written by J.C. Le Guillou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is concerned with the determination of the behaviour of perturbation theory at large orders in quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, and its application to the problem of summation of perturbation series. Perturbation series in quantum field theory and in many quantum mechanics models are only asymptotic and thus diverge for all values of the expansion parameter. Their behaviour at large orders provides information about whether they define the theory uniquely (the problem of Borel summability). It suggests methods to extract numerical information from the series when the expansion parameter is not small. The articles reprinted here deal with the explicit evaluation of large-order behaviour in many quantum mechanics and field theory models. The large-order behaviour is related to barrier penetration effects for unphysical values of the expansion parameter, which can be calculated by WKB or instanton methods. The calculation of critical exponents of &fgr;4 field theory is presented as a practical application.

Download or read book Large Countries Development Path Experience and Theory written by Yao Ouyang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-04 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to propose a unique analytical framework to find out the general successful experience for large developing countries, which are defined with two main physical characters of large population and vast land. They are naturally crucial for the global development. Thirteen countries are chosen as large developing countries in this book, which are China, India, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Congo (DRC). On the basis of selecting massive data, the author analyzes the performance of large countries in terms of human resources, natural resources, market size and other factors. The book conducts the comparative study of large countries’ latecomer strength, transformation path and innovation strategy with the perspective of development economics. It presents a comprehensive overview about large developing countries

Book A Course in the Large Sample Theory of Statistical Inference

Download or read book A Course in the Large Sample Theory of Statistical Inference written by W. Jackson Hall and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-12-14 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an accessible but rigorous introduction to asymptotic theory in parametric statistical models. Asymptotic results for estimation and testing are derived using the “moving alternative” formulation due to R. A. Fisher and L. Le Cam. Later chapters include discussions of linear rank statistics and of chi-squared tests for contingency table analysis, including situations where parameters are estimated from the complete ungrouped data. This book is based on lecture notes prepared by the first author, subsequently edited, expanded and updated by the second author. Key features: • Succinct account of the concept of “asymptotic linearity” and its uses • Simplified derivations of the major results, under an assumption of joint asymptotic normality • Inclusion of numerical illustrations, practical examples and advice • Highlighting some unexpected consequences of the theory • Large number of exercises, many with hints to solutions Some facility with linear algebra and with real analysis including ‘epsilon-delta’ arguments is required. Concepts and results from measure theory are explained when used. Familiarity with undergraduate probability and statistics including basic concepts of estimation and hypothesis testing is necessary, and experience with applying these concepts to data analysis would be very helpful.
