Book Rational and Applied Mechanics

Download or read book Rational and Applied Mechanics written by Nikolai Nikolaevich Polyakhov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available for the first time in English, this two-volume course on theoretical and applied mechanics has been honed over decades by leading scientists and teachers, and is a primary teaching resource for engineering and maths students at St. Petersburg University. The course addresses classical branches of theoretical mechanics (Vol. 1), along with a wide range of advanced topics, special problems and applications (Vol. 2). This first volume of the textbook contains the parts “Kinematics” and “Dynamics”. The part “Kinematics” presents in detail the theory of curvilinear coordinates which is actively used in the part “Dynamics”, in particular, in the theory of constrained motion and variational principles in mechanics. For describing the motion of a system of particles, the notion of a Hertz representative point is used, and the notion of a tangent space is applied to investigate the motion of arbitrary mechanical systems. In the final chapters Hamilton-Jacobi theory is applied for the integration of equations of motion, and the elements of special relativity theory are presented. This textbook is aimed at students in mathematics and mechanics and at post-graduates and researchers in analytical mechanics.

Download or read book Classical Mechanics written by Jan Awrejcewicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-12 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the last book of three devoted to Mechanics, and uses the theoretical background presented in Classical Mechanics: Kinematics and Statics and Classical Mechanics: Dynamics. It focuses on exhibiting a unique approach, rooted in the classical mechanics, to study mechanical and electromagnetic processes occurring in Mechatronics. Contrary to the majority of the books devoted to Applied Mechanics, this volume places a particular emphasis on theory, modeling, analysis, and control of gyroscopic devices, including the military applications. This volume provides practicing mechanical/mechatronic engineers and designers, researchers, graduate and postgraduate students with a knowledge of mechanics focused directly on advanced applications.

Book Foundations of Mechanics

Download or read book Foundations of Mechanics written by Stanislaw Bazanski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last three decades the field of mechanics has seen spectacular progress due to the demand for applications in problems of cosmology, thermonuclear fusion, metallurgy, etc. This book provides a broad and thorough overview on the foundations of mechanics. It discusses theoretical mechanics and continuum mechanics, as well as phenomenological thermodynamics, quantum mechanics and relativistic mechanics. Each chapter presents the basic physical facts of interest without going into details and derivations and without using advanced mathematical formalism. The first part constitutes a classical exposition of Lagrange's and Hamilton's analytical mechanics on which most of the continuum theory is based. The section on continuum mechanics focuses mainly on the axiomatic foundations, with many pointers for further research in this area. Special attention is given to modern continuum thermodynamics, both for the foundations and applications. A section on quantum mechanics is also included, since the phenomenological description of various quantum phenomena is becoming of increasing importance. The work will prove indispensable to engineers wishing to keep abreast of recent theoretical advances in their field, as well as initiating and guiding future research.

Book Principles of Engineering Mechanics

Download or read book Principles of Engineering Mechanics written by Millard F. Beatty and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-11-30 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separation of the elements of classical mechanics into kinematics and dynamics is an uncommon tutorial approach, but the author uses it to advantage in this two-volume set. Students gain a mastery of kinematics first – a solid foundation for the later study of the free-body formulation of the dynamics problem. A key objective of these volumes, which present a vector treatment of the principles of mechanics, is to help the student gain confidence in transforming problems into appropriate mathematical language that may be manipulated to give useful physical conclusions or specific numerical results. In the first volume, the elements of vector calculus and the matrix algebra are reviewed in appendices. Unusual mathematical topics, such as singularity functions and some elements of tensor analysis, are introduced within the text. A logical and systematic building of well-known kinematic concepts, theorems, and formulas, illustrated by examples and problems, is presented offering insights into both fundamentals and applications. Problems amplify the material and pave the way for advanced study of topics in mechanical design analysis, advanced kinematics of mechanisms and analytical dynamics, mechanical vibrations and controls, and continuum mechanics of solids and fluids. Volume I of Principles of Engineering Mechanics provides the basis for a stimulating and rewarding one-term course for advanced undergraduate and first-year graduate students specializing in mechanics, engineering science, engineering physics, applied mathematics, materials science, and mechanical, aerospace, and civil engineering. Professionals working in related fields of applied mathematics will find it a practical review and a quick reference for questions involving basic kinematics.

Book Lecture Notes on Theoretical Mechanics

Download or read book Lecture Notes on Theoretical Mechanics written by Jianlin Liu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses a range of basic and essential topics, selected from the author's teaching and research activities, offering a comprehensive guide in three parts: Statics, Kinematics and Kinetics. Chapter 1 briefly discusses the history of classical and modern mechanics, while Chapter 2, presents preliminary knowledge, preparing readers for the subsequent chapters. Chapters 3 to 7 introduce statics, force analysis, simplification of force groups, equilibrium of the general coplanar force group, and the center of the parallel force group. The Kinematics section (Chapters 8 to 10), covers the motion of a particle, basic motion and planar motion of a rigid body. Lastly, the Kinetics section (Chapters 11 to 14) explores Newton’s law of motion, theorem of momentum, theorem of angular momentum, and theorem of kinetic energy. With numerous examples from engineering, illustrations, and step-by-step tutorials, the book is suitable for both classroom use and self-study. After completing the course, students will be able to simplify complex engineering structures and perform force and motion analyses on particles and structures, preparing them for further study and research. The book can be used as a textbook for undergraduate courses on fundamental aspects of theoretical mechanics, such as aerospace, mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, automotive and civil engineering, as well as material science and engineering.
