Book Theoretical Investigation of Ducted Propeller Aerodynamics

Download or read book Theoretical Investigation of Ducted Propeller Aerodynamics written by J. Sinacori and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performances of VTOL aircraft using ducted and free propellers are compared The comparison is based on existing light VTOL aircraft equipped with ducted propellers and on the same aircraft using free propellers computed for this purpose. The free propellers appear to provide better aircraft performance, especially higher flight speed. An appraisal and analysis of VTOL aircraft based on the existing VTOL testbeds forms the second part of this volume. Summaries of design particulars and performance re given in graphical and tabular form. The special purpose vehicles, such as the flying jeeps, aerial platforms and aerodynes, are treated as a separate group. Particular performance data of the various VTOL aircraft are collected in an appendix.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problems of the ducted fan and its application in VTOL aircraft are investigated. General considerations are presented for the design of vertical take-off aircraft. The ideal loading of single rotation propellers in a circular duct is examined. The flow field was derived for a non-uniform sink distribution in a circular disk and for a cylindrical non-uniform vortex sheet. The velocity field and forces on a flat plate due to a cylindrical jet with an elliptical cross-section were also derived. Experimental data are given in tabular and graphic form on the interference effect of a jet on the VTOL aircraft. Design requirements of deflection vanes are discussed with the results of an experimental investigation on a cascade of circular arc sections. (Author).

Book Theoretical Investigation of Static Coefficients Stability Derivatives and Interference for Ducted Propellers

Download or read book Theoretical Investigation of Static Coefficients Stability Derivatives and Interference for Ducted Propellers written by A. R. Kriebel and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The force and moment coefficients at angle of attack and their dynamic pitching derivatives are predicted by potential flow analysis for an isolated ducted propeller. The analysis is based upon Fourier expansion of the vorticity distribution and makes use of the previous theoretical results for ring wings at angle of attack and ducted propellers in axial flow. The present results extend those derived in detail in (AD-403 146) for a short thin cylinder surrounding a uniformly loaded actuator disk. Although the actuator disk assumption is retained, the effects of large duct chord-to-diameter ratio, and the effects of duct camber, taper, and thickness are shown on the duct coefficients and their pitching derivatives. Book Theoretical Study of Ducted Propeller Blade Loading Duct Stall and Interference

Download or read book Theoretical Study of Ducted Propeller Blade Loading Duct Stall and Interference written by M. R. Mendenhall and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical analysis was made to predict the performance of an isolated ducted propeller, with emphasis on real propeller and frictional effects. The various tasks performed are the following. An analysis was developed to predict, for a specified propeller and duct configuration, the performance in axial flow. The quantities predicted include propeller and duct thrust, propeller inflow velocity, and radial distribution of propeller loading and angle of attack. As a special case of this analysis, a method was developed to design a propeller for uniform loading in axial flow for a given duct. Two FORTRAN IV computer programs were developed for these methods and are available from the sponsor. A relatively simple and rapid method for estimating the flow conditions for onset of duct stall was developed. The effects of radial and circumferential variations of blade loading on ducted propeller performance were estimated. Finally, the effects of mutual interference between pairs of ducted propellers were investigated. (Author).

Book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences

Download or read book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences written by Antonio Ferri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-30 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Aeronautical Sciences, Volume 3 deals with topics in the field of aerodynamics. The book covers topics on aerodynamic design, propulsion systems, hypersonic flows laboratories, and gust research. The text is composed of four articles. The first article presents a review of the aspects of aerodynamic design of swept-winged aircraft. The second paper surveys the applications of ducted propellers. Critical reviews of experimental hypersonic facilities are provided in Chapter 3. The last paper focuses on the meteorological and aeronautical aspects of atmospheric turbulence. Aeronautical engineers, pilots, aviators, and students in the field of aerodynamic design will find this book invaluable.
