Book Numerical Investigation of Joint Effect on Shock Wave Propagation in Jointed Rock Masses

Download or read book Numerical Investigation of Joint Effect on Shock Wave Propagation in Jointed Rock Masses written by YY. Jiao and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To investigate the joint effect on shock wave propagation and attenuation in jointed rock masses, a small-scale field explosion test is analyzed numerically by using the three-dimensional discrete element method (3D DEM) and the three-dimensional finite difference method (3D FDM). Results show that rock joints act as a kind of filter through which only low frequency shock waves are allowed to pass. This indicates that high frequency shock waves do no harm to far-field structures when they have to travel across joint sets with specific spacing. Results also reveal that the orientation of the joint sets can remarkably affect the amplitude and frequency composition of shock waves. Furthermore, as a discontinuous numerical method, 3D DEM can capture the main features of shock waves, and most importantly, it can simulate the 3D effect of rock joints. It can be concluded that in modelling 3D shock wave propagation and attenuation in jointed rock masses, 3D DEM has unique advantages over 2D modeling, 3D FDM, and even field testing.

Book The Method of Characteristics for Stress Wave Propagation in the Rock Mass

Download or read book The Method of Characteristics for Stress Wave Propagation in the Rock Mass written by Lifeng Fan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2024-11-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written by subject experts based on the latest research results on the characteristic line method of stress wave propagation in rock masses. It establishes a framework for stress wave propagation analysis methods under three levels of rocks, joints and rock masses. It introduces the two-characteristic line method for stress wave propagation in rocks, and further illustrates the modified characteristic line method for stress wave propagation in complex jointed rock masses. The split three-characteristic line method was proposed for stress wave propagation in rock masses with macro-joints and micro-defects. The book focuses on the basic theory, and highlights the ideas, methods and steps to solve the problem of stress wave propagation in rock masses. This book can be used as a reference book for researchers of research institutes engaged in analyzing, predicting and controlling dynamic stability in rock, geological, and mining engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications is a collection of scientific and technical papers presented at the Third International Conference on Rock Dynamics and Applications (RocDyn-3, Trondheim, Norway, 26-27 June 2018). The papers in the book reflect the recent developments in experiment and theory as well as engineering applications of rock dynamics. Rock dynamics studies the response of rock and rock masses under dynamic loading and during the state transition from static loading to kinetic movement. It also includes the study of engineering countermeasures to dynamic instability of rock and rock masses. The topics in the book include: - Dynamic theories - Numerical simulation - Propagation of stress waves - Dynamic tests of rock - Stability of underground openings under dynamic loading - Rockburst - Seismic monitoring - Dynamic rock support - Blasting - Earthquake-related rock structure damage, etc. Applications, such as rockburst, dynamic rock support, seismic monitoring, blasting and earthquake-related rock structure damage, are paid special attention in Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications. The papers, from specialists both from mining and tunnelling branches, discuss commonly interested dynamic issues. Their experience and knowledge in the application of rock dynamics are extremely valuable for all academics, engineers and professionals who work with rock dynamics.

Book Continuum Damage Mechanics and Numerical Applications

Download or read book Continuum Damage Mechanics and Numerical Applications written by Wohua Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 937 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Continuum Damage Mechanics and Numerical Applications" presents a systematic development of the theory of Continuum Damage Mechanics and its numerical engineering applications using a unified form of the mathematical formulations in anisotropic and isotropic damage models. The theoretical framework is based on the thermodynamic theory of energy and material dissipation and is described by a set of fundamental formulations of constitutive equations of damaged materials, development equations of the damaged state, and evolution equations of micro-structures. According to concepts of damage-dissipation of the material state and effective evolution of material properties, all these advanced equations, which take nonsymmetrized effects of damage aspects into account, are developed and modified from the traditional general failure models so they are more easily applied and verified in a wide range of engineering practices by experimental testing. Dr. Wohua Zhang is a Professor at Engineering Mechanics Research Center in Zhejiang University of China. Dr. Yuanqiang Cai is a Professor at Department of Civil Engineering in Zhejiang University of China.
