Book Theodore Roosevelt His Life and Work Classic Reprint

Download or read book Theodore Roosevelt His Life and Work Classic Reprint written by Frederick E. Drinker and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theodore Roosevelt, His Life and Work He that wrestles with us strengthens our nerves and sharpens our skill; our antagonist is our helper. - Burke. He would not have liked it, perhaps, that one call him a pedagogue, and yet in the passing of the great man Theodore Roosevelt on January 6, 1919, America lost one of her foremost teachers. Sturdy Americanism was his major subject and he taught it with a vigor and enthusiasm which left its mark upon the nation. No brick walls limited the sphere of his influence. The breadth of the land was his class-room and his students were of the millions everywhere who found their lessons in his daily life. For perhaps more than any other public man of his day, Theodore Roosevelt, with the courage of his convictions, practiced what he preached. The fighter is always the teacher, and Theodore Roosevelt was primarily a fighter. It would have been his choice to have faced death on the battlefields, doing his part in leading and inspiring his fellow-citizenship in the charge against autocracy. Denied that opportunity, there remained for him a field of service no less important in the counsels of the nation, to determine its course through tangled paths, and with tongue and pen he laid about him with a force and vision that left their impress. He sent his sons to battle for the cause and became a leader in the civilian forces which provided the sinews of war. No leader had loftier ideals than Theodore Roosevelt and he aimed to achieve them by red-blooded appeals to the heart of his fellow-men to "fear God and take their own part." In another age he might have been called a "militant Christian." Through his life the same forceful, picturesque conduct marked his path. Coming generations will look back over the long list of Presidents of the United States and Theodore Roosevelt will be named as among the great. Download or read book American Boys Life of Theodore Roosevelt Classic Reprint written by Edward Statemeyer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-02 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from American Boys Life of Theodore Roosevelt The life of Theodore Roosevelt is one well worth studying by any American boy who wishes to make something of himself and mount high on the ladder of success. The twenty-sixth President of our country is a fine type of the true American of to-day, full of vim and vigor, quick to comprehend, and equally quick to act, not afraid to defend his opinions against all comers when satisfied that he is in the right, independent, and yet not lacking in fine social qualities, physically and morally courageous, and with a faith in himself and his God that is bound to make for good so long as he clings to it. Theodore Roosevelt comes from countless generations of fighting stock, both in this country and abroad. And yet as a youth the future hero of San Juan Hill was a delicate lad, and many fears were entertained that he might not live to manhood. But life in the open air, with judicious athletic exercise, accomplished wonders, and he became strong and hardy to an astonishing degree. Book The Life and Meaning of Theodore Roosevelt Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Life and Meaning of Theodore Roosevelt Classic Reprint written by Eugene Thwing and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life and Meaning of Theodore Roosevelt It would be next to impossible for any one man alone to write a complete life of Theodore Roosevelt. There will be many lives of Roosevelt, as there are many of Lincoln, and among them will be, in course of time, an "authorized" life, by one of Mr. Roosevelt's close friends, to whom he turned over much personal material shortly before his death. But even this "authorized" life cannot tell the whole remarkable story. It is hoped and expected that other personal friends will write lives of Roosevelt such as only they could write. Senator Lodge, for example, and William Loeb, would bring to the work a wealth of personal reminiscences and an intimacy of narrative and interpretation quite different from that available to other biographers. On the other hand, any life written by an intimate personal friend or co-worker will necessarily contain much of personal viewpoint and feeling. It will present the observations, the impressions, the understandings and estimates gained in close contact during circumstances which reveal something less than the whole man. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Roosevelt Book: Selections From the Writings of Theodore Roosevelt Half a dozen books have grown out Of this side Of his life, and they are full of instances which show his capacity for learning things from the men who really knew them. His gen erous praise and enthusiasm for the expert plainsman, the wily trapper, the fearless cow boy, the tireless hunter, are expressed in every chapter. He learned things by intelligent ap preciation of others and not by jealous rivalry. That is one of his most attractive traits. It is playing the game fair that appeals to him first, and then hitting the line hard. Even opponents and rivals like that kind of a man. Cow-punchers, foot-ball heroes, and po litical bosses have yielded admiration to it. And no boy can read what he has written and not feel the charm Of it. Book An Autobiography Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Autobiography Classic Reprint written by Theodore Roosevelt and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the 26th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, gives us his own unique insight into his life and career. This great man was far more than just a politician however, he was a renowned hunter, conservationist and soldier and wrote extensively about both these interests and politics. Elected with one of the largest ever shares of the popular vote he remains a respected and popular figure in American history. This is not an objective view of Roosevelt's life by any means. He gives his own view on events and his own opinion permeates the text. Nothing less could be expected from such a charismatic and powerful personality. He covers his life just as far as the end of his presidency, focusing on his political career, although in two appendices he attacks the presidents following him, Taft and Wilson. It is a dense and wordy account of his life and career, but well worth the read for any student of American history or politics. Download or read book Impressions of Theodore Roosevelt Classic Reprint written by Lawrence F. Abbott and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Impressions of Theodore Roosevelt This book makes no pretense of being a biography of Theodore Roosevelt. Nor will the reader find in it a chronological narrative of the events of his career. Those who wish to know these chronological facts are referred to his own Autobiography; to the forthcoming "Life and Letters" by Mr. Joseph Bucklin Bishop, who was named by Mr. Roosevelt as its authorized editor; to the introduction, notes, and appendices which I furnished for his volume of "African and European Address"; and to the article on Theodore Roosevelt which I contributed to The Eleventh Edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. The purpose of the present volume is to record some personal impressions which this great American made upon me in the course of an acquaintanceship of twenty-two years, during the latter half of which our relations were those of intimate association and friendship. It is with the hope of supplying some useful details for the final portrait which will be painted by the historians of the future that this simple, informal, and free-hand sketch is undertaken.
