Now Phillips takes an uncompromising view of the current age of global overreach, fundamentalist religion, diminishing resources, and ballooning debt under the GOP majority. With an eye to the past and a searing vision of the future, Phillips confirms what too many Americans are still unwilling to admit about the depth of our misgovernment.

Book Multiculturalism and the Politics of Guilt

Download or read book Multiculturalism and the Politics of Guilt written by Paul Edward Gottfried and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2004-01-02 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiculturalism and the Politics of Guilt extends Paul Gottfried’s examination of Western managerial government’s growth in the last third of the twentieth century. Linking multiculturalism to a distinctive political and religious context, the book argues that welfare-state democracy, unlike bourgeois liberalism, has rejected the once conventional distinction between government and civil society. Gottfried argues that the West’s relentless celebrations of diversity have resulted in the downgrading of the once dominant Western culture. The moral rationale of government has become the consciousness-raising of a presumed majority population. While welfare states continue to provide entitlements and fulfill the other material programs of older welfare regimes, they have ceased to make qualitative leaps in the direction of social democracy. For the new political elite, nationalization and income redistributions have become less significant than controlling the speech and thought of democratic citizens. An escalating hostility toward the bourgeois Christian past, explicit or at least implicit in the policies undertaken by the West and urged by the media, is characteristic of what Gottfried labels an emerging “therapeutic” state. For Gottfried, acceptance of an intrusive political correctness has transformed the religious consciousness of Western, particularly Protestant, society. The casting of “true” Christianity as a religion of sensitivity only toward victims has created a precondition for extensive social engineering. Gottfried examines late-twentieth-century liberal Christianity as the promoter of the politics of guilt. Metaphysical guilt has been transformed into self-abasement in relation to the “suffering just” identified with racial, cultural, and lifestyle minorities. Unlike earlier proponents of religious liberalism, the therapeutic statists oppose anything, including empirical knowledge, that impedes the expression of social and cultural guilt in an effort to raise the self-esteem of designated victims. Equally troubling to Gottfried is the growth of an American empire that is influencing European values and fashions. Europeans have begun, he says, to embrace the multicultural movement that originated with American liberal Protestantism’s emphasis on diversity as essential for democracy. He sees Europeans bringing authoritarian zeal to enforcing ideas and behavior imported from the United States. Multiculturalism and the Politics of Guilt extends the arguments of the author’s earlier After Liberalism. Whether one challenges or supports Gottfried’s conclusions, all will profit from a careful reading of this latest diagnosis of the American condition.

Book excerpt: The achievement of a magnum opus is quite rare. In this instance it consists of the combination of four books with the common thread of an amazing model that spans macroeconomics, microeconomics, ethical economics, and economic justice. That is the journey traversed in this book. All along the way the potential and power of the individual is honored; and this is how the greatness of human beings is channeled into the process of an ever-advancing civilization. There is no reason to restrict the voluntary nature of social cooperation because humans are intelligent and spiritual and have--after thousands of years of learning--acquired certitude about the symmetrical benefits from reciprocity and harmony. The theory in this book has rich ancient roots yet its newness is not just a fresh perspective, and that is because what lies at the heart is a new economic model with the transformative power of a new technology. The model and the technology seamlessly connect macroeconomics, microeconomics, ethical economics, and economic justice. There is nothing else out there that accomplishes such a remarkable feat. No doubt there are many who object to the words in the title of this book. If your mind conjures up anything other than freedom and the glorious pursuit of knowledge then it is time for you to reboot. This ground-breaking and foundation-laying work will satisfy and develop your deductive logic and strengthen your resolve to take action and to appreciate human action. It will galvanize your entrepreneurial spirit which, in turn, will make the world a better place. And in this book you will find a highly readable narrative that both a general audience and an audience that is keen on economics and ethics and justice will enjoy.

Book Blueprint for Theocracy

Download or read book Blueprint for Theocracy written by James C. Sanford and published by Metacomet Books. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This investigation sheds new light on the confrontational stance the religious right has taken toward contemporary America by examining the nature and origins of its highly charged ideas. It traces its belief system, commonly called the "Christian Worldview," to four Christian thinkers (Abraham Kuyper, Cornelius Van Til, Rousas John Rushdoony, and Francis Schaeffer) known for their anti-modernist, authoritarian, and in some cases, openly theocratic ideas. Although virtually unknown to most Americans, these men have been treated like patron saints by the religious right. Their ideas, seriously discussed within the movement and codified in Christian Worldview documents during the 1980s, have been widely disseminated to followers through textbooks and seminars, evolving over time into standard talking points. The book then examines how the ideology buttresses the movement's controversial, right-wing agenda. It explores how the Christian Worldview advances a concept of "total truth" that is unique to biblical Christians and enables them to redefine freedom, law, government, and even history and science, in their own infallible terms. A vision for the future and plan of action are formed on the basis of these certainties. The book concludes by discussing the danger the ideology poses to pluralist society and offers intelligent ways of confronting it.

Book The Biblion of the Theocracy

Download or read book The Biblion of the Theocracy written by Tony Saunders and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Abrahamic religions have had an impact on the world beyond anything the man Abraham could have ever imagined. True indeed, over 3 billion people claim allegiance to one of the movements that sprang from his devotion. The four main Abrahamic religions each seek to demonstrate their faith through the interpreting of the scriptures and strictures of their particular communion, failing to realise that each movement was a historical progression from its predecessor. The line of continuum taken in the current addition is one that traces the progression of Abrahamism from Moses to Mohammed, recognising all contributories along the way as valid. The ultimate aim in all this is to reach a place where discussion can be made and bridges built between the four major Hebrew faiths.

Book excerpt: A crisis is coming for everyone who uses math and science. For decades now, the classical model of probability (the indifference principle and the Gaussian distribution) has been breaking down and revealing its limitations in fields from economics to epidemiology. Now a new approach has revealed the underlying non-classical principle behind all these 'anomalous' laws: — Pareto’s law of elite incomes — Zipf’s law of word frequencies — Lotka’s law of scientific publications — Kleiber’s law of metabolic rates — the Clausewitz-Dupuy law of combat friction — Moore’s law of computing costs — the Wright-Henderson cost law — Weibull’s law of electronics failures — the Flynn Effect in IQ scores — Benford’s law of digit frequencies — Farr’s law of epidemics — Hubbell’s neutral theory of biodiversity — Rogers’ law of innovation classes — Wilson’s law of island biogeography — Smeed’s law of traffic fatalities The general law behind all these particular laws (and countless others) is the "decline effect". As a system ages or grows in size, the rules of probability subtly change. Entropy increases, rare items become rarer, and average performance measures decline. The human meaning of a decline may be positive (decreasing costs, falling epidemic mortality) or negative (lower customer loyalty, decreasing efficiency), but the mathematical pattern is always the same. The implications are enormous, as these examples show: All epidemic diseases decline in infectiousness and in lethality. HIV-AIDS went from a highly infectious, 95-percent fatal disease, to a survivable condition with a latency of decades. COVID-19 went from a death rate of 7 percent in early 2020, to under 2 percent in 2022. Hereditary dynasties around the world declined smoothly in lifespan, from hundreds of years to tens of years. When democracies replaced monarchies, the decline (in spans of party control) continued.
