Book Planet Earth Is Blue

Book excerpt: "Tender and illuminating. A beautiful debut." --Rebecca Stead, Newbery Medal-winning author of When You Reach Me A heartrending and hopeful story about a nonverbal girl and her passion for space exploration, for fans of See You in the Cosmos, Mockingbird, and The Thing About Jellyfish. Twelve-year-old Nova is eagerly awaiting the launch of the space shuttle Challenger--it's the first time a teacher is going into space, and kids across America will watch the event on live TV in their classrooms. Nova and her big sister, Bridget, share a love of astronomy and the space program. They planned to watch the launch together. But Bridget has disappeared, and Nova is in a new foster home. While foster families and teachers dismiss Nova as severely autistic and nonverbal, Bridget understands how intelligent and special Nova is, and all that she can't express. As the liftoff draws closer, Nova's new foster family and teachers begin to see her potential, and for the first time, she is making friends without Bridget. But every day, she's counting down to the launch, and to the moment when she'll see Bridget again. Because as Bridget said, "No matter what, I'll be there. I promise."

Book The Conscious Planet

    Book Details:
  • Author : Neil M. Pine
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation

  • ISBN : 1479793590
  • Pages : 561 pages

Download or read book The Conscious Planet written by Neil M. Pine and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-16 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writing of this book was both a spiritual and intellectual journey. It took more than ten years to complete while having to be revised and updated constantly. This is no-holds-barred literature where the author says what he means and means what he says! He does not mintz his words. The Conscious Planet thinks outside the box and breaks all the rules of traditional thinking. Sometimes this information can be brutally honest or painfully real. This author is not trying to win any popularity contest. He tells it like it really is and doesnt care what anyone thinks! The Conscious Planet is what the government and big corporations who control it dont want you to know! It is the truth about the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me ! In the modern world, people only know what multinational corporations want them to know, not what they should know! And it is this tainted knowledge which is creating a society of pathetic drones, who like poor doomed sheep, are too busy just trying to survive to see that the wool is being pulled over their eyes while being led to slaughter! Because these corporate imperatives are being paid for at the expense of the future of mankind! Before you patronize any product, be conscious about what its doing to your health, to the earth, and how it will affect future generations. Skeptics have warned the author that this book will receive nominal success, that it represents a small niche market, and not everyone would be interested in such literature. And in retort to this assertion, it should be acknowledged that yes, it is sadly true that not everyone would be interested in this book because the information herein may not pertain directly to their life or general well being. So in understanding, who would be interested in this book, lets narrow it down by eliminating the types of individual who would not directly benefit: x 1. People who are immortal: Yes, these people might not care about this book: heck, if you were immortal, you might eat Twinkies and cheese-burgers all day long. 2. People who have another planet to live on: This is true: why would they care if the world goes to hell in a hand basket? See Ya! Well, lucky them: however, for the other seven billion people who inhabit the planet earth who are not immortal, and who dont have another planet to live on then this book is absolutely the most important book they may ever read! Book Louis and Bebe Barron s Forbidden Planet

Download or read book Louis and Bebe Barron s Forbidden Planet written by James Wierzbicki and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2005-06-30 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forbidden Planet is a product of the MGM studio, which at the time of the production of this film was hardly in the business of making science-fiction films. Originally planned as a "B" picture, the 1956 Forbidden Planet was praised for its spectacular special effects and brilliant color cinematography. The plot practically tingles with sexual innuendo and the dialogue is rich in references to Freudian psychology. However, in spite of all this, the film was marketed to a juvenile audience. Notwithstanding its uncommon look and "feel," perhaps the most unusual aspect of the film is the way it sounds. Never before had a major Hollywood effort utilized a score generated entirely by electronic means, yet seldom does one find commentary on how Louis and Bebe Barron's score again and again challenges Hollywood norms. In addition to placing the composers and film in historical context, James Wierzbicki's study offers a deep and thorough analysis of not only the music as used in the film, but also of the decontextualized music as presented by the Barrons on the 1977 "original soundtrack album." The text is generously illustrated with transcriptions and graphs, and can serve as a model for the examination of other extended works of electronic music for which no written score has ever existed.

Book Mathematical Models and Methods for Planet Earth

Download or read book Mathematical Models and Methods for Planet Earth written by Alessandra Celletti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2013 several scientific activities have been devoted to mathematical researches for the study of planet Earth. The current volume presents a selection of the highly topical issues presented at the workshop “Mathematical Models and Methods for Planet Earth”, held in Roma (Italy), in May 2013. The fields of interest span from impacts of dangerous asteroids to the safeguard from space debris, from climatic changes to monitoring geological events, from the study of tumor growth to sociological problems. In all these fields the mathematical studies play a relevant role as a tool for the analysis of specific topics and as an ingredient of multidisciplinary problems. To investigate these problems we will see many different mathematical tools at work: just to mention some, stochastic processes, PDE, normal forms, chaos theory.

Book Management for a Small Planet

Download or read book Management for a Small Planet written by Jean Garner Stead and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this classic text was first published in 1992, it provided a unique focus for the burgeoning concern for sustainability and sustainable organizational practices. The book's impact continues to be felt today as large multinational corporations such as Wal-Mart and GE are making substantial commitments to the "triple bottom line" of economic success, social responsibility, and environmental protection, and sustainability has become a part of curricula in business schools around the globe. Featuring extensive new material throughout, this new edition of Management for a Small Planet is now widely available outside of North America for the first time. The book maintains the same unique vision and approach that made the original so influential. Unlike other texts on the topic, it employs a strategic, general management perspective within theoretical frameworks on how organizations can be instrumental in moving humankind toward a more sustainable world. Part I includes chapters dedicated to each dimension of sustainability: biophysical, economic, and social. Part II contains the specifics on the formulation and implementation of sustainable management practices, all grounded in the principles of organizational behavior, leadership, and business strategy. The book is an ideal text for any course concerned with environmental management and sustainable management practices.

Book excerpt: We live on a dynamic Earth shaped by both natural processes and the impacts of humans on their environment. It is in our collective interest to observe and understand our planet, and to predict future behavior to the extent possible, in order to effectively manage resources, successfully respond to threats from natural and human-induced environmental change, and capitalize on the opportunities â€" social, economic, security, and more â€" that such knowledge can bring. By continuously monitoring and exploring Earth, developing a deep understanding of its evolving behavior, and characterizing the processes that shape and reshape the environment in which we live, we not only advance knowledge and basic discovery about our planet, but we further develop the foundation upon which benefits to society are built. Thriving on Our Changing Planet presents prioritized science, applications, and observations, along with related strategic and programmatic guidance, to support the U.S. civil space Earth observation program over the coming decade.

Each case study considers how a specific country is affected by the particular issue as well as the measures the country is taking to find solutions that will provide for a more sustainable future.
