Download or read book Matriarch written by Anne Edwards and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-12-08 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life of Princess May of Teck is one of the great Cinderella stories in history. From a family of impoverished nobility, she was chosen by Queen Victoria as the bride for her eldest grandson, the scandalous Duke of Clarence, heir to the throne, who died mysteriously before their marriage. Despite this setback, she became queen, mother of two kings, grandmother of the current queen, and a lasting symbol of the majesty of the British throne. Her pivotal role in the abdication of her eldest son, the Duke of Windsor, is just one of the events that provide the backdrop for both thrilling biography and for narrating the splendors and tragedies of the entire house of Windsor.

Download or read book A History of Advertising Volume 4 Part 1 written by Graham Thomas and published by SAGUS. This book was released on 2024-06-24 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marketing Week called Allen Brady & Marsh ‘one of the UK’s greatest and most famous advertising agencies.’ This was no exaggeration. It was an agency that ploughed its own furrow, and produced advertising that still remains remembered and famous today. It was also an agency that others in the industry feared or even disliked. Not just muttering their distaste behind closed doors but publicly. At the root of this was the co-founders flamboyance, and that the agency was a believer in the power of jingles - even when they became deeply unfashionable. None the less, there is much to learn from the ABM story. And much to be amused by - to the extent that there are two volumes devoted to it.

Download or read book Canada s Department of External Affairs Volume 1 written by John Hilliker and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After an introductory chapter dealing with the conduct of external relations before 1909, the book examines three distinct phases of the department's development. Although the department had modest beginnings under the first under-secretary, Sir Joseph Pope (1909-1925), it was seen by his successor, O.D. Skelton, as an important instrument for the assertion of Canadian autonomy. Skelton presided over the establishment of the first Canadian diplomatic missions abroad, and was responsible for the creation of a foreign service to staff them. With the outbreak of the war in 1939, both the responsibilities and the size of the department underwent substantial organizational change under Norman Robertson, who became under-secretary after Skelton's death in 1941. Taken together, the criteria for recruitment introduced by Skelton and the reorganization which took place under Robertson gave the department many of the features which have characterized it as a branch of the Canadian government. The further development of the institution will be examined in a second volume covering the years 1946-1968. Since the prime minister was secretary of state for External Affairs during much of the period covered by volume I, the book contributes to an understanding of the operation of the Canadian government as a whole as well as of a single department. It also examines the policy making process and therefore will be of interest to students of international relations as well as of public administration.
