Book Making up People

Download or read book Making up People written by Judith Bessant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about modern politics and young people. Judith Bessant revises some long-standing myths about children and young people's politics. She highlights the huge gap between the many ways young people and politics are talked about and how they have long been politically active. Bessant draws on a relational historical sociology to show how since the nineteenth century certain historical dynamics, political interests and social imaginaries have enabled social scientists, writers, political leaders and policymakers to imagine and 'make up' different kinds of young people. Given these representations of childhood, adolescence and youth, everyone knows that young people are cognitively immature, inexperienced, morally under-developed and lack good judgement. For these reasons they cannot possibly be allowed to engage in the serious, grown-up business of politics. Yet in just one of the many contradictions, young people are criticised by many of their elders for being politically apathetic and disengaged from politics. Many think recent global warming movements largely led by quite young people are a novel phenomenon. Yet young people have been at the forefront of political movements of all kinds since the French Revolution. Since the 1960s, children and young people increasingly played a major, if sometimes obscured, role in civil rights, anti-war, anti-globalisation, anti-austerity and global-warming movements. This accessible book is rich in theoretical and historical insight that is sure to appeal to sociologists, historians, youth studies scholars and political scientists, as well as to the general reader.

Book excerpt: We imagine a world where every student-athlete is mentally healthy, soulfully inspired, joyfully engaged, and physically performing at their highest potential on and off the field. We know for a fact that coaches and parents have the power to lead their kids to these types of uncommon results, they just don't know how.The sad truth is that youth anxiety, stress, burnout, comparison, injuries, perfectionism, and identity disturbance are at all-time highs. Our shortsightedness as leaders is killing the confidence and long-term success of our youth. In the book, The Youth Truth, Andrew starts by sharing the shocking and scary realities facing our student-athletes today. He then dives deep into solutions- Love-Powered Leadership and Mindset Performance Coaching. When these two things are prioritized and implemented by coaches and parents who are both humble and hungry to ignite change, the result is a NEW TRUTH for our youth. Together, we can change the youth sports industry. Together, we can change generations. Together, we can change families, team cultures, and we can create champions both on and off the field. The Youth Truth will equip coaches and parents with the tools they need to gain more influence, develop stronger connections with the youth, and the ability to motivate and inspire our student-athletes more profoundly than ever before.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equips parents to guide their young children through all major doctrines in an understandable, chapter-a-day format. Sure, it's easy to teach your children the essentials of Christian theology when you're a theology professor. But what about the rest of us? With Big Truths for Young Hearts, Bruce Ware, (you guessed it!) a theology professor, encourages and enables parents of children 6-14 years of age to teach through the whole of systematic theology at a level their children can understand. Parents can teach their children the great truths of the faith and shape their worldviews early, based on these truths. The book covers ten topics of systematic theology, devoting several brief chapters to each subject, making it possible for parents to read one chapter per day with their children. With this non-intimidating format, parents will be emboldened to be their children's primary faith trainers-and perhaps learn a few things themselves along the way.

Book Win The Youth Sports Game

Download or read book Win The Youth Sports Game written by John Yeigh and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-01-11 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Ensure That Your Children Are Given The Opportunity to Succeed at Sports Win The Youth Sports Game objectively narrates how ordinary kids can progress, survive, and thrive within today's $20 billion, youth-sports industrial complex. The sixteen-year developmental trek from toddler to collegiate athlete is chronicled while juxtaposing the real-life challenges that athletes in all sports must endure and overcome. Win The Youth Sports Game is the first title ever to provide an honest reality-check for parents—a What to Expect When You are Expecting for youth sports. Fifty incredibly common, adult-imposed obstacles are exposed so that parents can help their athletes navigate and overcome these challenges along their own sports journeys. Fifty million parents may be hopeful their young athletes are on track to play college sports and win a scholarship, but only about 2 percent of elite high school athletes receive even a partial sports scholarship. Share this book's table of contents with any sports parent, and they'll immediately identify with some of the seemingly outrageous storylines. The unfortunate outcome is that more than 75 percent of kids quit sports by age fourteen, with over-zealous adults being a big contributor. The author will donate half of any profits to Project Play's youth-sports advocacy programs.
