Download or read book The Youngest Patriot written by Gene Ligotti and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2000-03-15 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year is 1776. A memorable year in American history. A year every American points to with pride, but what was it like to live during that year? Indeed during all the years of the British occupation of Long Island and New York. More to the point of this story, what was it like for a young thirteen year old farm boy to grow up on Long Island during that seven year occupation? The Youngest Patriot is the story of just such a young boy. It is the story of Elijah Churchill who meets Lieutenant Benjamin Tallmadge of the Continental Army who is on his way to Brooklyn Heights to join with his 2nd Connecticut Light Dragoons. Elijah pleads with Tallmadge to take him with him so that he can join the army and fight for his country. Tallmadge tells him he is too young. Elijahs father forbids him to even try to enlist. Defying them both he runs away from home and goes to Brooklyn Heights where Washingtons army is building fortifications against the impending British invasion. Through a series of events, Elijah does indeed become a soldier and his life intertwines with that of Benjamin Tallmadge. The tale of these seven years as Elijah becomes a man, has as its backdrop the exciting American revolution; our fight for liberty and independence. The account shows the beginnings of the Secret Service and the Central Intelligence Agency. Tallmadge and Elijah become very much a part of the Culper spy ring set up by General Washington. A secret message would run full circle, if you will, from Oyster Bay to New York City by courier, by horseback out to Setauket, and by whaleboat across the Long Island Sound to Connecticut. The saga of Nathan Hale is told as seen through the eyes of those who knew him and it was the Culper spy ring that first uncovered the plot which exposed and brought disgrace to Benedict Arnold. The narrative tells of George Washingtons frustration as he keeps hope for freedom alive as he repeatedly evades contact with the British until his initial victories at Trenton and Princeton. This is the story of the most important American war as seen through the eyes of a young boy from Setauket as he grows to manhood. His fears, anxieties, troubles, memories, and battles for the young republic culminate with Elijah receiving the Purple Heart designed and awarded by General Washington.

Download or read book Prince Leopold written by Charlotte Zeepvat and published by Sutton Publishing, Limited. This book was released on 1998 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany (1853-84), is acknowledged to have been the most intelligent and probably the most interesting of Queen Victoria's four sons. He was the youngest and a strong-willed attractive character, with an immense thirst for life. He was also, however, the first haemophilia sufferer in the royal family and endured continual ill health; as if haemophilia was not enough, he was also epileptic. In this biography, Charlotte Zeepvat has drawn on sources to reveal a compelling human story which also touches on the wider worlds of late 19th-century Oxford and of literature, art and politics in the Victorian period. In particular, it examines the question of haemophilia and the royal family. There are many questions to answer, such as when did the Queen and Prince Albert realize their youngest son was ill and how much did they understand of his illness? Some of Leopold's early attacks were described as "rheumatism" - was this an attempt to keep the truth concealed or a genuine misunderstanding? The book also presents a full and balanced picture of Leopold's relationship with his mother. Letters already published provide snapshots of individual quarrels between mother and son but no one has yet considered the relationship as a whole. Finally it eamines Leopold's life at Oxford, the varied and interesting friendships he developed there (with, among others, Charles Dodgson - "Lewis Carroll" - John Ruskin and Oscar Wilde), his political views and the importance of his work as unofficial secretary to the Queen.

The youngest son of Daniel Boone, Nathan was a frontiersman, explorer, and hero in his own right, discovering uncharted rivers and blazing new trials. Of all the adventures within this book, perhaps the greatest is the author's quest to unearth the mysteries and relive the legend of this unsung yet vital American figure. The end result is a book that is not only an intriguing exploration of early America, but an important journey of self-discovery and accomplishment. Book jacket.

Download or read book Analysts in the Trenches written by Bruce Sklarew and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-17 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The horrific events of 9/11 and its sequelae have reinforced what thoughtful analysts have long known: that they have a responsibilty to respond to the complex social and emotional issues arising in their communities - to function, that is, as "community psychoanalysts." Analysts in the Trenches vividly illustrates what socially engaged analysts can offer to violent and disturbed communities. Contributors bring analytic expertise to bear on the emotional sequelae to violence, including sexual and physical abuse; to multiple and traumatic losses; and to learning inhibitions. Thay also explore and devise community responses to the scapegoating of classes and groups, to homelessness, and to variations in family structures. This volume provides heartening testimony to the relevance of psychodynamic thinking in the post-9/11 world and will spur professional readers to develop their own programs of community involvement.
