Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Bullet for a Ranger, the latest novel in the Texas Ranger Jim Blawcyzk series, Jim is locked in a jail cell in the town of Quitaque, accused of murdering a saloon woman while in a drunken rage. Even though the idea of the happily married, loyal family man, non-drinking and church-going Blawcyzk being involved with a saloon entertainer, then killing her, is extremely far-fetched, the evidence against the Ranger Lieutenant is so strong even he has to admit he stands a good chance of being convicted. Worse, Jim has no recollection of the night or the events in question. His only sure ally is the priest from the local Catholic mission, and even the good padre has his doubts about Blawcyzk's innocence. Hoped-for help from one of his fellow Rangers has failed to materialize, and the date for Blawcyzk's trial is fast approaching. Somehow, Jim must figure out who is really the woman's killer, or face a quick hanging. Solving the mystery from his cell is proving to be an almost insurmountable task.

Book The Collected Short Stories of Louis L Amour Volume 5

Download or read book The Collected Short Stories of Louis L Amour Volume 5 written by Louis L'Amour and published by Bantam. This book was released on 2007-10-30 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stories of Louis L’Amour are built around the dramatic moments when men and women cast their fears, doubts, and pasts behind them and plunge into the unknown—into split-second decisions with life-and-death consequences. Nowhere is that more evident than in this quintessential collection of stories set on the American frontier. Here L’Amour takes us across a bold, beautifully rendered landscape where old scores haunt new lives, the wrong choice leaves unwitting victims, and strangers may come to trust—or kill—one another. Fugitives, visionaries, fortune seekers, drifters, and young women trying to build homes on a lawless frontier, the characters in these pulse-pounding stories are vintage L’Amour. Together in this vivid, rollicking collection, they bring to life the spirit of adventure and confirm Louis L’Amour’s place in the pantheon of American writers.

Book excerpt: From Our Ranch to Your Table: Hey ya'll! I'm Paige Murray. A lot has changed since the release of Southern Fried Skinnyfied several years ago. I'm now married to Ty Murray, the King of Cowboys. I also became a step-mom to Kase and a mom to Oakley. My recipes have become more family oriented and are perfect for an ongoing healthy lifestyle you can maintain. This isn't a cookbook for a short-term diet. Instead I cook the way nature intended with fresh produce, whole grains, healthy fats and meats. I'm from Lancaster, South Carolina but now call the TY Ranch in Stephenville, Texas home. I brought my cowboy boots and my love of food, cooking, fitness and nutrition with me. I took my favorite southern foods and added my own touch keeping health in mind, what I call Southern Fried Skinnyfied. I also learned to cook flavorful New Mexican and cowboy dishes that remind Ty of home. I'm not a chef and prefer stress-free recipes, you know the kind you find in your Granny's church cookbooks. These recipes are simple, wholesome and scrumptious. It's your everyday cookbook! Eating healthfully should go hand in hand with eating pleasurably. Of course I had to include just a couple of my favorite childhood dessert recipes too for those special occasions.I've also included some recipes that we love from our family and friends. To me, a passed-down recipe goes far beyond a meal. It evokes memories of that person and feelings of love, comfort, joy and excitement. Recipes are a way to preserve our heritage as well as a part of ourselves and the gatherings in the kitchen that make us who we are. I share photos of each person who shared a recipe with me. I also include photos we've taken of the ranch to give you a feel of what it's like to live on a real, working ranch. Hopefully these photos and recipes will allow you to create meals that are a meaningful experience.

Book excerpt: The Young Runaway is a western adventure story by Zane Grey. Excerpt: "Andrew strode into the hotel, somehow glad that she had had the grace to blush. Caught with the goods, he thought scornfully! She had picked up this country bumpkin on the road and had ended a short or long, probably long, ride by driving his car, no doubt to allow him freer use of his arms. It made Andrew slightly sick, because that queer streak of chivalry in him had almost won a battle in her behalf. He wished she would appear in the dining room before he left. He wanted just one more look at her."
