Book Over the River and Through the Wood

Download or read book Over the River and Through the Wood written by Karen L. Kilcup and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2013-12-15 with total page 1094 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rediscover nineteenth-century American children’s poetry with period illustrations. Outstanding Academic Title, Choice Over the River and Through the Wood is the first and only collection of its kind, offering readers an unequaled view of the quality and diversity of nineteenth-century American children's poetry. Most American poets wrote for children—from famous names such as Ralph Waldo Emerson to less familiar figures like Christina Moody, an African American author who published her first book at sixteen. In its excellence, relevance, and abundance, much of this work rivals or surpasses poetry written for adults, yet it has languished—inaccessible and unread—in old periodicals, gift books, and primers. This groundbreaking anthology remedies that loss, presenting material that is both critical to the tradition of American poetry and also a delight to read. Complemented by period illustrations, this definitive collection includes work by poets from all geographical regions, as well as rarely seen poems by immigrant and ethnic writers and by children themselves. Karen L. Kilcup and Angela Sorby have combed the archives to present an extensive selection of rediscoveries along with traditional favorites. By turns playful, contemplative, humorous, and subversive, these poems appeal to modern sensibilities while giving scholars a revised picture of the nineteenth-century literary landscape.

Book Corona Radiata

Download or read book Corona Radiata written by Jean Harris Anderson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2024-09-04 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE KING’S CROWN OR A CROWN OF CYBERNETICS CORONAVIRUS and CORONA RADIATA are two medical terms. The corona pandemic was an attempt to influence the corona radiata. A character from this book explains: “There is something far more important than the affects left by the psychological tampering during the coronavirus pandemic. It is the intentional, cruel altering of the human neuroanatomy. The corona radiata is the encircling garland-shaped crown of nerve-bundles, which controls the highest functions of the human brain. It is self, our personal identity, and intellectual functioning; this involves the individual’s ability to make conscious decisions, to recall, and to have emotional, perceptual, behavioral expressions and motor skills.” The genetically modified virus continues to be deceptively used as a conveyance to destroy the foundation of civilization by overseeing the alteration of human behavior using the psychology of fear and panic. But reprehensible dictators always look for a more permanent solution than brain-washing. What if the division of cognitive neuroscience was exploited by a tyrannical techno-scientist, one who had authority to modernize the old lobotomy in essentially a noninvasive way, reinventing it for the reason of conforming humanity’s behavior? This is why neuroscience is of interest to the engineers of artificial intelligence. As there are already neural implants in use, neuroethicists caution us that while hacking microchips is criminal, violating a person is villainous. It is a time of dark medicine, of conjuring up potions, profiting from pestilence, and seeking prophets. CORONA RADIATA GARLAND OF GRIEF A Novel By JEAN HARRIS ANDERSON The Journals of Davin Alastair, embedded in the genre of science-fiction, have expanded into a parallel world of fables, fantasy, symbolism, and even courtly love is represented – necessarily, as we approach a dreadful time in the storyline when the captives are persecuted by the warlords. It’s less severe to reflect upon such similar sufferings in the illustrations of Aesop and lessons from the folktales of Brothers Grimm. Of The First And Last King series, this is fifth of our hero’s journals. It appears his planet is falling rapidly out of its natural orbit, spinning dizzily, and it may even collide with our very own globe. How might we prepare if this story is not a mythical account, but one predestined as a convergent encounter?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My e-book under the title ‘India, Defeat Corona’, is a fictional novel. It is aimed at kindling hope and confidence among my readers. We have to draw inspiration from the popular adage that ‘every crisis is an opportunity.’ We all have to learn to live with the virus. Simple methods like ‘social distancing, frequent washing of hands using soap and wearing of masks’ can help us in keeping the virus at bay, to a large extent. Our scientists all over the world are burning their midnight oil in finding a suitable vaccine to contain this pandemic, which seems a possibility by the end of this year. We can’t halt the progress of our economy, just for the fear of one tiny virus. It’s a question of ‘lives Vs livelihood’. Stoppage of economic activities can be more disastrous than the pandemic itself! Thanks to our ‘corona warriors,’ who are working hard to contain the pandemic. Let’s salute our farmers, workers, technocrats, bankmen, businessmen and others, who are daring to go ahead, ignoring the threats of the disease. In fact, what can help us in defeating Covid-19, is our ‘Positive Mental Attitude.’ I am sure that we will win this war of ‘pandemic Vs people.’

Book Black Corona

  • Author : Steven Gregory
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2011-03-28
  • ISBN : 1400839319
  • Pages : 295 pages

Download or read book Black Corona written by Steven Gregory and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-28 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Black Corona, Steven Gregory examines political culture and activism in an African-American neighborhood in New York City. Using historical and ethnographic research, he challenges the view that black urban communities are "socially disorganized." Gregory demonstrates instead how working-class and middle-class African Americans construct and negotiate complex and deeply historical political identities and institutions through struggles over the built environment and neighborhood quality of life. With its emphasis on the lived experiences of African Americans, Black Corona provides a fresh and innovative contribution to the study of the dynamic interplay of race, class, and space in contemporary urban communities. It questions the accuracy of the widely used trope of the dysfunctional "black ghetto," which, the author asserts, has often been deployed to depoliticize issues of racial and economic inequality in the United States. By contrast, Gregory argues that the urban experience of African Americans is more diverse than is generally acknowledged and that it is only by attending to the history and politics of black identity and community life that we can come to appreciate this complexity. This is the first modern ethnography to focus on black working-class and middle-class life and politics. Unlike books that enumerate the ways in which black communities have been rendered powerless by urban political processes and by changing urban economies, Black Corona demonstrates the range of ways in which African Americans continue to organize and struggle for social justice and community empowerment. Although it discusses the experiences of one community, its implications resonate far more widely. Some images inside the book are unavailable due to digital copyright restrictions.
