Book The X Ray 1917 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The X Ray 1917 Classic Reprint written by Medical College Of Virginia and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-20 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The X-Ray, 1917 Possessing a vision almost prophetic, with advice, encouragement and assistance, he guided many a medical career through college, through hospital and special training, to the fruition of a large and useful practice. His time, his labor, his resourcefulness and his influence was ever at the disposal of those who wished them. There was never a man more loyal, nor a heart more responsive, and he did not count the cost of doing, nor ask a price for sacrifice. Coming to Richmond in 1876, he began his brilliant professional career by accepting a minor position at the Medical College of Virginia. It was not long before he became the leading spirit of the College, and over smooth waters and through the stormy seas he guided its course. In 1913 the amalgamation with the University College of Medicine was effected largely through his efforts. It is a thing of pride for the students and alumni to feel that the present Medical College of Virginia stands as a memorial of the devo tion to medical education of the South's two greatest. Medical leaders, hunter holmes mcguire, founder of the University College of Medi cine, and george ben johnston, sponsor for the Medical College of Virginia. It is, therefore, most appropriate and altogether fitting that the College Annual for 1917 should be dedicated to Dr. George Ben Johnston, who departed this life On December 20th, 1916. In doing him honor we honor ourselves and we pay tribute where tribute is due, for while he was amongst us he went about doing good. Two. Sessions of six months each were conducted to furnish the men who, with practically no drugs except those captured from the enemy, and with even less hospital equipment, were to minister to the wounds and ill nesses of the ragged boys in grey, and to the hordes of their prisoners. After the war, the, college fought with the rest of the South through the horrors of readjustment, and by the faithfulness of Faculty and Alumni kept-up its march of progress. The University College of Medicine was founded in 1892. Under the policy of the college for more liberal and extensive medical educatio-n, 'the school grew rapidly. It had no State appropriation, and the funds necessary for its maintenance were largely met by the liberality of the Faculty. Book excerpt: Excerpt from X-Ray and High Frequency in Medicine In this book the reader will find my individual opinion, it contains my personality, as far as possible I have tried to give credit where credit is clue, I have drawn freely from the literature of the age, and am under many obliga tions to the archives of the Roentgen Ray for its excellent translations of foreign papers. It appears the American physician will not support a journal upon this special sub jcet, and the many valuable papers by American opera tors have appeared in many obscure medical journals, and have been lost to the great majority of physicians. Some of the matter present'ed has been published in the Wisconsin Medical Recorder, and has been revised and brought up to date. I have purposely left out some well-known processes, involving the use of the Fluoro scope in diagnosis, as the Orthodiagraph and kindred methods, owing to its danger to both operator and patient.
