Book excerpt: The Legacy of The X-Files examines the content and production of the show, its reception, its use of legend and folklore, its contemporary resonance in politics and society of the 21st century, and its impact and legacy on film, television, the Internet and beyond. Having converged with the early widespread use of the Internet, The X-Files became a cultural touchstone of the 1990s, transforming from a cult TV show into a pop cultural phenomenon by the end of the decade. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of The X-Files, this collection examines the content and production of the show, its reception, its use of legend and folklore, its contemporary resonance in politics and society of the 21st century, and its impact and legacy on film, television, the Internet and beyond. The series' themes of government mistrust, conspiracy, folklore, UFOlogy, and faith are dissected and applied to how the show spirituality resonated with post-Cold War Western society. Contributors to this collection discuss the wide-ranging impact of the television show in popular culture, from Mulder and Scully 'shippers' to the show's slogan entering the contemporary lexicon. The Legacy of The X-Files serves as an all-encompassing, multi-disciplinary, contemporary account of The X-Files, reflecting upon critical, historical, political, and social contexts, and featuring an in-depth and comprehensive introduction making it a vital work for researchers and students alike.

Download or read book THE JFK FILES written by Peter Kross and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2019-02-12 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 2017, 2,800 files about the 1963 murder were made public for the first time, bringing to the fore revelations that an alleged Cuban intelligence officer met Lee Harvey Oswald in Mexico City, and praised his shooting ability, and that the Soviet spy agency KGB believed then-Vice President Lyndon Johnson may have conspired to assassinate Kennedy. On April 26, 2018, the U.S. Government released 19,000 newly declassified government documents on the Kennedy assassination. It is said that investigators learned little, except that the government’s ideas about what needs to be secret, and what doesn’t, are cryptic and unpredictable. Some stuff in the documents that had been open for years is now classified again, and some stuff that had been classified and is now open is so innocuous that nobody can figure out what the point was. In some cases, the documents had re-redacted material that had already been declassified in previous versions. Often that seemed to reflect Trump administration sensitivities to the feelings of foreign governments. A 1975 CIA report on the surveillance of shooter Lee Harvey Oswald during his visit to the Soviet embassy in Mexico City just a few weeks before Kennedy’s death was released years ago identifying a particular photo as coming from “a Mexican police surveillance camera.” In the same document, re-released April 26, the words “Mexican police” had been covered over. Why are these documents even more redacted than previously known versions of the same document? What astonishing information was released by the documents, if any? Why aren’t all of the documents released in their entirety without any information redacted? Are the intelligence agencies afraid they will look incompetent and unable to protect the President? Or do they further confirm that Vice President Lyndon Johnson was involved in the assassination as earlier documents suggested?

Book excerpt: Mark Lane tried the only U.S. court case in which the jurors concluded that the CIA plotted the murder of President Kennedy, but there was always a missing piece: How did the CIA control cops and secret service agents on the ground in Dealey Plaza? How did federal authorities prevent the House Select Committee on Assassinations from discovering the truth about the complicity of the CIA? Now, New York Times best-selling author Mark Lane tells all in this explosive new book—with exclusive new interviews, sworn testimony, and meticulous new research (including interviews with Oliver Stone, Dallas Police deputy sheriffs, Robert K. Tanenbaum, and Abraham Bolden) Lane finds out first hand exactly what went on the day JFK was assassinated. Lane includes sworn statements given to the Warren Commission by a police officer who confronted a man who he thought was the assassin. The officer testified that he drew his gun and pointed it at the suspect who showed Secret Service ID. Yet, the Secret Service later reported that there were no Secret Service agents on foot in Dealey Plaza. The Last Word proves that the CIA, operating through a secret small group, prepared all credentials for Secret Service agents in Dallas for the two days that Kennedy was going to be there—conclusive evidence of the CIA’s involvement in the assassination.

Book In the Eye of History

Download or read book In the Eye of History written by William Matson Law and published by JFK Lancer Productions & Pub. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several years ago, William Matson Law set out on a personal quest to reachan understanding of the circumstances underpinning the assassination of JohnF. Kennedy. His investigation began with a key component of the events ofNovember 22, 1963, and the days that followed: the autopsy on the president's body at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. Hecontacted those who were involved at Bethesda in various aspects of theaftermath of the assassination; In the Eye of History: Disclosures in theJFK Assassination Medical Evidence comprises "conversations" with eightindividuals who agreed to talk. For the first time, these eyewitnessesrelate their stories comprehensively in their own words. Law allows them totell it as they remember it without attempting to fit any pro- oranti-conspiracy agenda. The reader is the judge of these eyewitness accountsand their implications.Dennis David describes observing the arrival at Bethesda Naval Hospital ofthe navy ambulance carrying Jackie Kennedy with the official casketpurportedly carrying the president's body-some time after he had supervisedthe unloading of a shipping casket that he'd been told contained the body ofthe president. A few days after the assassination, David describes seeing asecret movie film of the Kennedy autopsy that showed an entry wound in theforehead, inconsistent with the official scenario of a loan gunman shootingfrom behind. Autopsy technician Paul O'Connor helped remove the president'sbody-he recalls that it was in a body bag-from a shipping casket; thiscontrasts with the placement of the president's body in an ornate casket inDallas, after wrapping only in sheets and towels. O'Connor's associate,James Jenkins, emerged from the autopsy convinced that the president hadbeen shot from two directions. X-ray technician Jerrol Custer recalledseeing Mrs. Kennedy enter the Naval Hospital, having just arrived with herhusband's body-yet Custer was on his way to the darkroom to develop X-rayplates already taken of the president's corpse. Ex-FBI Special Agents JamesSibert and Frances O'Neill pour scorn on the single-bullet theory-thesine-qua non of the Warren Report-yet are reluctant to conclude that morethan one sniper was involved. Harold Rydberg describes how he illustratedthe president's wounds solely from verbal descriptions and providesfirst-hand impressions of the personalities of the autopsy doctors. SaundraSpencer compares and contrasts the extant photographs from the Kennedyautopsy with those that she developed; the differences are startling. Andthere is discussion of new information on the 1966 death of William Pitzerin whose possession Dennis David claims to have seen the secret movie of theKennedy autopsy. In his foreword, Dr. David W. Mantik states: "For anyone who wants afirst-hand look at that long-ago night, this is as close as we can now get."

Book Honest Answers about the Murder of President John F Kennedy

Download or read book Honest Answers about the Murder of President John F Kennedy written by Vincent Michael Palamara and published by TrineDay. This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thousands of books and articles have been written about the murder of JFK, many of which are large in volume and short on facts. Quite often, these works try to reinvent the wheel, attempting to cover every single area of the assassination, as well as many tangential and unessential points, as well. The reader is often left exhausted and confused. The sheer volume of pages, conflicting facts, and theories leaves one unsatisfied and, quite frankly, not sure exactly what did happen on 11/22/63. This book seeks to separate the wheat from the chaff. It is 55-plus years later: it is time for real, honest answers in an easy-to-read and understand format. Proof of a conspiracy; no theories; to-the-point; a perspective on the assassination for the millennial age and beyond. Based on years—decades—of primary source research and having read countless books on the subject.

Book Politics in the Gutters

Download or read book Politics in the Gutters written by Christina M. Knopf and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2021-06-28 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the moment Captain America punched Hitler in the jaw, comic books have always been political, and whether it is Marvel’s chairman Ike Perlmutter making a campaign contribution to Donald Trump in 2016 or Marvel’s character Howard the Duck running for president during America’s bicentennial in 1976, the politics of comics have overlapped with the politics of campaigns and governance. Pop culture opens avenues for people to declare their participation in a collective project and helps them to shape their understandings of civic responsibility, leadership, communal history, and present concerns. Politics in the Gutters: American Politicians and Elections in Comic Book Media opens with an examination of campaign comic books used by the likes of Herbert Hoover and Harry S. Truman, follows the rise of political counterculture comix of the 1960s, and continues on to the graphic novel version of the 9/11 Report and the cottage industry of Sarah Palin comics. It ends with a consideration of comparisons to Donald Trump as a supervillain and a look at comics connections to the pandemic and protests that marked the 2020 election year. More than just escapist entertainment, comics offer a popular yet complicated vision of the American political tableau. Politics in the Gutters considers the political myths, moments, and mimeses, in comic books—from nonfiction to science fiction, superhero to supernatural, serious to satirical, golden age to present day—to consider how they represent, re-present, underpin, and/or undermine ideas and ideals about American electoral politics.

Book A Farewell to Justice

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joan Mellen
  • Publisher : Skyhorse
  • Release : 2013-09-01
  • ISBN : 1628734663
  • Pages : 508 pages

Download or read book A Farewell to Justice written by Joan Mellen and published by Skyhorse. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working with thousands of previously unreleased documents and drawing on more than one thousand interviews, with many witnesses speaking out for the first time, Joan Mellen revisits the investigation of New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison, the only public official to have indicted, in 1969, a suspect in President John F. Kennedy’s murder. Garrison began by exposing the contradictions in the Warren Report, which concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald was an unstable pro-Castro Marxist who acted alone in killing Kennedy. A Farewell to Justice reveals that Oswald, no Marxist, was in fact working with both the FBI and the CIA, as well as with US Customs, and that the attempts to sabotage Garrison’s investigation reached the highest levels of the US government. Garrison’s suspects included CIA-sponsored soldiers of fortune enlisted in assassination attempts against Fidel Castro, an anti-Castro Cuban asset, and a young runner for the conspirators, interviewed here for the first time by the author. Building upon Garrison’s effort, Mellen uncovers decisive new evidence and clearly establishes the intelligence agencies’ roles in both a president’s assassination and its cover-up. In this revised edition, to be published in time for the fiftieth anniversary of the president’s assassination, the author reveals new sources and recently uncovered documents confirming in greater detail just how involved the CIA was in the events of November 22, 1963. More than one hundred new pages add critical evidence and information into one of the most significant events in human history.
