Jesus alone can unlock the meaning of its symbols, visions and descriptions...Christ reveals its meaning. He unlocks its seals. But how does He do it?" "Most of Revelation—about two thirds of its content—is devoted to the seventh seal. The contents of the first six seals are found in chapter 6 alone." "How will the two witnesses and their message be received?" "The book of Revelation reveals, from more than one perspective, the emergence of this vast end-time empire governed from a great city God labels “Babylon the great”, the reference here being to Rome." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. While most Christians today value worship and regard it as a vital part of the church's life and witness, there is also a wistful yearning that contemporary worship be vastly improved and given a more satisfying rationale. Calling his book a "compact guide to some of the main themes of the worship of God," and believing that the agenda of worship "needs a serious overhaul in our churches," well-known theologian Ralph P. Martin here reexamines the concept of worship, "recasting . . . its meaning in such a way as will express its essentially theological dimension and yet will relate its practice to the concerns, interests, and needs of men and women in our world." To that end, then, Martin discusses several elements of worship: praise, prayer, hymns, the offering, the creeds and confessions, the sermon, baptism, the Lord's Supper, and the role of the Holy Spirit. The main thrust of Martin's discussion it to consider, in the light of Scripture and history, the theological rationale for the practice of each element. A final chapter summarizes the author's definition of worship and diagrams a "service of worship" that involves all the aspects of worship he has discussed. Both theologically adequate and pastorally helpful, the book is designed for ministers and theological students, as well as lay leaders in the churches.

Book The Scroll of the Gospel of David

Download or read book The Scroll of the Gospel of David written by Tony Robinson and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-06 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In John 5:39 and 46, Yeshua (Jesus) emphatically stated that the Torah was written about Him! Furthermore, in Luke 24:27 and 44-47, He stated that the following truths were prophesied in the Torah, the Prophets and the Psalms: He would suffer, die, be buried in the grave, resurrected, and finally, repentance and remission of sins would be preached in His name among the nations. With Yeshua's statements in mind, would you be able to find one such prophecy? Unfortunately, most who believe that Yeshua is the Messiah are hard pressed to point to any such prophecies. Even so, The Scroll of the Gospel of David will introduce you to an entire world of Messianic prophecy in the Old Testament and will help you understand how the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua in three days is the most prophesied event in the Old Testament! Tony Robinson is a writer, teacher, worship leader and songwriter who has been involved in Messianic ministry for the past seven years. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in chemistry and from Kansas State University with a M.S. in analytical chemistry. He is director of Restoration of Torah Ministries, a non-profit organization established to 1) teach the Hebraic roots of the faith, 2) lead Messianic worship and 3) write Messianic songs that celebrate the Torah. Furthermore, he is author of the web page, Restoration of Torah. The web page contains many articles and a complete set of Torah lessons. He currently attends Beth Abara Hebraic Assembly in Cleveland, TN, and lives in Ringgold, GA, with his wife, Tina, and four children, Sean, Evan, A.J. and Erica. Book An Apocalypse for the Church and for the World

Download or read book An Apocalypse for the Church and for the World written by Ronald Herms and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2006 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph examines the problem of universally inclusive language in the book of Revelation and the resulting narrative tension created by narrowly exclusive language. Analysis is conducted by placing relevant texts within their literary-narrative context and through consideration of how the author understood and appropriated biblical traditions. A key feature of this study is its examination of four early Jewish documents with significant similarities to the problem being examined in Revelation. From these documents (Tobit; Similitudes of Enoch [1 Enoch 37-71]; 4 Ezra; and, Animal Apocalypse [1 Enoch 85-90]) a contextual picture emerges which allows a fuller understanding of Revelation's distinctive approach toward the problem of the fate of the nations. This study contends that the interpretive strategies applied to biblical traditions in Revelation have their roots in the wider early Jewish milieu. From this comparative analysis, identifiable patterns with regard to the role of 'universal terminology' in the communicative strategy of John's Apocalypse emerge.

Book Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls

Download or read book Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls written by John Bergsma and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major new work on the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest sacred documents of Judaism, which reveals their surprising connections to early Christianity. “A luminous treatment of a fascinating subject! Highly recommended!”—Scott Hahn, author of The Fourth Cup From award-winning scholar John Bergsma comes an intriguing book that reveals new insights on the Essenes, a radical Jewish community predating Christianity, whose existence, beliefs, and practices are often overlooked in the annuls of history. Bergsma reveals how this Jewish sect directly influenced the beliefs, sacraments, and practices of early Christianity and offers new information on how Christians lived their lives, worshipped, and eventually went on to influence the Roman Empire and Western civilization. Looking to Hebrew scripture and Jewish tradition, Bergsma helps to further explain how a simple Jewish peasant could go on to inspire a religion and a philosophy that still resonates 2,000 years later. In this enriching and exciting exploration, Bergsma demonstrates how the Dead Sea Scrolls—the world's greatest modern archaeological discovery—can shed light on the Church as a sacred society that offered hope, redemption, and salvation to its member. Ultimately, these mysterious writings are a time machine that can transport us back to the ancient world, deepen our appreciation of Scripture, and strengthen our understanding of the Christian faith. “An accessible introduction . . . This is a handy entry point for readers unfamiliar with Essenes or those interested in the Dead Sea Scrolls.”—Publishers Weekly

Book Essential Torah

  • Publisher : Schocken

  • Pages : 621 pages

Download or read book Essential Torah written by George Robinson and published by Schocken. This book was released on 2006-10-31 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you are studying the Bible for the first time or you're simply curious about its history and contents, you will find everything you need in this "accessible, well-written handbook to Jewish belief as set forth in the Torah" (The Jerusalem Post). George Robinson, author of the acclaimed Essential Judaism, begins by recounting the various theories of the origins of the Torah and goes on to explain its importance as the core element in Jewish belief and practice. He discusses the basics of Jewish theology and Jewish history as they are derived from the Torah, and he outlines how the Dead Sea Scrolls and other archaeological discoveries have enhanced our understanding of the Bible. He introduces us to the vast literature of biblical commentary, chronicles the evolution of the Torah’s place in the synagogue service, offers an illuminating discussion of women and the Bible, and provides a study guide as a companion for individual or group Bible study. In the book’s centerpiece, Robinson summarizes all fifty-four portions that make up the Torah and gives us a brilliant distillation of two thousand years of biblical commentaries—from the rabbis of the Mishnah and the Talmud to medieval commentators such as Rashi, Maimonides, and ibn Ezra to contemporary scholars such as Nahum Sarna, Nechama Leibowitz, Robert Alter, and Everett Fox. This extraordinary volume—which includes a listing of the Torah reading cycles, a Bible time line, glossaries of terms and biblical commentators, and a bibliography—will stand as the essential sourcebook on the Torah for years to come.
