  • Publisher : Weiser Books

  • Pages : 274 pages

Download or read book The Bahir written by Aryeh Kaplan and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2001-01-15 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bahir is one of the oldest and most influential of all classical Kabbalah texts. Until the publication of the Zohar, the Bahir was the most widely quoted primary source of Kabbalistic teachings. The Bahir is quoted in every major book on Kabbalah, the earliest being the Raavad's commentary on Sefer Yetzirah, and it is cited numerous times by Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman (Ramban) in his commentary on the Torah. It is also quoted many times in the Zohar. It was first published around 1176 by the Provence school of Kabbalists; the first printed edition appeared in Amsterdam in 1651. The name Bahir is derived from the first verse quoted in the text (Job 37:21), "And now they do not see light, it is brilliant (Bahir) in the skies." It is also called the "Midrash of Rabbi Nehuniah ben HaKana," particularly by the Ramban. The reason might be that Rabbi Nehuniah's name is at the very beginning of the book, but most Kabbalists actually attribute the Bahir to him and his school. Some consider it the oldest kabbalistic text ever written. Although the Bahir is a fairly small book, some 12,000 words in all, it was very highly esteemed among those who probed its mysteries. Rabbi Judah Chayit, a prominent fifteenth-century Kabbalist, writes, "Make this book a crown for your head." Much of the text is very difficult to understand, and Rabbi Moshe Cordevero (1522-1570), head of the Safed school of Kabbalah, says, "The words of this text are bright (Bahir) and sparkling, but their brilliance can blind the eye." One of the most important concepts revealed in the Bahir is that of the Ten Sefirot, and careful analysis of these discussions yields much of what will be found in later kabbalistic works, as well as their relation to anthropomorphism and the reason for the commandments. Also included is a discussion of reincarnation, or Gilgul, an interpretation of the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, the Thirty-two Paths of Wisdom, and the concept of Tzimtzum.

Book The World of Yesod Water

Download or read book The World of Yesod Water written by Marzia Bosoni and published by Babelcube Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-16 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The truth about the disappearance of the Power and the identity of the Enemy is a puzzle for which Avir and his friends find new pieces every day but which they have not yet managed to solve. As, one after another, the predictions of the Zalyan in Silverlight seem to be proved right, the chosen ones face difficulties that could cause the Company of Seekers to fall apart completely. The arrival of a legendary figure – the Errant – could mean a turning point in the mission but also raises new questions about its nature. From the unexplored marshes and wilderness of the kingdom of Earth to the unfathomably deep waters of the Great Sweet Lake, the Key of the kingdom of Water requires Mayim to face the hardest test: the truth.

Book The Zohar

  • Author : Daniel Chanan Matt
  • Publisher : Stanford University Press
  • Release : 2004
  • ISBN : 9780804752107
  • Pages : 622 pages

Download or read book The Zohar written by Daniel Chanan Matt and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume of The Zohar: Pritzker Edition completes the Zohar's commentary on the book of Genesis. Here we find spiritual explorations of numerous biblical narratives, including Jacob's wrestling with the angel, Joseph's kidnapping by his brothers, his near seduction by Potiphar's wife, his interpretation of Pharaoh's dreams, and his reunion with his brothers and father. Throughout, the Zohar probes the biblical text and seeks deeper meaning--for example, the divine intention behind Joseph's disappearance, or the profound significance of human sexuality. Divine and human realities intertwine, affecting one another. Toward the end of Genesis, the Bible states: Jacob's days drew near to die--an idiomatic expression that the Zohar insists on reading hyperliterally. Each human being is challenged to live his days virtuously. If he does, those days themselves are woven into a garment of splendor; at death, they "draw near," enveloping him, escorting him to the beyond. Sefer ha-Zohar (The Book of Radiance) has amazed and overwhelmed readers ever since it emerged mysteriously in medieval Spain toward the end of the thirteenth century. Written in a unique Aramaic, this masterpiece of Kabbalah exceeds the dimensions of a normal book; it is virtually a body of literature, comprising over twenty discrete sections. The bulk of the Zohar consists of a running commentary on the Torah, from Genesis through Deuteronomy.

Hillel says "There is no more Mashiach for Israel". Akiva says "No, No, No, It is Bar Kosiba", Chabad says "But is it not Rabbi Sneerson of New York?" Israel's halakah as we see it today was born after the destruction of the first and second temple. It is a faith lived out from the center of the Synagogue not the Temple. Many of her Torah practices were responses to the Temple's destruction. Was it not born in Yavneh under the Sadducee Yochanan Ben Zaccheus? Is not its first book the Mishnah of Judah ha Nasi? They are waiting for Eliyah, the Mashiach and the Temple to be rebuilt. Was not the Bar Enosh given authority in Zion in year 3790? Was he not authorised at the resurrection of his head, Rav Yahushua seed of Eve? Th e Good News of the revival of the dead and the age to come was taken to the twelve tribes of Israel and the seventy nations. The age of righteousness and justice where the Bar Enosh will judge the world begins on the seventh day from Adam's descent from Paradise. (ca 5797). Is it time for the talmidim of Yavneh and the talmidim of Rabbi Yahushua to stop lying about one another and to start walking together in the Spirit? "It is not by might, nor by power but my my Spirit" Says Yahuah. "with the Spirit of his lips shall he slay the wicked" (Is 11) In year 5766 (2006) a great master of the secrets of the Torah the late Rabbi Yitzchak Kaduri left a secret note with the name of Mashiach encoded on it and a prophecy. To the shock of the Jewish world the name he gave for the Mashiach was Yahushua, the same name as the head of the Notzrim, the anointed ones. How will Mashiach fulfill Rav Kaduri's prophecy? This book is about that.

Book Kabbalah of Prayer

Download or read book Kabbalah of Prayer written by Shulamit and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2004 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You are not expected to complete the work, nor are you permitted to abandon it." --Rabbi Tarfon, Pirke Avot In this remarkable, groundbreaking book, Shulamit Elson writes with eloquence and authority about our soul's journey, our place in the universe, and our relationship to God through prayer. In beautiful and simple words, she shares the ancient teachings and the sacred sounds of the Kabbalah in ways capable of reconnecting us with the Eternal and changing our lives forever. We learn of her journey from the closed world of an Orthodox Jewish family, on a voyage of discovery that took her into a secular life of poetry and travel throughout Europe. Then, faced with personal difficulties and waking visions, she began a path of meditation. Gifts of healing and prophecy followed. Eventually she met her Maggid, the traditional Kabbalistic "answering angel," with whose help she developed a series of meditative "Sound Prayers" using sacred sounds made with the voice. Elson explains the theological, cosmological, and esoteric foundations upon which "Sound Prayer" is based. We are introduced to the ancient wisdom of the Kabbalah, the "Tree of Life," and the structure of the soul in its relationship with God. We learn the true nature of prayer, how it relates to Tikkun Olam ("Repair of the World"), and how "Sound Prayer" relates to different angelic levels of being and truth. This is a practical book that gives individual exercises as well as offering help on meeting specific challenges, including spiritual struggles, feelings of meaninglessness, and harsh self-judgment, as well as illness, fear, and anxiety. Contents: The Path of Kabbalah The Curtain of Souls Cultivating the Garden Angels The Names of God The Tree of Life Awakening Sound Prayer The Sacred Sounds of the Sefirot Sound Prayer Instruction The Sound of the Flame plus: Glossary of Terms; Notes; Bibliography

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: -One of very few books on religion and popular music -Covers a wide range of musical styles, from heavy metal and rap to country, jazz and Broadway musicals -The essays are written by academics and informed by their enthusiasm for the music Many books have explored the relationship between religion and film, but few have yet examined the significance of religion to popular music. Call Me The Seeker steps into that gap. Michael Gilmour's introductory essay gives a state-of-the-discipline overview of research in the area. He argues that popular songs frequently draw from and "interpret" themes found in the conceptual and linguistic worlds of the major religions and reveal underlying attitudes in those who compose and consume them. He says these "texts" deserve more serious study. The essays in the book start an on-going conversation in this area, bringing a variety of methodologies to bear on selected artists and topics. Musical styles covered range from heavy metal and rap to country, jazz, and Broadway musicals.
