HYDE, EACH ONE OF US HAS A SPLIT PERSONALITY. THE GOOD SIDE THAT WE SHOW OFF DURING THE DAY, AND THEN THAT DARK SIDE THAT WE TRY TO KEEP HIDDEN IN THE DARKEST CORNER OF OUR CLOSET. I HIDE THESE EPISODES INSIDE THE CLOSET. WE ALL HAVE SKELETONS BURIED IN OUR CLOSET. BUT ME, I HAVE A CEMETERY BURIED IN MINE. HOWEVER, I FEAR SOMEONE WILL UNLOCK MY CLOSET. I SEE IT EVERY NIGHT IN MY NIGHTMARES, NIGHTMARES THAT WAKE ME EVERY NIGHT. LIKE FRANKENSTEIN, I SEE MYSELF FLEEING IN FEAR, RUNNING FASTER AND FASTER, RUSHING DOWN A DARK ROAD DISAPPEARING THROUGH THE SNOW-SWEPT WOODS GROWING DARKER AMIDST A BITTER WINTER, RUNNING FARTHER AND FURTHER AWAY, RUSHING THROUGH THE WIND-SWEPT WILD. IT WANDERS WAYWARD ACROSS UNFOLDING VIRGIN VISTAS AS IT WONDERS TO GOD IN HEAVEN, WHY THE HELL IN THE WORLD ARE THE RABID DOGS IN SUCH RUTHLESS, PITILESS, RELENTLESS PURSUIT? THERE ARE SOME DOGS THAT BARK. HOWEVER, THERE ARE OTHER DOGS THAT BITE. SAVE ME FROM MY SINS BEFORE THEY CATCH UP TO ME. MAN MAKES HIS HELL AND MY MIND IS MINE. SAVE ME FROM THE DEVIL AND FREE MY SOUL FROM THIS LIVING HELL. AS A WALKING DEAD MAN HUNTED DOWN IN THE DEAD MANS LAND, YUPPIE CITY WAS HOOKED ON MALE FUEL. MALE FUEL TURNED YOU INTO A MAN. MALE FUEL TURNED YOU INTO A MACHINE. MALE FUEL TURNED YOU INTO A MONSTER. HOWEVER, WHEN BIO/CIDE WENT UNDER, BIO/CIDE CITY NO LONGER MASS-PRODUCED MALE FUEL. THE ALICE-IN-WONDERLAND WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOM OF MALE FUEL WAS THAT YOU DEVELOPED VIOLENT ZOMBIE-LIKE BEHAVIOR THAT TURNED YOU INTO A HUMAN BEAST THAT BEHAVED LIKE A ZOMBIE. WHAT WAS STILL LEFT AT THE BIO/CIDE CITY WAS HORDED BY HUMANS THAT TOOK REFUGE UNDERGROUND. HOWEVER, FOR THOSE THAT WERE STILL ALIVE, THE UNDERWORLD WAS NOT ANY BETTER THAN THE WORLD THEY LEFT BEHIND. FOLLOWING THE GRAVEYARD WARS, THE WORLD OF HORROTICA WAS RECLAIMED BY THE OUTCASTS AND THE OUTLAWS WHO WEATHERED THE STORM WHILE LIVING UNDERGROUND WHERE THE REMAINING REMNANTS OF THE HUMAN CIVILIZATION RETURNED TO THE MORTAL WORLD WHERE THE OUTCASTS AND THE OUTLAWS TOOK CONTROL OF THE HUMAN WORLD, WHICH BECAME KNOWN AS THE LAWLESS LAND.

Download or read book Horrotica written by David Edward Collier and published by Eloquent Books. This book was released on 2008-07 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do you get when you mix horror with erotica? You get HORROTICA. a series of seven volumes. Scathing with witty sarcasm, Horrotica is an entertaining, educational, avant-garde, dark tragicomedy of manners and mores, a surreal social satire embracing a nihilistic, post-modern social awareness keeping you, the reader, hanging on by a thin moral thread. Layer upon layer like lasagna, this dark graphic novel is narcotic with a razor-sharp erotic edge to it. It is poetic and graphic, but not pornographic. On that note, the generation who grew up reading Goosebumps will now look at Horrotica as Goosebumps for adults. I refer to this niche carved out in the marketplace as GENERATION XXX, which I see as "The Misunderstood Generation" of our time. Horrotica helps a mature audience understand how the younger generation sees your world through their eyes, a misunderstood generation of guinea pigs desensitized to sex and violence. Sexually explicit - not for children.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Pop culture is a very broad realm and approaching the subject of entrepreneurship within this area could be overwhelming. I really appreciate the way author Neil A. Cohen approached this subject. By choosing just one pop culture phenom to analyze, as he did with The Walking Dead, he provides a really well-crafted narrative that can be applied to any Fantrepreneurial tract.” —Lance Fensterman, President of ReedPOP Global, world’s largest pop culture event company “Fandom is a complex subject to cover, and like anything complicated in life, there are nuances. I love that you are writing about fantrepreneurs. I am fascinated by it. I can’t wait to read it and I am proud to be a small part of it.”—Jay Bonansinga, Author, The Walking Dead Woodbury series For anyone who ever wanted to be more than just a fan, Business Is Dead offers easy-to-follow pathways for first-time entrepreneurs looking to start a fan-focused venture. Here you will find funny, inspirational stories of turning passion into action and creating a new form of start-up—the FANtrepreneur. Neil A. Cohen blends his insight, advice, and humor from thirty years’ experience as an M.B.A. specializing in corporate growth, with his own personal experiences as an entrepreneur, learning the intricacies of the fandom-driven marketplace. At the book’s core is the author’s experience of launching his first entrepreneurial venture. Sparked by his fandom of The Walking Dead, he formed an LLC to promote and sell his own zombie trilogy. Along the way, he has met with other authors, artists, philanthropists, and business owners who were driven by their fandom—each forging their own economic path and turning their passion into action.

Book Feeling Sick The Early Years of AIDS in Spain

Download or read book Feeling Sick The Early Years of AIDS in Spain written by Dean Allbritton and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-15 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The earliest traceable accounts of the AIDS outbreak in Spain began to emerge during its political transition to democracy, with small clusters of cases appearing as early as 1981. HIV/AIDS would go on to shape Spain throughout its pivotal period as a fledgling democracy, underpinning the cultural explosions of the Movida, a sharp rise in intravenous drug use, and the struggles of a coalescing LGBT+ community. Feeling Sick: The Early Years of HIV/AIDS in Spain examines the cultural history of these early years of HIV/AIDS in Spain as it has been told through television and print media, ephemeral products of visual culture, fiction film, and the so-called risk groups that lived through the epidemic. The book draws on the work of Raymond Williams to characterize this emergent period within a structure of “feeling sick” and thus defined by discordant voices, disagreement, and meaning-making in a period of history in formation. Through close readings of Spanish visual culture and media alongside analysis of historical and medical documents, it asserts that a structure of feeling sick begins to coalesce around the emergence of HIV/AIDS and traces out a distinctive sense of living through history as it unfolds. By critically evaluating a selection of cultural materials, this book claims that the earliest years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Spain reveal common fears about global connectivity, the proliferation of vulnerable ties to others, and the potential of cultural and physical contaminations. Ultimately, Feeling Sick challenges the dominant narratives in which life and disease are seen as separate and unequal, and in which illness is only destructive and devastating. An Open Access edition of this book is available on the Liverpool University Press website and the OAPEN library as part of the Opening the Future project with COPIM.

Book German Popular Cinema and the Rialto Krimi Phenomenon

Download or read book German Popular Cinema and the Rialto Krimi Phenomenon written by Nicholas G. Schlegel and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-01-28 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: German Popular Cinema and the Rialto Krimi Phenomenon: Dark Eyes of London examines the Kriminalfilme—or Krimis—based on the novels of English author Edgar Wallace, released by Rialto Film between 1959 and 1972 as part of the post-World War II era of German popular cinema that enjoyed extraordinary popularity with the German public. Nicholas G. Schlegel analyzes how this group of West German thrillers not only nurtured a convalescing film industry, but also provided unequaled national entertainment while canonizing Rialto’s Krimi productions in terms of their historical genesis, aesthetic characteristics, and social reception. Schlegel surveys the Krimi’s enduring legacy, calculable global influence, inevitable decline, and eventual migration to television in the 1970s, where it thrived but ultimately took on a more somber tone. Scholars of film, television, history, and German culture will find this book particularly useful.

John Landis, Director of The Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London and Michael Jackson's Thriller "Excellent overview of the subject, and a comprehensive collection of significant scholarship in the field of cult film. Very impressive and long overdue." Steven Rawle, York St John University, UK Whether defined by horror, kung-fu, sci-fi, sexploitation, kitsch musical or ‘weird world cinema’, cult movies and their global followings are emerging as a distinct subject of film and media theory, dedicated to dissecting the world’s unruliest images. This book is the world’s first reader on cult film. It brings together key works in the field on the structure, form, status, and reception of cult cinema traditions. Including work from key established scholars in the field such as Umberto Eco, Janet Staiger, Jeffrey Sconce, Henry Jenkins, and Barry Keith Grant, as well as new perspectives on the gradually developing canon of cult cinema, the book not only presents an overview of ways in which cult cinema can be approached, it also re-assesses the methods used to study the cult text and its audiences. With editors’ introductions to the volume and to each section, the book is divided into four clear thematic areas of study – The Conceptions of Cult; Cult Case Studies; National and International Cults; and Cult Consumption – to provide an accessible overview of the topic. It also contains an extensive bibliography for further related readings. Written in a lively and accessible style, The Cult Film Reader dissects some of biggest trends, icons, auteurs and periods of global cult film production. Films discussed include Casablanca, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Eraserhead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Showgirls and Ginger Snaps. Book excerpt: The special 5th Anniversary Edition of SLIMED! An Entertainment Weekly “Best Tell-All” Book One of Parade Magazine's “Best Books About Movies/TV” Included in Publishers Weekly's “Top Ten Social Science Books” Before the recent reboots, reunions, and renaissance of classic Nickelodeon nostalgia swept through the popular imagination, there was SLIMED!, the book that started it all. With hundreds of exclusive interviews and have-to-read-‘em-to-believe-‘em stories you won't find anywhere else, SLIMED! is the first-ever full chronicle of classic Nick…told by those who made it all happen! Nickelodeon nostalgia has become a cottage industry unto itself: countless podcasts, blogs, documentaries, social media communities, conventions, and beyond. But a little less than a decade ago, the best a dyed-in-the-wool Nick Kid could hope for when it came to coverage of the so-called Golden Age (1983–1995) of the Nickelodeon network was the infrequent listicle, op-ed, or even rarer interview with an actual old-school Nick denizen. Pop culture historian Mathew Klickstein changed all of that when he forged ahead to track down and interview more than 250 classic Nick VIP’s to at long last piece together the full wacky story of how Nickelodeon became “the Only Network for You!” Celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Nickelodeon with this special edition of SLIMED! that includes a new introduction by Nick Arcade’s Phil Moore in addition to a foreword by Double Dare’s Marc Summers and an afterword by none other than Artie, the Strongest Man in the World himself (aka Toby Huss). After you get SLIMED!, you’ll never look at Nickelodeon the same way again. “Mathew Klickstein might be the geek guru of the 21st century.”—Mark Mothersbaugh
