Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development and the study of both ionic and electronically conducting polymers have been. in the past few years. areas of· increasing interest. These new materials are. in fact. being considered for many technological applications. namely low weight. high energy density batteries and sensors. This volume contains the proceedings of a workshop on this subject. sponsored by the U.S. Army Research. Development and Standardization Group (U.K.). which took place in Sintra - Portugal from July 27 to July 31. 1986. The workshop. which included lectures. communications and discussion panels. was very sucessfull and the combination of ionic with electronically conducting polymers and their applications. not usually together in workshops or conferences. proved to be an excellent idea. Lisbon December. 1986 Luis Alcacer ix THE ELECTROCHEMISTRY OF ELECTRONICALLY CONDUCTING POLYMERS J. O'M. Bockris and David Miller Department of Chemistry Texas A&M University College Station, Texas 77843 USA ABSTRACT. The new field of the electrochemistry of electronically conducting polymers is reviewed. A brief historical account traces the beginning of organic electrodes to Ka11mann and Pope, who, in 1960, observed charge injection and conductance in anthracene electrodes.

Book Intrinsically Conducting Polymers An Emerging Technology

Download or read book Intrinsically Conducting Polymers An Emerging Technology written by M. Aldissi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the majority of the papers presented at the NATO Ad vanced Research Workshop (ARW) held in Burlington, Vermont, USA on October 12-15, 1992. This ARW was the first of its kind to address the subject of intrinsically conducting polymers with an emphasis on processing and technological applications. The NATO ARW format was followed in that the subjects addressed here were limited in number but discussed in detail with the attendance being limited to a small number of selected scientists. The ARW brought together lecturers who are leaders in their respective fields from a wide range of NATO and non-NATO countries (a total of 11 countries) with the support of the NATO Scientific Affairs Division and some support from Champlain Cable Corporation. The total number of par ticipants was 33 and the number of presentations was 24. The speakers were chosen based on the topics selected for this workshop and repre sented industry, universities and government laboratories. The field of conducting polymers has grown rapidly during the past few years with important developments in materials processing and fabrica tion that brought about active research programs focusing on the use of these polymers as "smart" materials in technological applications and devices in academic and industrial research laboratories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those who recognize that our modern life style is dependent, to a large extent, on the use of organic polymers as thermal and elec trical insulators, may be surprised to learn that specific plastics may also be used as conductors of electricity. In addition to demon strating the versatility of polymers, this use as conductors will lead to developments which were not possible with other available materials of construction. This is a new field which is growing rapidly because of intensive research and developmental efforts by many different industrial, governmental and university investigators. Many of these researchers reported advances in this art at a symposium on conductive polymers sponsored by the American Chemical Society's Division of Organic Coatings and Plastics Chemistry held at the Second Chemical Congress of the North American Continent at Las Vegas, in August 1980. The proceedings of this timely symposium are presented in this book. The editor wishes to take this opportunity to express his grati tude to the authors who contributed to this book and to the ACS Organic Coatings and Plastics Division for sponsoring this effort. Book Conducting Polymers and Polymer Electrolytes

Download or read book Conducting Polymers and Polymer Electrolytes written by Judith F. Rubinson and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of conductive polymers is a rapidly growing area in polymer chemistry. Since conductive polymers carry a charge, they are used in a wide variety of applications. This book examines a subset within the area of conductive polymers: the electrochemistry that occurs at the interface between conductive polymers and solutions. Topics include synthesis and characterization as well as applications in artificial muscles, electrocatalysis, sensor design, and corrosion prevention.
