CXLVTL THE LIFE OF THE PRIMITIVE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Introduction: dally life of the believers (Act* The cure of the lame Effect upon the Peter's explanation of the miracle (, M.) The believers all kept together and shared all things with one another; and they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all according as each man had need. Daily with one accord they resorted to the temple and broke bread in their own homes. They ate their food with gladness and single-heartedness, praising God, and were well regarded by all the people. The Lord also added daily to their number those who were being saved. Now Peter and John were going up to the temple for the hour of prayer at three in the afternoon, when a certain man who had been lame from birth was carried past, whom they used to lay daily at what is called the Beautiful Gate of the temple to ask alms from those who entered the temple. When he saw that Peter and John were about to enter the temple, he asked them for alms. But Peter looked at him intently, as did John also, and said to him, Look at us. And when he gave heed to them, expecting to receive something from them, Peter said, I have neither silver nor gold but what I have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk! Then seizing him by the right hand he raised him up. Instantly his feet and ankles became strong and he leaped upright and walked about, and went with them into the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking about and praising God. And when they recognized that this was the man who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, they were filled with awe and amazement at what had befallen him. Book The Gospel According to the Apostles

Download or read book The Gospel According to the Apostles written by John F. MacArthur and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2005-03-06 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostles understood the Gospel as they learned from and personally lived alongside Jesus, and these lessons became the heart of their message to an unsaved world. But what does their perspective mean for modern Christians, and how can we read the Bible through their unique lens today? Following the release of his bestselling book The Gospel According to Jesus, Dr. MacArthur noticed that Christians were looking for practical advice, spiritual counsel, and accessible explanations of the Bible. And, most of all, they wanted help understanding their experiences within Christianity. Dr. MacArthur realized that by examining scripture from the perspective of the apostles themselves, even more Christians could come to know the Gospel as Jesus' earliest followers did. In his characteristic compelling style, Dr. MacArthur examines some of the key passages from the Epistles and Acts that reveal how the apostles first shared the gospel and how they unfolded the truths of salvation to the early church. Dr. MacArthur doesn't shy away from answering some of the difficult questions that he's been asked over the years, including: What is cheap grace? Have some Christians adopted a "no-lordship" theology? What must a person do to be considered righteous by God? How should we call people to faith? Do our works have any effect on our salvation? The Gospel According to the Apostles is a book for every Christian who wants to experience, understand, and fall in love with the same gospel that Jesus preached.

Book The Work and Teachings of the Apostles Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Work and Teachings of the Apostles The Apostolic Age is the most complex period of biblical history. Until the death of Jesus the interest of the biblical student is focused on the Hebrew race, but after that great turning-point in human history it suddenly becomes world-wide. Rome soon takes the place of Jerusalem as the centre of Christianity, and its historical background is the great Graeco-Roman world. It is during the Apostolic Age that the relatively narrow current of Jewish thought mingles with those which flow from the ancient East, from cultured Hellas, and from Rome itself. The mingling of these currents explains the resulting complexity of apostolic life and thought. The New Testament writings vividly reflect this mingling of civilizations and ideas. As they stand these books also lack chronological arrangement. To most New Testament readers the latter part of the New Testament is a labyrinth. It is full of immortal truths and richly suggestive of the heroism and hopes of the early Christians; but, aside from the book of Acts, the New Testament writings in their present order fail to make clear the unity of the mighty, onward, first-century movement of which they are practically the only record. Therefore a chronological synthesis of the material in the epistles and Acts is an indispensable prerequisite for the intelligent study of apostolic Christianity. The cumulative testimony of an ever-increasing body of biblical students confirms the conclusion that the most fruitful, in fact, the only satisfactory way to study biblical history and the complex literature contained in the Old and New Testaments, is by means of the source-method. When the more important passages of this ancient literature are singled out and arranged according to the scientific methods of classification, the biblical writers tell their own story and the modem student gains for the first time a clear and comprehensive knowledge of the abounding life and the vital principles recorded in the Bible.
