Book excerpt: What did God mean when He declared over the first man and woman: "LET THEM RULE"?I invite you to join me on a journey-a quest to discover God's original intent for His daughters and sons. -Have men and women been designed by God to co-labor in shared ministry? -Or has He assigned them gender-exclusive roles and responsibilities? -Does the Bible clearly indicate that women and men can lead together? -Or do the scriptures forbid women from even considering such positions?Side by Side describes my personal expedition to discover God's heart on the issue of men and women in ministry-an issue that will not go away anytime soon. Ignoring it or deploring it will not bring resolve-only further hurt and division. Could the collaborative leadership of women and men in the church be an answer to Jesus' prayer for us to be one? Though uniquely diverse, we are part of the same spiritual family. Can we tangibly love one another with the same love? Can we truly serve side by side in the same army, standing together in the same battle against the same enemy whom we will overcome with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead? Let's spend some time prayerfully processing this-together!

Book The Other Side of Terror

Download or read book The Other Side of Terror written by Erica R. Edwards and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER, 2022 John Hope Franklin Prize, given by the American Studies Association HONORABLE MENTION, 2022 Gloria E. Anzaldúa Book Prize, given by the National Women's Studies Association Reveals the troubling intimacy between Black women and the making of US global power The year 1968 marked both the height of the worldwide Black liberation struggle and a turning point for the global reach of American power, which was built on the counterinsurgency honed on Black and other oppressed populations at home. The next five decades saw the consolidation of the culture of the American empire through what Erica R. Edwards calls the “imperial grammars of blackness.” This is a story of state power at its most devious and most absurd, and, at the same time, a literary history of Black feminist radicalism at its most trenchant. Edwards reveals how the long war on terror, beginning with the late–Cold War campaign against organizations like the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense and the Black Liberation Army, has relied on the labor and the fantasies of Black women to justify the imperial spread of capitalism. Black feminist writers not only understood that this would demand a shift in racial gendered power, but crafted ways of surviving it. The Other Side of Terror offers an interdisciplinary Black feminist analysis of militarism, security, policing, diversity, representation, intersectionality, and resistance, while discussing a wide array of literary and cultural texts, from the unpublished work of Black radical feminist June Jordan to the memoirs of Condoleezza Rice to the television series Scandal. With clear, moving prose, Edwards chronicles Black feminist organizing and writing on “the other side of terror”, which tracked changes in racial power, transformed African American literature and Black studies, and predicted the crises of our current era with unsettling accuracy.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Jana DeLeon brings a humorous, paranormal women’s fiction tale. For many, midlife is only the beginning. It was a day like any other day for Marina Trahan…until she caught her husband in bed with another woman. Before that eye-opening wake-up call, Marina would have described her life as average or uneventful, maybe even boring. But now, chaos and confusion reign supreme. She’d expected to slide through midlife with her unwanted extra pounds, chin hair, and hot flashes and move somewhat gracefully into elastic waist pants and having no verbal filter. But with a wayward husband, a high-maintenance daughter, a lackluster career, and a crazy mother all weighing her down, Marina is ready to wave the white flag of surrender. Then an intriguing stranger named Alexios shows up out of nowhere and insists she is descended from a goddess and is the only person who can save the world from certain destruction. She has roughly a week to do it. Solving a centuries-old mystery seems like a more interesting proposition than the other situations Marina is facing, so she accepts his challenge. But her search for a magical item of power reveals far more about Marina than she ever knew. Maybe enough to save the world. And even herself.

Book The Other Side of War

Download or read book The Other Side of War written by Ferdinand Protzman and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2006 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zainab Salbi's media profile soared with her first book, a memoir of growing up in Saddam Hussein's inner circle. Her foundation, Women for Women International, plays a vital role in helping to heal war-torn nations. Here, with images by award-winning photographers, Salbi presents a collection of letters and first-person narratives by amazing women who survived war's devastation and now must find the strength to rebuild families and communities. Overviews by the author explain how each nation's history led to violent conflict; then the women tell their stories--of horror, cruelty, and suffering, but also of profound inspiration, as they work toward renewal and toward the day their fierce determination is rewarded with productivity, prosperity, and lasting joy.--From publisher description.
