Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Woman Movement The limited compass of this little book prevents me from substantiating my assertions by means of parallels with earlier times, comparisons which might illuminate certain spiritual transformations and new formations. My comparisons of the present with the past do not go farther back than my own memory reaches. And these touch, more over, in what concerns the past, principally up on Swedish conditions; while my impressions of the present were gathered throughout Europe. I have considered, however, that I could summarise both in a comprehensive picture. For although the women of Sweden a generation ago possessed rights for which the women in many countries are still struggling to-day, yet the woman movement in the last decade has advanced so rapidly that the conditions have in great measure been equal ised. Indeed, some of the grey-haired champions of the woman movement have seen one after another of their demands fulfilled in this new cen tury-demands which in the fifties and sixties, in many countries even in the seventies and eighties. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Feminist Movement Although the number of books, pamphlets, leaflets, and newspaper and magazine articles devoted to the exposition Of feminist teaching is enormous, general Ignorance of the subject points conclusively to the fact that these books are not commonly read. It is with the hope that it may reach one other section of the public, and fall into the hands of yet another class of readers, that this simple re-statement is made. Those who know everything there is to be known about feminism will get nothing from these chapters. Those who come fresh and uninformed to the subject may perhaps find something which will stimulate them to further investigation. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Future of the Women's Movement If to some reasonable and civilised men it may seem that -i have given undue importance to the foolishnesses and barbarisms of another kind of men, I would ask those men to remember that these are among our masters and we may not ignore them. We might like to treat them with the contempt they deserve, but we have at present to live under the laws that they help to make. Doubtless, when we are free, we shall suffer fools more gladly than we do now, having less to fear from them. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Woman's Movement NE of the strange things about the Woman's Movement is that the more widespread and important it grows the harder it becomes to define; it embraces so many issues and assumes such varied dress, and speaks in such different tongues. To some it seems to stand for all that is greatest and noblest and most hope ful in modern womanhood, to others for all that is most dangerous and anarchic in modern social tendencies, while others are left interested per haps, and sympathetic, but bewildered. Book The Modern Woman s Rights Movement

Download or read book The Modern Woman s Rights Movement written by Kaethe Schirmacher and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Modern Woman's Rights Movement: A Historical Survey The first edition of this book appeared in 1905. That edition is exhausted, an evidence of the great present-day interest in the woman's rights movement. This new edition takes into account the developments since 1905, contains the recent statistical data, and gives an account of the woman's suffrage movement which has been especially characteristic of these later years. Wherever the statistical data have been left unchanged, either there have been no new censuses or the new results were not available. The facts contained in this volume do not require of me any prefatory observations on the theoretical justification of the woman's rights movement.1 From the remotest time man has tried to rule her who ought to be comrade and colleague to him. By virtue of the law of might he generally succeeded Every protest against this law of might was a woman's rights movement. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Health and the Woman Movement At the present moment all professions and occupations are not only open to woman but are being successfully undertaken by her. Only yesterday women went to college at great personal sacrifice. And dire were the predictions of the evil results to her health and to the race. Characterized as herma phrodite in mind, and divested of her sex, the college woman failed to develop the eu ticipated evils. She was found to be rather healthier than her sisters who did not go to college, to marry as other women of her class, and to bear a rather larger number of healthy children.' To-day women go to college as a matter of course and without comment. The women of California, as in eleven other States and one territory in the United States, millions in number, cast their votes, perform their civic duties, even serving as election of ficials, without destroying health or homes. Where are the traditional handicaps of sex? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Some Aspects of the Woman s Movement Classic Reprint

Download or read book Some Aspects of the Woman s Movement Classic Reprint written by Ernest Barker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Some Aspects of the Woman's Movement The choice had to be made between a book by one author and a book by several. A composite book was decided upon, because adequate know ledge oi the matters dealt with was thought to be even more important than coherence; but it will be seen that the ideas which run through the book do, as a matter of fact, make it a coherent whole, in spite of varieties of style and approach. The book was to have been published in the autumn Of 1914, but on the outbreak of war publication was temporarily postponed. During the past year many theories have been tested by stern realities the place of woman in the life of the nation and in public service has been more firmly established the consideration of her point of view in politics, and particularly in international politics, has entered upon a new phase: much bitterness has been allayed a new Opportunity for unprejudiced consideration of her strength and her weakness has come about. At the same time a considerable amount of ethical unrest and of moral uncertainty has been revealed, and the need for the fuller understanding and teaching of positive and compelling moral ideals is clear. This book is an attempt to estimate the actualthe Woman's Movement. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
