But during a guerilla mission in the north Georgia mountains, he learns first-hand how horrific and destructive the war really is. Book On Wolves and Sheep

Download or read book On Wolves and Sheep written by Aaron M. Kahn and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rise of nationalism, and with it the nation-state in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, so arose new polemical issues. As the Spanish Empire expanded in the sixteenth century, theologians, jurists, artists and politicians commented on the morality and legitimacy of the imperial enterprise. With the increase in power of successive Spanish sovereigns from the Catholic Monarchs to Philip II (1556–98), followed by the decadence of the state through the reign of Charles II (1665–1700), political participants and observers alike put their thoughts on paper for mass dissemination. The study of epic poetry, poetry, drama, novels, rhetoric, imperial administrative documents and religion, reveals a plethora of means by which these people conveyed thoughts and opinions, often negatively critical, concerning Spain’s monarchs, their imperial policies, the Catholic Church, the role of the nobility in government, and societal limitations. Providing innovative literary interpretations and revealing newly-discovered archival material, experts from US and UK universities have contributed original scholarly studies to this volume which delve deeper than academia has thus far into the operations of imperial Spain and the reactions of the people of the time. Studying works by the likes of Alonso de Ercilla, Juan de la Cueva, Miguel de Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Francisco de Quevedo, and Calderón de la Barca, among others, On Wolves and Sheep explores the various methods used in the Spanish Golden Age to voice political opinions and ideas.

Book Jacob Savage Medicine Warrior

Download or read book Jacob Savage Medicine Warrior written by Thomas J. Butler and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-12-16 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though thousands of African slaves escaped or were freed from southern plantations in the United States during the 1860s, very little has been investigated, studied, or discussed about what happened to these new African American United States citizens who had to live out their existence on the North American continent. Since none of the former slaves were provided transportation back to their African homeland, every former slave or former African-American Civil War soldier had a story to tell about how the rest of their life was spent in North America. Many former African American slaves who fought in the civil War were placed in the 9th or 10th Cavalry Regiments that were organized and sent to patrol the Arizona territory after the end of the Civil War were issued horses, rifles, and pistols and learned to use them well. Jacob Savage was a member of a slave family that escaped from a Mississippi plantation before the beginning of the United States Civil War and escaped to Western Canada with the help of the underground railroad where he and his brothers and sister were raised just north of the Montana border of the United States and south of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Range. You will learn how Jacob lived among the American Indian, found a wild stallion, a wolf, and a gold claim in the Sawtooth and Wind River Mountains of the early American West, then journeyed back to his boyhood Canadian home.

In all his days as a bounty hunter, Joe Noose never met an outlaw like Bonny Kate Valence. The notorious female gunslinger has the kind of beauty that drives men wild—and a criminal record longer than the Snake River. She also has a date with the gallows. But before anyone can put a rope around that pretty neck, Joe Noose has to bring her in alive. On the way, he’ll have to protect his prisoner from a vile ex-lover and a vengeance-seeking posse. Which puts Noose’s neck on the line, too. Especially when this female of the species is deadlier than the male. . . . Book Islands Under Fire

Download or read book Islands Under Fire written by Kevin McCarey and published by Square One Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-08-02 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A portrait of an often overlooked part of America—Puerto Rico and the Spanish Virgin Islands—this is the little-known story of how the U.S. government, in particular the Navy, almost destroyed a pristine coral reef to provide a target for gunners. The author’s true and humorous account of his role in this sometimes bizarre tale reveals how locals, politicos, and mariners came together to save a coral reef from certain destruction, and how the need to protect the fragile marine environment can bring meaning and direction to anyone’s life, young or old. The conservation efforts represent a perfect example of what highly motivated citizens and political leaders can achieve when taking action to protect what they love. The author, hired as captain of a small research vessel, led the underwater search for evidence of the coral reef damage that would be used to convince the U.S. government to stop its bombardment of the island. While he did not have a direct role in the legal activities of Washington, DC, his efforts to collect factual evidence that would be used by the lawyers proved to be of immeasurable importance. His role enabled the Culebrans, the residents of this tranquil island paradise, to gather proof of the destruction, which ultimately convinced everyone—including President Nixon—to stop the carnage. This triumphant tale serves as an inspiration for anyone wanting to make a difference in environmental conservation. Video link about the title https://vimeo.com/115834587

Book excerpt: "My people are destroyed for lack of Knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). This book is not meant for those who refuse to step out of their box, but instead cling onto their blinders, believing that the world is exactly as they have always been taught it is. Rather, it is specially written for those who discern that things are not exactly as they seem, and are dedicated to the pursuit of truth and knowledge. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places"(Ephesians 6:12). "Behold a White Horse" is a roller coaster ride engaged in a myriad of related topics. The reader will be taken all the way back to ancient Babylon - the foundation of all secret societies, and continue on through Egypt and Rome. Other topics covered are ceremonial magick, kundalini power and evil spirits, the Talmud, Kabbalah, the apostasy of the Christian church today, alchemy, Papal Rome and the Catholic church, false prophets of the world, televangelists - wolves in sheep's clothing, & pagans in the pulpit." " Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen" (Romans 1:25) "This work is spiritually based, using many scriptures. It is the prayer of the author that through careful reading of these pages, the reader can connect the dots into a whole new level of discernment to help guard against demon traps and the many devices of Satan. Knowledge is power and the truth really does set you free."
