Book excerpt: The real question for homiletics in our increasingly postmodern, post-Christian contexts is not how we are going to prevent preaching from dying, but how we are going to help it die a good death. Preaching was not made to live. At most, preaching is a witness, a sign, a crimson X marking a demolition site. The church has developed sophisticated technologies in modernity to give preaching the semblance of life, belying the truth: preaching was born under a death sentence. It was born to die. Only when preaching embraces its own death is it able to live. This book, then, is a bold homiletical manifesto against preaching in support of preaching, and beyond preaching to the entire worship experience. It troubles modern homiletical theologies in light of the trouble always already at work within preaching. Hereby, it supports a way of preaching--and teaching preaching--that moves counter to the "wisdom of this world." It aims to joins in God‘s self-revealed counterlogic of superabundance that saturates and thereby breaks open worldly systems of thought and practice. The purpose of this book is to expose preaching to its own death-to help it embrace its death-so that it can discover what eternal and abundant life might look and feels like.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "They Must Die" is an undimmed corpus of delirious crime stories based on the international canvas. Its capstone feature is the opaque side of human nature. While facing real-life ataxia, some persons become victims of psychological disorders and anxiety. They attempt to turn the wheel of destiny in their way and put themselves under a spell of psychosis or schizophrenia for revenge or to escape and obviously target the serene environment of society around them. The atrocious criminal stories, needless to say, grab a frizzing hold of human mind quickly. To spike, this snare in ascending direction till the end has been a pink skill of the writers and the story as well. This corpus of delirious criminal stories depicts this flair almost on every page on. The twined state of the psychogenic mind before the crime and the skillful use of these psychodynamics are exhibited in the anthology “They Must Die”. The spooked crime even though has been done with perilous sneakiness, and it is negative or destructive in nature too but an acute care has been taken here in particular by neutralizing the sublimation of these crimes. Of course, through the instantiating description, we strongly believe that readers will be utterly screwed down with the stupefying touchstone of this compilation of stories. This creation is a sapient collection of four delirious crime stories and it depicts a criminal social canker as a threat to the civilized society, so…. they must die.

Book excerpt: The definitive text on the mystery of R.F.K.’s assassination by a reporter who “got inside this story . . . with his impressive grasp of all the loose ends” (Kirkus Reviews). On the night of June 4, 1968, Sirhan Sirhan shot and killed Sen. Robert F. Kennedy in a steamy pantry of the Los Angeles Ambassador Hotel. Kennedy and his entourage had been celebrating his victory in the California primary for the Democratic nomination for president. Everybody knew that Sirhan was the assassin. But was there a wider conspiracy? Did the FBI truly solve the crime? After working his way deep inside the investigation—and spending more than two hundred hours in direct conversation with Sirhan—Robert Blair Kaiser wrote the quintessential book on Robert Kennedy’s murder. Then, forty years later, Kaiser returned to the evidence, revising his original text as he probed even further into this mystifying tragedy. Widely recognized as an important contribution to the literature of political assassinations and as a primary document on the tragedy of Kennedy’s death, “R.F.K. Must Die!” is more than ever a stunning look into the mind of a killer and the substance of an assassination.

Book The Witness for the Dead

Download or read book The Witness for the Dead written by Katherine Addison and published by Tor Books. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "At once intimate and literally operatic, it's everything I love about Katherine Addison's writing, in ways I didn't know to expect. I loved it." —John Scalzi Katherine Addison returns to the glittering world she created for her beloved novel, The Goblin Emperor, with book one of the Cemeteries of Amalo trilogy Locus Award Finalist and Mythopoeic Award Finalist! When the young half-goblin emperor Maia sought to learn who had set the bombs that killed his father and half-brothers, he turned to an obscure resident of his father’s Court, a Prelate of Ulis and a Witness for the Dead. Thara Celehar found the truth, though it did him no good to discover it. He lost his place as a retainer of his cousin the former Empress, and made far too many enemies among the many factions vying for power in the new Court. The favor of the Emperor is a dangerous coin. Now Celehar lives in the city of Amalo, far from the Court though not exactly in exile. He has not escaped from politics, but his position gives him the ability to serve the common people of the city, which is his preference. He lives modestly, but his decency and fundamental honesty will not permit him to live quietly. As a Witness for the Dead, he can, sometimes, speak to the recently dead: see the last thing they saw, know the last thought they had, experience the last thing they felt. It is his duty use that ability to resolve disputes, to ascertain the intent of the dead, to find the killers of the murdered. Celehar’s skills now lead him out of the quiet and into a morass of treachery, murder, and injustice. No matter his own background with the imperial house, Celehar will stand with the commoners, and possibly find a light in the darkness. Katherine Addison has created a fantastic world for these books – wide and deep and true.
