Book excerpt: Working with widowers can be one of the most challenging parts of a therapist’s career. Despite the need for better research and professional guidance, therapists have often been left alone to confront a group struggling with high rates of suicide, mortality, physical health problems, and depression. Counseling Widowers builds from the latest developments in grief research and men’s studies to bridge the gap between counseling practice and the needs of bereaved men. In these pages, therapists will find tools for adjusting their clinical strategies to work more effectively with these men. Through a more empathic understanding of widowers, therapists can help them build from their strengths as they face the loss of their partner.

Book The Widow Or Widower Next Door

Download or read book The Widow Or Widower Next Door written by Mary Lee Robinson and published by Mill City Press, Incorporated. This book was released on 2015 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most everyone knows that losing a mate to death is a painful experience. Those who have not had such a loss of someone very close, seldom realize the depth and breadth of that pain. As a result, in an effort to make the bereaved (or themselves) feel better, and to distance themselves from the event they say and do some outrageous and unthinking things. Others, possessing very tender hearts, say and do some of the kindest things imagineable. Most all of us who participated in writing this book found ourselves surprised by other people's reactions to our loss. The Widow or Widower Next Door is a collection of stories that reveal the unexpected reactions that occur. We prepare for school by attending Pre-K. We prepare to get our Driver's License by taking driving lessons. We got to pre-marital counseling before we wed. Nothing, but nothing prepares us for the loss of a spouse. We hope this book will get people thinking and preparing, and we hope that it will help them learn how to better help a friend or a neighbor with such a loss. Readers have asked why is there a logo of a hand with a heart in it as the cover of the book? The answer lies in The Valentine's Story, excerpted from the book: "The doctors told me that Pat was not going to be with me much longer. I took a red marker and a ballpoint pen with me to the hospital on Valentine's Day. I took his hand and drew a heart on his palm. I wrote "my heart" inside it and said 'I love you; you hold my heart in your hand'. The mortician left it in place. Pat still holds my heart in his hand and my heart is warm because of it.

Download or read book Lost Found written by Robert W. Swanson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-09-18 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year 250,000 American males involuntarily join the ranks of widowers. Unfortunately, I lost my beloved wife after 41 years of marriage. Because of this personal tragedy I wrote Lost & Found, a Widowers Survival Guide! LOST pertaining to vanishing. Love/companionship/and special order. And FOUND pertaining to finding pragmatic solutions for a widowers daily life challenges. LOST AND FOUND is not a clinical analysis of grief prepared by well meaning psychologists. On the contrary, each chapter is the result of my personal experiences coping with unfamiliar demands of life without my mate. Regardless of where widowers come from economically, ethnically, or spiritually the destination they arrive at is sadly the same. They are all LOST! Unfamiliar and freighting challenges appear to stay or sell their home, altered finances, house keeping, cooking, health concerns, the mystery of dating, vacationing solo, single grand parenting, sexuality, remarriage, cohabitation.. New widowers desperately need pragmatic answers to these critical issues. Analysts and psychologists will probe a widowers inter self, but they dont wash dishes, change bedding, prepare meals, and select female companionship! In my straight-forward book I have detailed my experiences struggling with the personal melt down emanating from the loss of my beloved wife. With candor (and some wit) my travels in LOST & FOUND are rubber meets the road, widower tested tips for daily survival. Thus this work becomes a very practical guide with easy-to-follow support for the suffering widower, and others wishing to help such a soul rebuild a life. It is currently the book on the market that addresses these delicate and demanding issues. Chapters include such topics as on-line dating understanding contemporary women to sell or stay in your home re-marriage cohabitation disposing of wifes wardrobe single grand parenting traveling alone help from consolers childrens attitudes altered finances maintaining health keeping house meal preparation and dozens more. The topics covered in my book LOST & FOUND have been endorsed by Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, and have become the basis for an in-depth series of seminars created to help widowers beyond grief. Currently hundreds of widowers are enrolled in the program entitled LOST & FOUND, a Widowers Survival Course. My personal background is that of an award winning, non-theatrical film producer, having written hundreds of scripts for international clients; working on high value projects spanning over 50 nations. Scripts covered a wide variety of subjects from German and French Wines, the menace of communism, to showcasing the major hotels of the world. Awards include the coveted Golden Camera, New York Film Festival, Gold Medal Berlin, and the George Washington Freedom Foundation Medal. My background in creative writing is adroitly reflected in LOST & FOUND. I urge all widowers (and those wishing to help a man in such circumstances) to check out LOST & FOUND. This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Losing a spouse or romantic life partner causes a special kind of heartbreak, loneliness, and disappointment. Your plans for your life have irrevocably changed. Because everyone mourns differently, guided journal writing is a useful tool for navigating the phases of grief in a personalized, private way. The Widow's Journal is written in a frank yet hopeful style by lifelong journaler Carrie P. Freeman, PhD, a communication professor, who set out to write the kind of book she could have used when, just prior to her thirtieth birthday, she lost her own husband to cancer. Unlike other bereavement books, The Widow's Journal doesn't tell you what to do, it isn't a memoir or collection of other people's stories, and it isn't limited to any particular spiritual outlook. Instead it provides over one hundred guiding questions (from the practical to the profound) that you can use to progress through the grieving process, culminating in a collection of your most useful insights for reflection. Freeman's thoughtful questions prompt you to reflect on your feelings, but more importantly, provide a gentle path toward productively coping with intense grief while making plans to build a meaningful new life. This journal works like a guided diary or workbook, with beautifully decorated pages on which to write and/or color. It is designed to be a useful, caring gift for those whose husband, wife, or life partner has died within the last year. The author's book website is www.thewidowsjournal.com

After responding to a startling distress call originating from within the network, the Discovery crew find themselves trapped in an inescapable realm where they will surely perish unless their missing mycelial fuel is found or restored.
