Book The Widow Or Widower Next Door

Download or read book The Widow Or Widower Next Door written by Mary Lee Robinson and published by Mill City Press, Incorporated. This book was released on 2015 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most everyone knows that losing a mate to death is a painful experience. Those who have not had such a loss of someone very close, seldom realize the depth and breadth of that pain. As a result, in an effort to make the bereaved (or themselves) feel better, and to distance themselves from the event they say and do some outrageous and unthinking things. Others, possessing very tender hearts, say and do some of the kindest things imagineable. Most all of us who participated in writing this book found ourselves surprised by other people's reactions to our loss. The Widow or Widower Next Door is a collection of stories that reveal the unexpected reactions that occur. We prepare for school by attending Pre-K. We prepare to get our Driver's License by taking driving lessons. We got to pre-marital counseling before we wed. Nothing, but nothing prepares us for the loss of a spouse. We hope this book will get people thinking and preparing, and we hope that it will help them learn how to better help a friend or a neighbor with such a loss. Readers have asked why is there a logo of a hand with a heart in it as the cover of the book? The answer lies in The Valentine's Story, excerpted from the book: "The doctors told me that Pat was not going to be with me much longer. I took a red marker and a ballpoint pen with me to the hospital on Valentine's Day. I took his hand and drew a heart on his palm. I wrote "my heart" inside it and said 'I love you; you hold my heart in your hand'. The mortician left it in place. Pat still holds my heart in his hand and my heart is warm because of it.

They do so largely through their wills, which themselves exemplify the ability of widows to make choices and to order their lives.

  • Pages : 197 pages

Download or read book When You Give written by Tim Howington and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are just looking for the highlights of our study, here you go! Generosity in its simplest form is giving. Giving of your time, talent and treasure towards something or someone you value. Kingdom Generosity is a big, big deal. What is at stake here? The financial integrity of the greatest endeavor that man has ever participated in... the expansion of the Kingdom of God! When Jesus came, He preached and said, “Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17). As He ascended back to heaven, He gave His disciples a mandate to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth and to make disciples of all the nations (Matthew 28:18-20). We call that mandate the Great Commission. The Christian family has a responsibility to fulfill this mandate in our generation. This will take time, talent, and treasure. Two of the biggest challenges to the Great Commission are 1) Christians willing to spread His Word 2) Christians willing to give to His work. In this book, we are writing about how to fund the mission. It is time to transition our thinking from the organizations financed to the primary funder- the Christian family. The financial health and vision of the Christian family is critical for reaching the world for Christ in this generation and in your children’s generation and your grandchildren’s generation, too.

Book The Power of Gratitude

Download or read book The Power of Gratitude written by Patrick M. Garry and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-04-13 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Power of Gratitude reflects on the experiences of Michael and Elizabeth Garry, who became an inspiration in their community, to reveal the secret to a life filled with the virtues we often consider unattainable. Michael and Elizabeth demonstrated how true gratitude might be foundational to everything else: the attribute that enables one to love without interruption, serve without expectation, persevere without anguish, and find joy in every minute of life. Gratitude is not just a thank you for a specific benefit, it is a way of life. Based on their lives, a self-improvement conference could be condensed to one sentence: if you nurture an enduring gratitude--and not just a thankfulness for particular events--then you may find a deep joy, as opposed to transitory excitements. The lesson they taught: find gratitude, and you will find the person God meant you to be. The Power of Gratitude also reflects on the divisiveness of contemporary society. In ungrateful times, there can be no social peace. Rivalries fueled by resentments replace the unity and generosity that flow from a culture of gratitude. But when gratitude dispels fear, it can inspire the courage to live in a way that fuels future gratitude.
