Book The Whitetail Addiction

Download or read book The Whitetail Addiction written by Cutter and published by Publishamerica Incorporated. This book was released on 2009-08-24 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn all the tricks and tips to take giant whitetails. The Whitetail Addiction is the true story of one man from Canada who was introduced to hunting at a very early age. Follow the story of his life from childhood to manhood and learn how he caught the hunting fever shared by millions of fellow hunters. The hunting fever known as the whitetail addiction. For this addiction there is no cure; only a certain type of treatment can slightly tame the addiction. Freezing temperatures, sleepless nights, waking up at early morning, long, cold, sometimes wet walks in the forest, tired, stiff, cramped muscles, frozen fingers and toes. These are just some of the treatments for the whitetail addiction. Hunters are a very different breed with a real addiction and the only treatment for us is brutal and sometimes painful. But sometimes we beat the odds and set our sights on the very creature that caused this addiction. When our aim is true and our bullets do their job, we forget the long, brutal treatment we put ourselves through each and every fall and look down at our kill and smile, for we have just beaten the addiction for the season! But as soon as the leaves begin to turn the next year we know that the fever will return as the whitetail addiction returns!

Book excerpt: A stag leaps on an ancient brooch. A doe and a fawn step across a field at first light. A pair of antlers is silhouetted by the side of a busy road. From the earliest cave paintings to the present day, humans and deer have a long and complex history. Royal harts were the coveted quarry of European kings, while the first Americans relied on deer for everything from buckskins to arrow heads. Once hunted to the point of extinction in some parts of the world, deer numbers have exploded in recent years, causing tension between scientists and conservationists. And yet, this is our own story, as the fortune of deer is inextricably bound up with the actions that we humans take on the world around us. Weaving together history and reportage, in The Age of Deer Erika Howsare deftly explores the relationship between our two species in the line where wildness meets humankind. It is a reminder of the poetry and violence of the natural world, from an exciting new voice in nature writing.

Book Hunting Farm Country Whitetails

Download or read book Hunting Farm Country Whitetails written by Dragan Vujic and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-06-07 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In their formative years, whitetails develop an intimate relationship with their environment. Thereafter, these big game animals resonate in perfect harmony with their specific surroundings. Behavior patterns of timberland, mountain bred, prairie flats and farm country deer vary substantially. Whitetails behave differently depending on where they are hunted. Predominantly, habitat dictates habits and routines in daily activity. Deer patterns become relatively uniform and reasonably predictable in any particular region. Irrespective of where they live, all whitetails become creatures of habit. Dragan Vujic has hunted whitetails extensively in the checkered agricultural belts scattered along both sides of the border between Canada and the United States. He shares forty years of hunting experience in this informative book. Initially, Dragan examines and explores the common characteristics of farm country deer. Subsequently, he enumerates and analyzes the drivers and motivators of whitetail behavior. Thereafter, having integrated all of the relevant information, the author suggests several effective strategies for harvesting farm country whitetails. [email protected]

Book Whitetail Nation

Download or read book Whitetail Nation written by Pete Bodo and published by HMH. This book was released on 2010-11-15 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dedicated deer hunter “writes with humor and insight” about his adventures—and misadventures—in the wild (Orlando Sentinel). Every autumn, millions of men and women across the country don their camo, stock up on doe urine, and undertake a quintessential American tradition—deer hunting. The pinnacle of a hunter’s quest is killing a buck with antlers that “score” highly enough to qualify for the Boone and Crockett record book. But in all his seasons on the trail, Pete Bodo, an avid outdoorsman and student of the hunt, had never reached that milestone. Sadly, he had to admit it: He was a nimrod. Whitetail Nation is the uproarious story of the season Pete Bodo set out to kill the big buck. From the rolling hills of upstate New York to the vast and unforgiving land of the Big Sky to the Texas ranches that feature high fences, deer feeders, and money-back guarantees, Bodo traverses deep into the heart of a lively, growing subculture that draws powerfully on durable American values: the love of the frontier, the importance of self-reliance, the camaraderie of men in adventure, the quest for sustained youth, and yes, the capitalist’s right to amass every high tech hunting gadget this industry’s exploding commerce has to offer. Gradually, Bodo closes in on his target—that elusive monster buck—and with each day spent perched in a deer stand or crawling stealthily in high grass (praying the rattlesnakes are gone), or shivering through the night in a drafty cabin (flannel, polar fleece, and whiskey be damned), readers are treated to an unforgettable tour through a landscape that ranges from the exalted to the absurd. Along the way Bodo deftly captures the spirit and passion of this rich American pursuit, tracing its history back to the days of Lewis and Clark and examining that age old question: “Why do men hunt?”
