He came to America on the ship "Trial" landing at Jamestown in the new colony of Virginia in 1620. The migration of this family expands from the James River area in Virginia to what would become Granville Co., North Carolina. The James River area - Isle of Wight County, Va., Princess Anne Co., Va. and Albemarle Co., N.C. - which was destined to become Bertie, Edgecombe and Granville counties were all contiguous.

The immigrant ancestor, Thomas Currin (d. 1730), came from Ireland to New York City in the early 1700s. His son, Hugh (ca. 1710-1777), of St. Martins Parish in Hanover Co., Va. was a blacksmith. He probably moved to Granville Co., N.C. between 1764 and 1772. James Currin (ca. 1733-1781), son of Hugh, married Elizabeth Wheeler (ca. 1732-1820). They came Granville County, N.C. from Louisa Co., Va. around 1764/65. Descendants live in North Carolina and elsewhere.
