Download or read book The Wedding Song of Wisdom Echoes from the Gnosis Volume XI written by G. R. S. Mead and published by . This book was released on 2015-11-25 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hymn which forms the subject of this little volume has no traditional title. Like The Hymn of the Robe of Glory, which formed the last of these Echoes, it is found in the Syriac Acts of Judas Thomas, where it is put in the mouth of the Apostle who is said, on his travels, to have been guest of honour at a bridal feast. In addition to the Syriac we have a Greek text which is plainly a translation. The Greek is in prose, but the Syriac for the most part in verses of twelve syllables, in couplets, "just like The Hymn of the Robe 'of Glory. As Macke tells us (p. 17), where the Greek and Syriac agree the verses are of six syllables; or more correctly, as Burkitt has pointed out (p. 277), normally 6 + 6, but sometimes 5+7- Moreover, the Greek can be translated back into metred Syriac where the present Syriac departs from the metre. An Armenian version also existed, of which, unfortunately, we now possess only the opening and closing lines. All scholars agree that the original Hymn was composed in Syriac; but is our Syriac text as it stands the original? It plainly is not; it has been " overworked," as the Germans call it, by an editor, and that too, to serve certain theological interests, while the scraps of the Armenian version show that it in its turn had been still further over-worked.

Download or read book Song of Solomon written by Dr. Bonnie L. Westhoff and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of First Kings 4:32 says that Solomon wrote 1005 songs. A song is poetry like the Psalms that were sung to bring forth a message from God. God deemed this song important enough to keep it in His manual, the Bible. The Books of First and Second Samuel are the historical books of David, but His love and emotions for God were written in his Psalms. Likewise, the Book of Revelation is a historical book of the bride of Christ, but the Song of Solomon is the love and emotions of Christ and His bride. This book is being published at the same time as Revelation to be companion books with the same overview. God desired a people who would be adopted into His kingdom. Christ would redeem every person who would acknowledge the plan of God to become children of the Most High God. The Bible was inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16). The Book of Song of Solomon shows the love of the Lord Jesus to His bride, the Church, who is called Shulamite. Shulamite in Hebrew is the feminine noun for Solomon. Solomon in Hebrew is shalom meaning peace unto wholeness. This wholeness comes from a relationship with the Lord which is offered to everyone, male or female, Jewish or Gentile (non-Jewish). Do not think of Solomon in this book as the king, for he too is a believer in the Lord, so therefore He too can be the Shulamite. This is not a picture of Solomons love for a woman, but instead the story of how Solomon came to love the Lord and grow spiritually throughout His life. Both Books (Revelation and Song of Solomon) are actually a symbolic picture of the Ancient Jewish Wedding. The bride is the Church, and therefore, seen as female, yet we know that God is identified as being present in both male and female. Therefore, Solomon is writing as a believer growing in his walk with the Lord. Song of Solomon, like all books in the Old Testament, point to Jesus. It cant be about Solomon and his love for a woman; IT HAS TO BE ABOUT JESUS. Therefore, it shows how a believer grows in their relationship with Jesus. The Jewish wedding takes us from the first time we see Jesus in the spirit and are engaged (salvation) to the time we see Jesus face to face in marriage (our resurrection) to the time we return with Christ to rule and reign as His wife (Millennium) to the time we live in the new heaven and earth (eternity). The intention of this book is to experience in the spirit the life of the believer growing in our knowledge and relationship with Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: This 10-week study of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon mines the Wisdom Literature not only for wise principles for living, but also for the wise person these books point to through their drama, poetry, proverb, and song. In her accessible and authentic style, Nancy Guthrie focuses on seeing Jesus in the Old Testament instead of emphasizing works-based moralism. She presents clear commentary and contemporary application of gospel truths, speaking directly to issues such as repentance, submission, happiness, and sexuality. Each weekly lesson includes questions for personal study, a contemporary teaching chapter that emphasizes how the passage fits into the bigger story of redemptive history, a brief section on how the passage uniquely points to what is yet to come at the consummation of Christ's kingdom, and a leader's guide for group discussion.
