Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his long reign (1279-1213 BC), Ramesses II left his mark on ancient Egypt, bringing prosperity, justice and order in a golden age during which cultural life thrived. As a builder he created spectacular monuments - the two temples at Abu Simbel, the royal city of Piramesse and the Ramesseum, his mortuary temple, whose ruins inspired Shelley's poem, Ozymandias. As a warrior, Ramesses the Great expanded Egyptian sovereignty from Nubia in the south to Syria in the west. Drawing upon original government documents of the royal offices, as well as the magnificent record of his military victories and religious rites, recounted in wall paintings, bas-reliefs and colossal statues, this book builds up a picture of this exceptional pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty, who did so much to shape Egypt.

Book excerpt: THE AMU The Amuthis Asiatic race which invaded and conquered ancient Egypt during a time of cosmic upheaval, then enslaved most of Egypt for over four hundred years. It seems probable that in 1491 BC, a large asteroid hit the earth but did not reach the ground but bounced off our atmosphere. Beneath it, it would have created an explosion as great as one hundred Hiroshima atomic bombs exploding simultaneously. It was this that created the volcanic eruptions and tsunamis which did so much damage. It was at this time when Egypt was beset with such terrible cosmic damage that Moses and the Hebrews made their exit and the time when the Amu entered an Egypt paralysed and at their mercy. It has been assumed for a long time that this Amu invasion occurred around 2000 BC. Yet the Bible seems to indicate that Moses and the Israelites fled Egypt around 1500 BC. Thus we must deduct some five hundred years from events stated as happening so much earlier. There are of course many more reasons for assuming this fact. Then some four hundred years later, a rebellion by Upper Egypt, and later, Pharaoh Ahmose and Thutmose I freed Egypt from the Amu and went on to crown Princess Makere Hatshepsut as the only female pharaoh. Grabmeier The Prophet and the Warrior is historical fiction that follows the Biblical texts of the books of Moses as presented in the King James Bible. This novel enhances the various stories by adding dialogue and expanding the role of various characters. It occasionally diverges from the Biblical text when an alternative context seems more logical to the author. Richard H. Grabmeier’s own religious experience prompted him to read the Bible with a more critical eye.

Book Qadesh 1300 BC

Download or read book Qadesh 1300 BC written by Mark Healy and published by Greenwood. This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The earliest battle in history which can be reconstructed in detail, Qadesh pitted the two great warriors of the age against each other, Muwatallish of Hatti and the great warrior-Pharaoh Rameses II. With the Hittites gaining the initial advantage, all seemed lost until Rameses himself led his personal followers into the fray. However, in spite of the appearance of Egyptian reinforcements, the bravery of the pharaoh and the tactically superior showing of the Egyptian chariotry, the dislocation of his army frustrated the Pharaoh's wider strategic aspirations. Mark Healy recounts the course of this key battle, which could so easily have gone either way. Perhaps history's first great battle (and certainly the first for which there is detailed documentary evidence) it pitted the two great warriors of the age against each other, Muwatallish of Hatti and the great warrior-Pharaoh Rameses II. Egypt's revival under the New Kingdom pharoahs was bound to bring her into conflict with her neighbour and in the event this key battle could have gone either way. With the Hittites gaining the initial advantage by surprising the Egyptians all seemed lost until Rameses himself led his personal followers into the fray throwing back the Hittite chariots. However, in spite of the appearance of Egyptian reinforcements, the bravery of the pharaoh and the tactically superior showing of the Egyptian chariotry, the dislocation of his army dashed the Pharaoh's wider strategic aspirations. In spite of their success in stopping the Hittites destroying their camp at Amun and killing their Pharaoh, the Egyptians are considered to have lost the battle of Qadesh. In this Osprey Campaign title Mark Healy recounts the course of the battle and explains its effect on the political situation of the ancient world. His detailed text is superbly backed up by well chosen illustrations and photographs, including the pictorial reliefs on Egyptian temple walls and photographs of the battlefield as it is today.
