Book Hot Forming of Aluminum Magnesium Alloy Sheet

Download or read book Hot Forming of Aluminum Magnesium Alloy Sheet written by MJ. Painter and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A range of aluminum-magnesium alloys (2 to 6 percent magnesium) have been deformed in uniaxial tension over the temperature range 300 to 500°C (572 to 932°F) and substantial increases in ductility have been demonstrated. Grain growth, however, limits ductility in the 2 percent magnesium alloy, while cavitation limits it in 6 percent magnesium alloy. It is suggested that dynamic recovery and perhaps a contribution from dynamic recrystallization are the metallurgical mechanisms responsible for this behavior.

Book Warm Formability of Aluminum magnesium Alloys

Download or read book Warm Formability of Aluminum magnesium Alloys written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturers have become increasingly interested in near-net-shape forming of aluminum alloys as a means to reduce production costs and the weight of aircraft and automotive structures. To achieve the ductilities required for this process, we have examined extended ductility of Al-Mg alloys in the warm forming, or Class I creep, regime. We have studied a high-purity, binary alloy of Al-2.8Mg and ternary alloys of Al-xMg-0.5Mn with Mg concentrations from 1.0 to 6.6 wt. %. Tensile tests, including strain rates-change tests, have been performed with these materials at temperatures of 300 and 400C over a range 10[sup [minus]4] to 2 [times] 10[sup [minus]2] s[sup [minus]1]. A maximum tensile failure strain of 325% for the binary alloy and a maximum of 125% in the ternary alloys have been measured. The experimental results have been used to evaluate the effects of solute concentration, microstructure, temperature, and strain rate on flow stress ([sigma]), elongation to failure (e[sub f]), and strain-rate sensitivity (m) of these alloys.

Book Superplastic Forming of Advanced Metallic Materials

Download or read book Superplastic Forming of Advanced Metallic Materials written by G Giuliano and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultra fine-grained metals can show exceptional ductility, known as superplasticity, during sheet forming. The higher ductility of superplastic metals makes it possible to form large and complex components in a single operation without joints or rivets. The result is less waste, lower weight and manufacturing costs, high precision and lack of residual stress associated with welding which makes components ideal for aerospace, automotive and other applications. Superplastic forming of advanced metallic materials summarises key recent research on this important process. Part one reviews types of superplastic metals, standards for superplastic forming, processes and equipment. Part two discusses ways of modelling superplastic forming processes whilst the final part of the book considers applications, including superplastic forming of titanium, aluminium and magnesium alloys.
