P. Breckinridge and Miss Edith Abbott, who are both well qualified, not only by rather unusual academic training, but also by practical experience, to speak authoritatively on questions relating to wage earning women. Miss Breckinridge is a graduate of Wellesley College, and later received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from The University of Chicago. Since 1902, she has been a member of the faculty of the University of Chicago] where she has given courses attended by both men and women on The Legal Status of Labor and The Legal Position of Women. In 4904 she was made a Doctor of Law, and she was also the first woman to be admitted to the bar of Kentucky, although she has never actively practised. Since 1907 she has been, in addition, head of the Department of Social Investi gation at the Chicago School of Civics and Philanthropy, which dis burses a budget of from a grant of the Russell Sage Foundation, and which has published a series of valuable studies on social conditions in Chicago. Miss Breckinridge is also identified with many social interests in Chicago. She is President of the Woman's City Club; Secretary of the Immigrants' Protective League; a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society, of the Consumers' League, and of other similar organizations.
