Book Eye Can Write

Download or read book Eye Can Write written by Jonathan Bryan and published by Bonnier Publishing Ltd.. This book was released on 2018-07-12 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can you imagine not being able to speak or communicate? The silence, the loneliness, the pain. But, inside you disappear to magical places, and even meet your best friend there. However, most of the time you remain imprisoned within the isolation. Waiting, longing, hoping. Until someone realises your potential and discovers your key, so your unlocking can begin. Now you are free, flying like a wild bird in the open sky. A voice for the voiceless. Jonathan Bryan has severe cerebral palsy, a condition that makes him incapable of voluntary movement or speech. He was locked inside his own mind, aware of the outside world but unable to fully communicate with it until he found a way by using his eyes to laboriously choose individual letters, and through this make his thoughts known. In Eye can Write, we read of his intense passion for life, his mischievous sense of fun, his hopes, his fears and what it's like to be him. This is a powerful book from an incredible young writer whose writing ability defies age or physical disability - a truly inspirational figure. Foreword by Sir Michael Morpurgo A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Jonathan Bryan's charity, Teach Us Too. http://www.teachustoo.org.uk/

Book The Voice Over

  • Author : Maria Stepanova
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press
  • Release : 2021-05-18
  • ISBN : 0231551681
  • Pages : 392 pages

Download or read book The Voice Over written by Maria Stepanova and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maria Stepanova is one of the most powerful and distinctive voices of Russia’s first post-Soviet literary generation. An award-winning poet and prose writer, she has also founded a major platform for independent journalism. Her verse blends formal mastery with a keen ear for the evolution of spoken language. As Russia’s political climate has turned increasingly repressive, Stepanova has responded with engaged writing that grapples with the persistence of violence in her country’s past and present. Some of her most remarkable recent work as a poet and essayist considers the conflict in Ukraine and the debasement of language that has always accompanied war. The Voice Over brings together two decades of Stepanova’s work, showcasing her range, virtuosity, and creative evolution. Stepanova’s poetic voice constantly sets out in search of new bodies to inhabit, taking established forms and styles and rendering them into something unexpected and strange. Recognizable patterns of ballads, elegies, and war songs are transposed into a new key, infused with foreign strains, and juxtaposed with unlikely neighbors. As an essayist, Stepanova engages deeply with writers who bore witness to devastation and dramatic social change, as seen in searching pieces on W. G. Sebald, Marina Tsvetaeva, and Susan Sontag. Including contributions from ten translators, The Voice Over shows English-speaking readers why Stepanova is one of Russia’s most acclaimed contemporary writers.

This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginnings, judgments and covenants teach us about a loving God. Were we created or did we evolve? Was there a worldwide flood? Are we the chosen people of God? Did people really live for hundreds of years way back when? How big was the ark? Was there really a Garden of Eden? Did Adam and Eve have daughters? Is creation, intelligent design or evolution correct? Do we know when everything came into existence? What does Genesis have to do with me? Why am I here? Who is this Creator God? Does the Voice of God speak to me? Stephen Mayer has been a Bible teacher for three decades and a high school Bible, science and history teacher within Christian schools for many of those years. He has a B.A. from Lipscomb (Nashville), an M.A. from Regent (Virginia Beach), and is in the final years of his PhD in Science Education with Curtin University (Perth, Australia). In this book, he cross-references and overlaps several chapters that are often misunderstood, misinterpreted, or blatantly denied, demonstrating the reliability of the Bible. His desire is to prove to his readers that the Bible is absolutely foundational to their faith, and is the authoritative Word of God. His counsel for those seeking Absolute Truth among the many voices of the world: Dig deeper into the Word of God for There is the Voice of God.

Book The Eye Voice Span

Download or read book The Eye Voice Span written by Harry Levin and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 1979-11-01 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eye-voice span is the distance that the eye is ahead of the voice in reading aloud. (A simple experiment: try reading a page out loud. Chances are more than likely you will turn to the next page before you have said the final words on the page you are vocalizing.) Although this phenomenon has been studied for some eighty years, researchers have only recently begun using it as an important indication of the nature of the reading process. This professional monograph presents one of the most comprehensive and succinct examinations of the topic available.

Book Voice and Eye in Faulkner s Fiction

Download or read book Voice and Eye in Faulkner s Fiction written by Hugh M. Ruppersburg and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2008-11-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hugh M. Ruppersburg examines the use of narrative viewpoint and structure in four representative novels by William Faulkner: Light in August, Pylon, Requiem for a Nun, and Absalom, Absalom! In his discussion of these four works he refers frequently, and often at length, to Faulkner's other novels and stories, so that the book offers a comprehensive examination of the narrative principle that underlie Faulkner's literary achievement. Ruppersburg shows how the Nobel Prize-winning novelist employed a number of elements to guarantee the impersonality of his fiction--how he built his novels primarily around the speech and thoughts of his characters. The absence of a judgmental authorial or narrational voice, says Ruppersburg, compels the reader to reach his own judgment concerning the behavior of these characters as well as the meaning and value of the fiction. By fusing a number of individual perspectives into a composite perspective, Faulkner gives the community itself a voice. He also uses narrative viewpoint to dramatize the individual's search for identity and the nature of truth, time, history, and human consciousness. Most significantly, the author says, Faulkner's manipulation of character perspective forces the reader to participate in the narrative process on the same level as that of the fictional characters. Voice and Eye in Faulkner's Fiction is primarily intended for the literature teacher and specialist, but it is directed as well to all readers curious about Faulkner's methods and the ways in which his novels work.
