Book The Visit to My Great Great Grandfather

Download or read book The Visit to My Great Great Grandfather written by Pamela A. Frucci and published by Xlibris Us. This book was released on 2009-07-17 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emily C. Frucci and her grandmother Pamela A. Frucci both grew up on Grosse Ile, Michigan. Pam's mother, Bernie Marsh, told her stories about her father Sheridan Howard growing up in Mendon, Michigan and she shared these stories with Emily. When Pam heard that Sarah Stewart and David Small, noted children's books author and illustrator, lived in Mendon, she wrote to them suggesting they do a children's book about her grandfather and his identical twin brother Sherman growing up in Mendon and retell some of those delightful stories she'd heard about their childhood. They suggested that Pam write the book. It seemed more logical to Pam that her granddaughter Emily should write the book. Emily was seven at that time. When her great great grandpa was seven, he learned to play a cigar box violin. Thus A Visit to My Great Great Grandpa, a collaboration between Emily and her Grandma Pam. Emily is going into fi fth grade at Parke Lane Elementary on Grosse Ile. She's an active sports-minded young lady, takes piano lessons, and loves to read. Her father Jay and mother Lisa both grew up on the Island where they live with their three daughters Emily,10, Libby,8, and Katie,5. Grandma Pam is a retired teacher who taught English, French, drama, and journalism in high school and physical education in grades fi rst through twelfth. She is also active in her community and was co-founder and editor of The Ile Camera, the community newspaper, at age 13.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Circle of Fire (formerly published as Prayers: A Communion With Our Creator) Ruiz inspires us to enter into a new and loving relationship with ourselves, with our fellow humans, and with all of creation. Through a selection of beautiful essays, prayers, and guided meditations, Ruiz prepares our minds for a new way of seeing life, and opens our hearts to find our way back to our birthright: heaven on earth. The result is a life lived in joy, harmony, and contentment. In my teachings, "The Circle of Fire" ceremony celebrates the most important day of our lives: the day when we merge with the fire of our spirit, and return to our own divinity. This is the day when we recover the awareness of what we really are, and make the choice to live in communion with that force of creation we call "Life" or "God." From that day forward, we live with unconditional love in our hearts for ourselves, for life, for everything in creation. This book, first published in 2001 as "Prayers: A Communion with Our Creator," will remind you of what you really are. It has always been my favorite book, and now in honor of my favorite prayer, it has been appropriately renamed "The Circle of Fire." -- don Miguel Ruiz

Book The Perfect Nazi

Download or read book The Perfect Nazi written by Martin Davidson and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-03-31 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if you found out that your grandfather had been a Nazi SS officer? This is the confession that Martin Davidson received from his mother upon the death of demanding, magnetic grandfather Bruno Langbehn. The Perfect Nazi is Davidson's exploration of his family's darkest secret. As Davidson dove into his research, drawing on an astonishing cache of personal documents as well as eyewitness accounts of this historical period, he learned that Bruno's story moved lock-step in time with the rise and fall of the Nazi party: from his upbringing in a fiercely military environment amid the aftermath of World War I, to his joining the Nazi party in 1926 at the age of nineteen, more than six years before Hitler came to power, to his postwar involvement with the Werewolves, the gang of SS stalwarts who vowed to keep on after the defeat of Nazism. Davidson realized that his grandfather was in many ways the "perfect Nazi," his individual experiences emblematic of the generation of Germans who would plunge the world into such darkness. But he also realized that every fact he uncovered was a terrible truth he himself would have to come to terms with...

Download or read book Growing up with my Great Great Grandfather s ghost written by Gerald J Stalter and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: August 29, 1924, somewhere after ten in the evening was the last time that Alexander C. Totten was last seen alive. Until one night when I was eight, when I woke to him sitting at the end of my bed. Growing up listening to what the adults would talk about and gathering what paper trail was left behind made me question. For a man who was found dead hours after seeing his wife. Who ran off on him and the kids two and a half months before. Trying to get her to come back to be a family again. Why wouldn't I question if he indeed killed himself, or was he helped with his choice? There was a reason four generations kept that question alive instead of letting it be buried alongside him. There was a bigger reason my great grandmother, when throwing that hand full of dirt on his coffin, felt like there was something off. Follow me, Gerald J. Stalter on my journey as I take my ghostly experiences with my 2x great grandfather's ghost. Helping me understand the clues left behind to finally put his story together. He chose to lead me to the truth. Why not share it? It's true what they say! It comes back to haunt you.

Book Happiness Is a Choice You Make

Download or read book Happiness Is a Choice You Make written by John Leland and published by Sarah Crichton Books. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times Bestseller! An extraordinary look at what it means to grow old and a heartening guide to well-being, Happiness Is a Choice You Make weaves together the stories and wisdom of six New Yorkers who number among the “oldest old”— those eighty-five and up. In 2015, when the award-winning journalist John Leland set out on behalf of The New York Times to meet members of America’s fastest-growing age group, he anticipated learning of challenges, of loneliness, and of the deterioration of body, mind, and quality of life. But the elders he met took him in an entirely different direction. Despite disparate backgrounds and circumstances, they each lived with a surprising lightness and contentment. The reality Leland encountered upended contemporary notions of aging, revealing the late stages of life as unexpectedly rich and the elderly as incomparably wise. Happiness Is a Choice You Make is an enduring collection of lessons that emphasizes, above all, the extraordinary influence we wield over the quality of our lives. With humility, heart, and wit, Leland has crafted a sophisticated and necessary reflection on how to “live better”—informed by those who have mastered the art.

Book Channel Kindness Stories of Kindness and Community

Download or read book Channel Kindness Stories of Kindness and Community written by Born This Way Foundation Reporters and published by Feiwel & Friends. This book was released on 2020-09-22 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times Bestseller For Lady Gaga, kindness is the driving force behind everything she says and does. The quiet power of kindness can change the way we view one another, our communities, and even ourselves. She embodies this mission, and through her work, brings more kindness into our world every single day. Lady Gaga has always believed in the importance of being yourself, being kind to yourself, and being kind to others, no matter who they are or where they come from. With that sentiment in mind, she and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, founded Born This Way Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making the world a kinder and braver place. Through the years, they've collected stories of kindness, bravery and resilience from young people all over the world, proving that kindness truly is the universal language. And now, we invite you to read these stories and follow along as each and every young author finds their voice just as Lady Gaga has found hers. Within these pages, you’ll meet young changemakers who found their inner strength, who prevailed in the face of bullies, who started their own social movements, who decided to break through the mental health stigma and share how they felt, who created safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth, and who have embraced kindness with every fiber of their being by helping others without the expectation of anything in return. In one story, you’ll read about a young person with an autoimmune disease, who after being bullied at school, learned how to practice self-love and started an organization with the mission of educating others about the importance of self-love, too; and in another story, you’ll meet a young person who decided to start a movement to help eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraged others to talk about their feelings openly and honestly, a reminder that kindness and mental wellness go hand in hand. Not only were we moved by these individual acts of kindness, but we were also touched by the many stories of organizations, neighborhoods, and entire communities that fully dedicated themselves to helping those in need and found new, innovative ways to make our world a kinder and braver place. Individually and collectively, these stories prove that kindness not only saves lives but builds community. Kindness is inclusion, it is pride, it is empathy, it is compassion, it is self-respect and it is the guiding light to love. Kindness is always transformational, and its never-ending ripples result in even more kind acts that can change our lives, our communities, and our world.

Book My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me A Black Woman Discovers Her Family s Nazi Past

Download or read book My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me A Black Woman Discovers Her Family s Nazi Past written by Nikola Sellmair and published by The Experiment, LLC. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback: The New York Times bestselling memoir hailed as “unforgettable” (Publishers Weekly) and “a stunning memoir of cultural trauma and personal identity” (Booklist). At age 38, Jennifer Teege happened to pluck a library book from the shelf—and discovered a horrifying fact: Her grandfather was Amon Goeth, the vicious Nazi commandant depicted in Schindler’s List. Reviled as the “butcher of Plaszów,” Goeth was executed in 1946. The more Teege learned about him, the more certain she became: If her grandfather had met her—a black woman—he would have killed her. Teege’s discovery sends her into a severe depression—and fills her with questions: Why did her birth mother withhold this chilling secret? How could her grandmother have loved a mass murderer? Can evil be inherited? Teege’s story is cowritten by Nikola Sellmair, who also adds historical context and insight from Teege’s family and friends, in an interwoven narrative. Ultimately, Teege’s search for the truth leads her, step by step, to the possibility of her own liberation.
