Download or read book Orifice Plates and Venturi Tubes written by Michael Reader-Harris and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-29 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives the background to differential-pressure flow measurement and goes through the requirements explaining the reason for them. For those who want to use an orifice plate or a Venturi tube the standard ISO 5167 and its associated Technical Reports give the instructions required. However, they rarely tell the users why they should follow certain instructions. This book helps users of the ISO standards for orifice plates and Venturi tubes to understand the reasons why the standards are as they are, to apply them effectively, and to understand the consequences of deviations from the standards.
Download or read book Electromagnetic Scattering and its Applications written by L. P. Bayvel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whenever a wave encounters an obstacle a number of processes occur. For large objects we envisage reflection and transmission with refraction and, in ·many cases, absorption. These phenomena can be described with the aid of ray tracing or geometrical optics, but they do not completely describe the interaction. Diffraction also occurs, and this can only be described by the properties of waves, wave optics. When the object is less than or of the order of the wavelength these processes cannot be so simply understood. The whole interaction is governed by wave optics, and the interactions are lumped together under the heading 'scattering'. Associated with the above there may be changes in frequency of the wave. This may arise due to the Doppler effect if the obstacle is moving or changing in time in any way. Also there can be changes in the energy of the object which must be matched by the wave, such as, for example, in the Raman effect.
Download or read book Case Studies in Fluid Mechanics with Sensitivities to Governing Variables written by M. Kemal Atesmen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covers a wide range of practical fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer problems This book covers the many issues that occur in practical fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer, and examines the basic laws (the conservation of matter, conservation of momentum, conservation of energy, and the second law of thermodynamics) of these areas. It offers problem solutions that start with simplifying engineering assumptions and then identifies the governing equations and dependent and independent variables. When solutions to basic equations are not possible, the book utilizes historical experimental studies. It also looks at determining appropriate thermo-physical properties of the fluid under investigation, and covers solutions to governing equations with experimental studies. Case Studies in Fluid Mechanics with Sensitivities to Governing Variables offers chapters on: draining fluid from a tank; vertical rise of a weather balloon; wind drag forces on people; Venturi meter; fluid’s surface shape in a rotating cylindrical tank; range of an aircraft; designing a water clock; water turbine under a dam; centrifugal separation of particles; ideal gas flow in nozzles and diffusers; water supply from a lake to a factory; convection mass transfer through air-water interface; heating a room by natural convection; condensation on the surface of a vertical plate in laminar flow regime; bubble rise in a glass of beer; and more. Covers a broad spectrum of problems in practical fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer Examines the basic laws of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and mass transfer Presents solutions to governing equations with experimental studies Case Studies in Fluid Mechanics with Sensitivities to Governing Variables will appeal to engineers working in thermo-physical sciences and graduate students in mechanical engineering.

Download or read book Pharmaceutical Engineering written by K Sambamurthy and published by New Age International. This book was released on 2007 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It Is Well Known That The Applications Of Unit Operations Like Heat Transfer, Evaporation, Extraction, Mixing, Filtration And A Host Of Others Are Quite Common In The Pharmaceutical Industry, Be It In The Production Of Synthetic Drugs, Biological And Microbiological Products Or In The Manufacture Of Pharmaceutical Formulations. As Such Anyone Who Is To Look After These Manufacturing Operations Must Be Quite Knowledgeable With The Theoretical And Equipment Aspects Involved In The Relevant Unit Operations.Since A Major Involvement Of The Pharmacy Graduates Lies In The Numerous Manufacturing Operations Mentioned Above, It Is Very Much Necessary That The Subject Is Taught With A Pharmacy Orientation. There Is No Book So Far Which Has Achieved This. The Existing Books On Unit Operations Give Extensive Theory And Also Deal With A Lot Of Equipment Not Employed In The Pharmaceutical Industry. Due To A Lack Of A Pharmacy-Oriented Book In This Area, The Students And The Teachers Are Facing Difficulties In Many Ways. The Present Book Is The First One Of Its Kind On Pharmaceutical Engineering. The Special Features Of This Book Are As Follows: It Includes Theoretical And Equipment Aspects Relevant To Thepharmaceutical Industry And That Too To The Extent Needed For Pharmacy Graduates And Examples From Pharmaceutical Industry Are Quoted Extensively; Solutions To A Number Of Simpler Numerical Problems Are Given. At The End Of Each Chapter, A Large Number Of Questions, Both Theoretical And Numerical, Are Given. There Is Therefore No Doubt That The Book Will Be Of Great Use Not Only To The Students But Also To The Teachers In The Subject In India And Abroad As Well.
