This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Study of the Vapor Pressure of Aqueous Solutions of Mannite by an Improved Static Method: Dissertation Submitted to the Board of University Studies of the Johns Hopkins University in Conformity With the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy In such a respect it is entirely analogous to the boiling and freezing point of a solution and.to its conductivity and osmotic pressure. The value of these properties in the determination of the molecular Weight, and, in the case of electrolytes, of the dissociation, is too well-known to need amplification. That their value, however, is dependent on the accuracy With which they can be determined 18 also self evident. The boiling - point method is really a dynamic meth cd of measuring vapor pressure. The objection to both the boiling-point and freezing-point methods is that they are subject to appreciable correction factors for the constant errors. The enormous difficulty in measuring osmotic pres sure makes it incapable of general application, While the conductivity method is least accurate in the region of high concentrations, Where the constant errors in measuring vapor pressure_are least. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Study of the Vapor Pressure of Aqueous Solutions of Potassium Chloride at 20c: Dissertation Submitted to the Board of University Studies of the Johns Hopkins University in Conformity With the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy AT 80c. Ihile continuing the study of the vapor pressure of aqueous solutions by the improved static method devised by Frazer and Lovelace} it was found that the process originally employed for the removal of air from the solutions was unsatisfactory both from the standpoint of completeness and of the time consumed. To overcome these objections it seemed desirable to prepare the solutions in vacuo, i.s., mix the air free constituents in a vacuum, or else boil the solutions untill all air is expelled, sealing the container while filled with steam. On account of the instability of some solutions at boiling temperatures. It was decided to develop the first method mentioned above which is herein later described in detail. The work with solutions thus prepared so nearly air free has revealed the possibility that the former measurements may be unreliable due to traces of air in the solutions. While the statement is made in the reports of former work that no readings of the vapor pressure lowering were made until the vcleod gauge showed a residual air pressure of less than mm after a 24-hour expansion. Error. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Book A Study of the Vapor Pressure and Osmotic Pressure of Aqueous Solutions of Mannite at Twenty Degrees Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Study of the Vapor Pressure and Osmotic Pressure of Aqueous Solutions of Mannite at Twenty Degrees Classic Reprint written by Thomas Hunton Rogers and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Study of the Vapor Pressure and Osmotic Pressure of Aqueous Solutions of Mannite at Twenty Degrees The superiority of the vapor pressurefmethod of invesa tigating the colligative properties of solutions is largely recognized. In addition to the fact that any temperature is available, which is not the case in cryoscopic work, the value of the vapor pressure of a solution, once determined, is affect ed by hardly any conditioning factors. The fundamental impor tance of a knowledge of the vapor pressure of solutions is ii lustrated by the frequent occurence of such a term in thermody dynamic formulae. This is because the vapor pressure of a per feet solution is a measure of what has been called its escaping tendency. Book A Differential Dynamic Method for the Accurate Determination of Relative Vapor Pressure Lowering

Download or read book A Differential Dynamic Method for the Accurate Determination of Relative Vapor Pressure Lowering written by Hugh Byron Gordon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Differential, Dynamic Method for the Accurate Determination of Relative Vapor-Pressure Lowering: Thesis In the study of solutions to determine the molecular condition of the solute, any of the colligative properties, osmotic pressure, boiling point elevation, freezing-point depression, or vapor pressure lowering, may be employed. For this purpose the osmotic pressure is of very little assistance because satisfactory semi-permeable membranes have, as yet, been prepared for only one or two solutes. The boiling-point raising is difficult to measure with sufficient accuracy because of its variation with changes in atmospheric pressure, and, in the case of aqueous solutions, because the molar boiling point elevation is small. It has the additional disadvantage that the temperature and concentration change at the same time. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Use of Services for Family Planning and Infertility United States 1982

Download or read book Use of Services for Family Planning and Infertility United States 1982 written by Gerry E. Hendershot and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 982 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1982 statistics on the use of family planning and infertility services presented in this report are preliminary results from Cycle III of the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics. Data were collected through personal interviews with a multistage area probability sample of 7969 women aged 15-44. A detailed series of questions was asked to obtain relatively complete estimates of the extent and type of family planning services received. Statistics on family planning services are limited to women who were able to conceive 3 years before the interview date. Overall, 79% of currently mrried nonsterile women reported using some type of family planning service during the previous 3 years. There were no statistically significant differences between white (79%), black (75%) or Hispanic (77%) wives, or between the 2 income groups. The 1982 survey questions were more comprehensive than those of earlier cycles of the survey. The annual rate of visits for family planning services in 1982 was 1077 visits /1000 women. Teenagers had the highest annual visit rate (1581/1000) of any age group for all sources of family planning services combined. Visit rates declined sharply with age from 1447 at ages 15-24 to 479 at ages 35-44. Similar declines with age also were found in the visit rates for white and black women separately. Nevertheless, the annual visit rate for black women (1334/1000) was significantly higher than that for white women (1033). The highest overall visit rate was for black women 15-19 years of age (1867/1000). Nearly 2/3 of all family planning visits were to private medical sources. Teenagers of all races had higher family planning service visit rates to clinics than to private medical sources, as did black women age 15-24. White women age 20 and older had higher visit rates to private medical services than to clinics. Never married women had higher visit rates to clinics than currently or formerly married women. Data were also collected in 1982 on use of medical services for infertility by women who had difficulty in conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term. About 1 million ever married women had 1 or more infertility visits in the 12 months before the interview. During the 3 years before interview, about 1.9 million women had infertility visits. For all ever married women, as well as for white and black women separately, infertility services were more likely to be secured from private medical sources than from clinics. The survey design, reliability of the estimates and the terms used are explained in the technical notes.

Book Surfactants and Polymers in Aqueous Solution

Download or read book Surfactants and Polymers in Aqueous Solution written by Krister Holmberg and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2002-11-22 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many industrial formulations such as detergents, paints, foodstuff and cosmetics contain both surfactants and polymers and their interaction govern many of the properties. This book is unique in that it discusses the solution chemistry of both surfactants and polymers and also the interactions between the two. The book, which is based on successful courses given by the authors since 1992, is a revised and extended version of the first edition that became a market success with six reprints since 1998. Surfactants and Polymers in Aqueous Solution is broad in scope, providing both theoretical insights and practical help for those active in the area. This book contains a thorough discussion of surfactant types and gives information of main routes of preparation. A chapter on novel surfactants has been included in the new edition. Physicochemical phenomena such as self-assembly in solution, adsorption, gel formation and foaming are discussed in detail. Particular attention is paid to the solution behaviour of surfactants and polymers containing polyoxyethylene chains. Surface active polymers are presented and their interaction with surfactants is a core topic of the book. Protein-surfactant interaction is also important and a new chapter deals with this issue. Microemulsions are treated in depth and several important application such as detergency and their use as media for chemical reactions are presented. Emulsions and the choice of emulsifier is discussed in some detail. The new edition also contains chapters on rheology and wetting. Surfactants and Polymers in Aqueous Solution is aimed at those dealing with surface chemistry research at universities and with surfactant formulation in industry.
