Book The Value of Intangible Assets and the Human Capital Disclosure of companies specializing in IT

Download or read book The Value of Intangible Assets and the Human Capital Disclosure of companies specializing in IT written by Olga Maria Stefania Cucaro and published by Olga Maria stefania Cucaro. This book was released on 2017-08-23 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Value of Intangibles Assets and the Human Capital Disclosure of companies specializing in IT Consulting, Application & Internet Software and Data Processing. A Cross-Country Comparison Italy-England is a work born of the in depth study of the IC disclosure of Italian companies and the curiosity of the comparison with British companies. Voluntary disclosure of intangible resources reduces information asymmetry and the cost of capital (Botosan, 1997; Bojelbene M. A. and Affes Habib, 2013) and this encourages managers to increase this communication. The high-tech companies give much importance to intangible resources, particularly human resources, this observation led to the idea of studying the communication of human capital in the context of such companies. With the passing of time we see a greater interest on the part of company management to human capital with respect to the structural capital that has always been the subject of corporate communications.

Book Human capital as an essential and measurable asset

Download or read book Human capital as an essential and measurable asset written by Junaid Javaid and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: C+, University of Bedfordshire, course: MSc Finance & Business Management, language: English, abstract: This AMP is carried out as a research toward finding and relating the company’s Human Capital with its desired performance. It has also suggested the method by which the company can reliably reports its Human Capital as the strongest company’s asset in its financial statements. From the Background context of given issue the evidence looks prominent and right that in the current scenario Human Capital is considered to be as the key success factor. The Literature Review section, in relation to the definition of Human Capital, the arguments of both Becker (1993) and Davenport (1999) makes sense and also looks generous. Becker (1993) defined Human Capital as a composition of four characteristics (Credentials, Reputation, Personality and Appearance). While on the other side, Davenport (1999) made a figure of by combining all aspects (Employee effort, behaviour, ability & time) together to give final shape to undergoing definition. In relations to the measurement methods of Human Capital, there are many Scholars who came forwards and proposed different methods. It has been regarded and acknowledged that work of certain Authors: Kaplan & Norton (1992), Monti-Belkaou & Riahi-Belkaoui (1995), Brown (1999) and Weiss (1999) is prominent. Out of these four studies Monti-Belkaou & Riahi-Belkaoui (1995) took the fame as their model have both aspect: practical implementation and recognition of value added by the company’s demployed Human Capital in its overall financial performance and operational excellence. The objectives of this AMP have been achieved. From the models like Balanced Scorecard and Kaplan’s Seven Step Framework and also from the case studies like Huselid, et al (1997) and Delery & Doty, (1996), it has been cleared and understood that the company’s Human Capital has implications on its business performance (success). From the studies like Kaplan & Norton (1992), Monti-Belkaou & Riahi-Belkaoui (1995), Brown (1999) and Weiss (1999), it has illustrated that these are the certain methods by which the company could include Human Capital as the company’s most significant in its financial reporting. Out of these four studies, Monti-Belkaou & Riahi-Belkaoui (1995) took the fame. So the need of an hour is to select it as the common framework for the reporting of Human Capital as the company’s most powerful assets.

Book The Economic Importance of Intangible Assets

Download or read book The Economic Importance of Intangible Assets written by Patrizio Bianchi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a two-year interdisciplinary research programme named PRISM (Policy making, Reporting and measuring, Intangibles, Skills development and Management), financed by the European Commission and aimed both at understanding better how these assets are created and developed and what the policy implications of their growing importance in economies are. The book focuses on the policy issues raised by the increasing importance of intangible assets in a country's growth and competitiveness. The main idea is that the value of intangible assets, which is imperfectly captured by current economic indicators and imperfectly formalized in economic theory, lies in their being the cumulative elements that keep the economy together - the glue of the system. This argument leads to the focus on networks and social capital as drivers of the development of intangible assets and is illustrated by the case of EU innovation and knowledge diffusion policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intangible assets-which include computer software, research and development (R&D), intellectual property, workforce training, and spending to raise the efficiency and brand identification of firms-comprise a subset of services, which, in turn, accounts for three-quarters of all economic activity. Increasingly, intangibles are a principal driver of the competitiveness of U.S.-based firms, economic growth, and opportunities for U.S. workers. Yet, despite these developments, many intangible assets are not reported by companies, and, in the national economic accounts, they are treated as expenses rather than investments. On June 23, 2008, a workshop was held to examine measurement of intangibles and their role in the U.S. and global economies. The workshop, summarized in the present volume, included discussions of a range of policy-relevant topics, including: what intangibles are and how they work; the variety and scale of emerging markets in intangibles; and what the government's role should be in supporting markets and promoting investment in intangibles.

Book Human Capital as Key Factor for Business Success The Importance of Human Capital

Download or read book Human Capital as Key Factor for Business Success The Importance of Human Capital written by David Baur and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Essen, language: English, abstract: This paper examines the questions of how important human capital is for business success. With this intention it is first defined what human capital is before there are evaluated several measurement approaches concerning the valuation of human capital in a company. Consequently, embedded into a case study, the value of this asset is calculated with the Lev & Schwartz model at an Indian tech company called Infosys technology limited. As a result of the case study it is pictured that human capital and the returns of Infosys are highly correlated, which underlines the hypothesis that human capital is a key factor for business success. To generalise the stated findings there is also a view on a macro economical level. The main result of this paper is that human capital actually can be said to be the most important aspect for business success. In a last part the author criticises that many companies do not pay enough attention at human capital.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intangibles are harder to measure, harder to quantify, often more difficult to manage, evaluate, and account for than tangible assets. There is no common language for sharing information about intangible sources of value, and the language used tends to be descriptive rather than quantitative and concrete. Unseen Wealth stresses the importance of developing standards for identifying, measuring, and accounting for intangible assets, and recommends actions to government and business for improving the quality and quantity of available information about intangible investments. The book articulates a three-pronged set of reforms to help companies construct better business and reporting models, improve the quality of financial reporting, and clarify intellectual property right laws. Unseen Wealth was developed by the Brookings Task Force on Intangibles, which includes business leaders, consultants, accounting professionals, economists, intellectual property lawyers, and policy analysts.

Book Factors Explaining the Level of Voluntary Human Capital Disclosure in the Brazilian Capital Market

Download or read book Factors Explaining the Level of Voluntary Human Capital Disclosure in the Brazilian Capital Market written by Clea Beatriz Macagnan and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a study on factors explaining the level of voluntary human capital information in companies with shares in the Brazilian stock exchange. Assuming the existence of information asymmetry between managers and shareholders, agency theory states that disclosure might lead to a reduction in agency costs. The proprietary costs theory indicates that information disclosure might increase the company's costs. According to these theories, the likelihood that the managers will voluntarily disclose information depends on certain factors that are characteristic of the company. Understanding the disclosure of information regarding intangible assets, specifically human capital, has strategic relevance for enterprises because these features, although not always recorded in accounting, represent a competitive business edge in the current economy.

Book Making Sense of Intellectual Capital

Download or read book Making Sense of Intellectual Capital written by Daniel Andriessen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-02-18 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Drucker has introduced us all to the knowledge era, where knowledge is the primary resource and intangibles (intellectual capital resources and assets) are now largely recognized as the most important sources of organizations' competitive advantage. With the recognition of the importance of Intangibles comes the problem of how to properly identify them and assign them a value within the corporation. This is an area of concern in 5 fields: 1) accounting and financial reporting, 2) performance measurement and management, 3) valuation in the finance field, 4) the Human Resources field in terms of management, strategy, and planning, and 5) Intellectual Capital. Over the past eight years, over 25 methods have been proposed for the valuation of intangibles coming out of these 5 fields. In this book, Andriessen evaluates 25 existing methods of intangible valuation according to highly developed criteria. In performing his evaluations, Andriessen synthesizes the state of the art research from these fields based on extensive research. He then presents his own method for valuing intangibles, which he began developing and testing as a Senior Manager at KPMG Knowledge Advisory Services in The Netherlands. He relates six case studies in which this method was tested in actual companies, carefully reviews the results of his tests, and then concludes by offering a new and improved method for valuing intangibles in his Weightless Wealth Toolkit, a complete step-by-step process for identifying, valuing, and managing Intangibles to help managers operate successfully in the Intangible Economy.

Book Valuing human and social capital

Download or read book Valuing human and social capital written by Florian Voigt and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 2,3, European Business School - International University Schloß Reichartshausen Oestrich-Winkel, course: Seminar Finance & Banking, language: English, abstract: Industries and countries experience a shift from manufacturing to service and techno logy based systems. Intangible assets like human and social capital become relatively important drivers of value. Furthermore, new accounting standards create a need for a standardized valuation of intangibles. The raise of hidden values develops into an important issue especially in business combinations. Financial statements provide very few information about human or social capital, but shareholders and stakeholders become more interested in these information. When a company acquires another, a single price is paid for a bundle of assets. The price reflects the firm value as a whole at a specific date, but the particular values of the individual assets are seldom transparent. Furthermore, intangibles receive 50% to 70% of an average firm’s annual investments, but the possible achievements are not shown in the balance sheet. Thought, it is crucial to company success. This paper will analyze different methods for valuing human and social capital. Different approaches will be described and the suitability for valuation will be evaluated. The focus will be on a company’s human and social capital, because the value of personnel human and social will not contribute to the problem solving.

Book Intellectual Capital in Organizations

Download or read book Intellectual Capital in Organizations written by Patricia Ordoñez de Pablos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a global competitive economic environment, resources that are scarce or irreplicable are a source of sustained competitive advantage for companies and organizations. Knowledge-based resources are a major and increasing driver of long term competitive advantage. Most accounting standards however do not allow for knowledge-based resource calculations, including the most important of these, intellectual capital. Intellectual capital is the collective knowledge, documented and otherwise, of individuals in an organization. In the absence of accounting standards to numerically evaluate intellectual capital, some institutions have devised their own reports and statements. But why should companies, universities, and research centers measure these resources? How are intellectual capital statements built? How does one set targets, and what indicators should they include? This book reviews the development of the field of intellectual capital reporting, including core concepts, latest developments, the main components of intellectual capital, how a statement is built, and key indicators of each component. It further analyzes experiences from a variety of pioneering companies and institutions around the globe in measuring intellectual capital, including case studies from educational and research institutions, and provides crucial transnational comparisons. Authors Ordóñez de Pablos and Edvinsson examine the challenges and next steps for the harmonization of intellectual capital reports, consider the creation of a special international agency for intellectual capital reporting standards, and evaluate the weaknesses of current standards and how they might be overcome.
