Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sacred Playgrounds explores the wisdom of camping ministry for Christian education and faith formation, examining its rich history and fundamental characteristics with compelling stories, groundbreaking research, and theological grounding. Christian summer camp is an integral part of the ecology of faith formation in North America, though it has received surprisingly little attention in the scholarly community until now. Camping ministry is often dismissed as simple fun and games or a brief spiritual high that does not last. However, camp experiences often serve as deeply relational and immersive faith experiences that have lasting impacts on participants. Five fundamental characteristics combine dynamically in the effective camp experience: participatory, faith-centered, safe space, relational, and unplugged from home. Together, they open the space for participants to consider new understandings of God, to have time for deep self-reflection, and to build intentional Christian community. These camp experiences are essential components in a larger ecology of faith formation, including the home and congregation. The insight and evidence presented in this book demonstrate that the contributions of camping ministry must be taken seriously among scholars, Christian educators, and ministry professionals.

Download or read book Against the Tide written by Carl Herbster and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young people are surrounded by media militantly attacking biblical virtue and values. The goal of Christian education is still to "present every man perfect in Christ," but postmodernism declares that there is no one right way to live. In the midst of this conflict, many Christian school leaders are surrendering, lowering their expectations in order to bring in more students, tolerating an atmosphere which works against the basic purpose for which the schools were founded. Against the Tide calls the Christian education movement back to its mission. The ideas offered in this book are thoroughly practical. The authors have effectively implemented these principles in their Christian schools. More important, these ideas are thoroughly biblical in their understanding of the role of Christian education and, in particular, of the Christian school, in helping parents to develop Christlike character in young people.

This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is developed from studies about the principles of the Christian Lutheran education and the administration of confessional schools in the context of the pedagogic ideas in the south of Brazil (1824-1997). This subject is of general interest, as it can be verified by the selection of articles published in the magazines of the Lutheran Churches in Brazil. This administration encompasses the director, the professor, and the parents, so that they may work together in search for a clear view of the mission, that is, the meaning of the existence of a confessional school. The aims of this research is to clarify questions in the History of Education, as well as in the administration of private and confessional schools. The following problem is raised: What are the Christian principles and the pedagogic tendencies and approaches which orient the administration of Lutheran confessional schools in south Brazil (1824-1997)? A survey of the publications of IELB (Igreja Evangélica Luterana do Brasil) and of IECLB (Igreja Evangélica de Confissão Luterana do Brasil), from 1824 to 1997. The year of 1824 was chosen because that year is considered, because of the German immigration, as the beginning of the arrival of the Lutheran ideas in Brazil. Max Weber?s comprehensive method is used because is adequate for the analysis. One may affirm that the social action management in a Lutheran confessional school continues to be the quest to make the Christian principles concrete.
