Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Valley of Decision, Vol. 1: A Novel It was very still in the small neglected chapel. The noises of the farm came faintly through closed doors - voices shouting at the oxen in the lower fields, the querulous bark of the old house-dog, and Filomena's angry calls to the little white-faced foundling in the kitchen. The February day was closing, and a ray of sunshine, slanting through a slit in the chapel-wall, brought out the vision of a pale haloed head floating against the dusky background of the chancel like a water-lily on its leaf. The face was that of the saint of Assisi - a sunken ravaged countenance, lit with an ecstasy of suffering that seemed not so much to reflect the anguish of the Christ at whose feet the saint knelt as the mute pain of all poor downtrodden folk on earth. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The books of the twelve Minor Prophets are some of the least studied by Christians today, but they contain some of the great themes of Scripture, such as God's mercy and judgment, His covenant with Israel, the day of the Lord, and the coming of the Messiah. Arguing for a canonical unity that recognizes the Minor Prophets as one cohesive composition, Michael Shepherd explains the historical meaning of each verse of the twelve books and also provides guidance for application and preaching. Pastors, teachers, and serious students of Scripture will find a wealth of insights for understanding the Minor Prophets. - from publisher.

Book excerpt: Here is a man contemplating his life. "Is this all there is? There must be more! Work eat, work, eat, and work sleep eat. What am I missing? Notice he is in a valley with mountains barriers on either side. He is looking at the dark sky in front of him as if he is looking for God. But all he has to do is turn around to change his boring life as Jesus' light is there. If he was aware all he need do turn his life around (repent) and become a new creature. But as you can see no one is there to share the gospel. Without spiritual information his decision will be flawed. A few gospel insights could affect his decision for Good. Is it too much to ask Christian's to share Jesus' gospel with the lost?

Book Laodicea Her Authority Organization and Destiny

Download or read book Laodicea Her Authority Organization and Destiny written by Vernon C. Sparks and published by Digital Inspiration. This book was released on 2013-01-26 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: —Protestant Reformation's Final Movement / God's End Time Church— In Revelation 3:14-21, God’s end time church is named Laodicea. In those verses, His remnant people are described as having the tendency to evaluate their spiritual condition, and work, at a much higher quality than is Christ’s judgment of it. He states that the Laodicean church, though entrusted with the knowledge of His last warning messages for the world are spiritually “wretched,” “miserable,” “poor,” “blind,” and “naked.” (verse 17). Matthew 25:1-13 is the parable of the ten virgins waiting to attend a wedding feast. In this account Jesus is also describing His remnant people. Christ’s story says that “while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.” (verse 5). This present volume is a Bible and Spirit of Prophecy study regarding the form of, and reasons why, Christ brought His end time people into a highly organized movement. It also describes how Christ’s ordained methods of operating His organization tend to be abused, and even ignored. It explains how His people tend to operate Christ’s publishing, educational, health, and even ministerial work more in harmony with the wisdom and wishes of man and the world than with the clear directives of the Lord whom we claim to be serving. But, all is not gloom and doom. There is counsel as to how to revive from the Laodicean condition. This present volume goes into detail as to what Christ will do to awaken His people. It presents the inspired explanations as to how His remnant will be “shaken” into the condition necessary for Him to be able to pour out upon them the Latter Rain to empower and equip them to give the Loud Cry and thus finish His work upon this earth. Entire chapters are dedicated to the divine instructions regarding the importance of not running ahead of, but cooperating with, Christ in these important dealings with His people. This book was released on 2015-11-10 with total page 1209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Library of America presents the first volume in a landmark two-volume collector's edition of the incomparable stories of an American master Born into an upper-class New York family, Edith Wharton broke with convention and became a professional writer, earning an enduring place as the grande dame of American letters. This Library of America collection (along with its companion volume, Collected Stories: 1911–1937) presents the finest of Wharton's achievement in short fiction, drawn from the more than eighty stories she published over the course of her career. Opening with her first published story—the charming "Mrs. Manstey's View," about a disruption in the life of an elderly apartment-dweller—this first of two volumes presents a writer, already at the height of her powers, beginning to explore the concerns of a lifetime. In "Souls Belated," two lovers attempt to escape the consequences of their adultery—a subject to which Wharton returns throughout her career. In "The Mission of Jane" (about a remarkable adopted child) and "The Pelican" (about an itinerant lecturer), she discovers her gift for social and cultural satire. Perhaps the finest of her ghost stories, "The Eyes," with its Jamesian sense of evil, is also included, along with two novella-length works, "The Touchstone" and "Sanctuary," revealing the dazzling range of Wharton's fictive imagination. Also included in this edition are a chronology of Wharton's life, explanatory notes, and an essay on the texts. LIBRARY OF AMERICA is an independent nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1979 to preserve our nation’s literary heritage by publishing, and keeping permanently in print, America’s best and most significant writing. The Library of America series includes more than 300 volumes to date, authoritative editions that average 1,000 pages in length, feature cloth covers, sewn bindings, and ribbon markers, and are printed on premium acid-free paper that will last for centuries.
