Book excerpt: We have all experienced a disconnect between God's promises to us and our everyday reality. We wait, without understanding why. We want to know God's plan so that we can trust it--but God so often hides his plan so that we will trust him. What can we do in the meantime as we are waiting for an answer, a change, or a miracle? With deep compassion, Wayne Stiles helps readers understand why God makes them wait. Unpacking the Old Testament story of Joseph, Stiles shows readers how to find comfort and opportunity in the time between God's promises and his answers, revealing the perspective-altering truth that sometimes when we think we are waiting on God, he is actually waiting on us. Anyone who has felt a disconnect between God's promises and their reality, who doesn't know what God wants them to do next, or who struggles with the brokenness of their world will find in Wayne Stiles a wise and trustworthy guide to finding peace in the pauses.

This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Valley of Achor a Door of Hope, or the Grand Issues of the War: A Discourse, Delivered on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 1863 Hosea 2: 15. And I will give her the valley of Achor for a door of hope. The valley of Achor was some ten miles north of Jerusalem, and not far from Bethe], the place of Ja cob's vision. It was called Achor from the word ac/lan or which was applied to it from an incident in the travels of the Israelites, recorded in the seventh of Joshua. Here it was that Achan sinned in taking the Babylonish garment, and the Shekels of silver and the wedge of gold among the spoils of the enemy, which were denominated accursed things and for this impi ety he was stoned with stones, and then burnt to ashes, after which the wrath of God was appeased. This valley was called Achar or Achor, from the name of this man, Achan. And the word Achan itself means troubler, so that the valley was known for many gene rations, as the valley of trouble. Hence the term came to be used to describe (my position of special trial or trouble. He who was in some terrible extremity, was spoken of as being the valley of Adam. Book The Biblical Ilustrator Vol 28 Pastoral Commentary on Hosea

Download or read book The Biblical Ilustrator Vol 28 Pastoral Commentary on Hosea written by Charles Spurgeon and published by Primedia E-launch LLC. This book was released on 2013-10-06 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **This ebook version of The Biblical Illustrator - Pastoral Commentary on Hosea contains nearly 900 pages of commentary! What if Charles Spurgeon helped you prepare next Sunday’s sermon? Or what if you could talk over your preaching with Joseph Parker, Richard Baxter, Henry Ward Beecher and H. P. Liddon. Do you think it would make a difference to get the input of some of the greatest preachers who ever lived? That’s precisely what Joseph Exell had in mind when he put together the massive series of volumes called The Biblical Illustrator. In what can only be called a Herculean feat, he spent years gathering preaching notes and sermon outlines from the very best preachers of his day (in the late 1800s and early 1900s), and he did it covering every book of the Bible. And it is amazingly comprehensive. Exell approached his task by taking every verse in the Bible and seeking to discover how it has been preached in the past. Though there is plenty of exegetical material here, this is not primarily a commentary. This series is for preachers, teachers, Bible students and anyone else looking for penetrating pastoral insights from some of the all-time greats of the faith.
