Book excerpt: Felicia Culbertson Guthrie, now a professional mental health counselor in addition to being a wife, mother, and dyed-in-the-wool spanking and ass play switch, has always been convinced that her relationship with her husband, Joe, has a little element of magic in it. Now, though, she enters a world of magic and spell-casting she didn’t expect ever to experience. While Joe’s away from home on a business trip she goes to get a tattoo of his name on her backside, but the tattoo artist, substituting for her Goth friends Elle and Anna while they’re away from their shop, is an amateur practitioner of magick. He falls in love—or lust—with her and casts a spell on her marked behind in an effort to make her leave Joe and their baby and come and be be his slave girl. Worse than that, she finds out that the spell’s also tailored to effect Joe also, far away as he is on his business trip! According to the spell-casting tattooist, now Joe will be irresistible to submissives and stands a good chance of collecting a veritable harem of them to help him take care of his young son and replace Felicia in his heart and in his bed. Even though Joe doesn’t believe in magic, if our heroine and hero were never in hot water before they certainly are now—careening through Memphis, West Memphis and Las Vegas, revisiting a bunch of their earlier adventures and characters they’ve met and interacted with—but to what end?

Book excerpt: Harriet Walter, one of Britain's most esteemed Shakespearean actors, has played most of Shakespeare's women. She Speaks! is her inventive reimagining of what these women might have said, and the result is a rewarding, fun interpretation of these classic plays, perfect for contemporary audiences and fans of feminist retellings. Prefaced by Walter's notes and guides to her eye-opening, occasionally laugh-out-loud takes, these pages give us a taste of what Gertrude longed to say about her husband (Hamlet); why Lady Macbeth felt she deserved to be Queen (Macbeth); what Juliet's nurse felt after Juliet's death (Romeo & Juliet); and how Olivia's crush causes her to question her sexuality (Twelfth Night).

Book Madam President Revised Edition

Download or read book Madam President Revised Edition written by Eleanor Clift and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first Madam President will be sworn in sooner than most people think. But the gender gap in politics is still shockingly broad, say two of America's most readable political commentators in this timely look at the nation's sputtering efforts to envision a woman in America's top job.(The Boston Globe ). Charting the transformation of women's power in American politics from the first female presidential candidate (Victoria Woodhull in 1872) to the shattered presidential hopes of Shirley Chisholm and Elizabeth Dole, Madam President presents tales of passion, determination, set-backs, and triumph from nearly all national women politicians and most leading state politicians in the pipeline. With insight garnered from years on the Washington political scene and candid interviews with leading politicians like Christine Todd Whitman and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Clift and Brazaitis explain why the barriers to women are still formidable: There are only 3 female governors (one of the best routes to the White House) and at the current rate it will take 250 years before there are as many women Senators and Representatives as men. A forward-looking, savvy analysis of women in politics, Madam President gives the first inside look at how America's female politicians got there, stayed there, and what it will take for them to make it to the presidency.

Book Lady Mary Wortley Montagu

Download or read book Lady Mary Wortley Montagu written by Isobel Grundy and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1999 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to look at Lady Mary Wortley Montagu's achievement as a vital figure in the women's literary tradition. Robert Halsband's book on her life, the sixth this century and published in 1956, was the first to apply scholarly techniques to establishing the facts. The inaccurateaccounts given before Halsband testify to Lady Mary's compelling interest as a woman who wrote, travelled, campaigned publicly for medical advance, gossiped, and was involved in high-profile literary quarrels. Knowledge of her life has made considerable gains since Halsband, as understanding of theissues involved in trying to move between the roles of proper lady and woman writer has increased enormously. This life fruitfully exploits the tension between literary history and feminist reading. Isobel Grundy highlights Montagu's adolescent longing for literary fame, her growing understandingof the implications of this for gender and class imperatives, the frustrations and concessions involved in her collaborations with male writers, the punitive responses of society, the gaps at every stage of her life between her ascertainable circumstances and her construction of herself in lettersand other writings. The book situates those writings in relation to her own theorizing and her very wide reading in women's texts as well as men's. Finally, it looks at a range of contemporary and near-contemporary responses.

Book Middle Egyptian

Download or read book Middle Egyptian written by Peter Beylage and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2018-09-12 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This grammar provides a comprehensive overview of Middle Egyptian and illustrates its grammatical features with extensive examples from various sources. Exercises at the end of each chapter, along with a sign list and a hieroglyphic word list, provide the reader with the means to apply and practice the content, enabling this book to be used as both a grammar reference and a textbook. The book’s structure and detailed outline facilitate its use as a reference, making it easy to find information on any particular grammatical feature. At the same time, the extensive content of the forty chapters provides a suitable basis for self-guided study and enables the student to read and understand Egyptian inscriptions and literary texts in hieroglyphic transliteration. Recent developments in the understanding of Egyptian are exemplified in numerous quotations from Egyptian texts, and exercises at the end of each chapter provide further opportunity for considering the grammatical phenomena discussed in the chapter, allowing for both practice and review. For reasons of convenience, the vocabulary necessary for the exercises, along with the words used in the examples, are arranged into a word list at the end of the book. Similar and alternative grammatical constructions are compared, and in addition to the “classical” language of the Middle Kingdom, the book considers both Old Egyptian and Late Egyptian influences. As a hybrid reference and textbook, this volume introduces the reader to the grammatical features of Middle Egyptian and illustrates the means of expression used in ancient Egyptian.
