Book Research Studies for Supersonic Combustion

Download or read book Research Studies for Supersonic Combustion written by J. Tamagno and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary is presented of research on supersonic combustion conducted during a 4 year period by GASL. The research discussed is oriented toward fuels and conditions pertaining to supersonic combustion in ramjet engines. Fields encompassed are (1) reaction kinetics of a hydrogen air system, (2) diffusion and combustion of reacting gases, and (3) the testing of highly idealized combustion processes. Studies in the latter field indicate the speed range for supersonic combustion ramjets can be lowered to the 3-6 Mach number range. It is concluded that sufficient progress has been made on the understanding and analysis of supersonic combustion processes to give a sound basis for application to the design of a practical ramjet engine. Book Unsteady Supersonic Combustion

Download or read book Unsteady Supersonic Combustion written by Mingbo Sun and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-14 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the unsteady phenomena needed to understand supersonic combustion. Following an initial chapter that introduces readers to the basic concepts in and classical studies on unsteady supersonic combustion, the book highlights recent studies on unsteady phenomena, which offer insights on e.g. interactions between acoustic waves and flames, flow dominating instability, ignition instability, flame flashback, and near-blowout-limit combustion. In turn, the book discusses in detail the fundamental mechanisms of these phenomena, and puts forward practical suggestions for future scramjet design.

Book Supersonic Combustion Air Dissociation Through Shock Waves and Aerodynamics of Chemically Reacting Gases in a Planar Converging Diverging Nozzles

Download or read book Supersonic Combustion Air Dissociation Through Shock Waves and Aerodynamics of Chemically Reacting Gases in a Planar Converging Diverging Nozzles written by Dennis W. Schroll and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much research has been accomplished to develope a supersonic ramjet engine. Very little headway has been made in theoretical design techniques as many of the standard computational methods used for ramjet subsonic combustion do not apply. For instance, it is possible to use a constant area nozzle for subsonic combustion in a ramjet as heat addition and frictional effects in the combustion chamber will decrease the pressure and accelerate the flow. For supersonic combustion the velocity decreases tending to choke the flow. To overcome this area increase in the combustion zone is used. A strong normal shock on the diffuser inlet for free stream mach numbers of 5 and 10 and the shock free flow of these mach numbers are assumed. Accompanied with the strong normal shock are large stagnation pressure losses in the diffuser inlet, meaning the diffuser inlet will act as a flat plate to oncoming airflow. For this reason, it would be best to provide air spillage and not use too large an inlet. The final Thrust Specific Fuel Comsumption values are sufficiently high to warrant further investigation into supersonic combustion as a method of propulsion.

Download or read book Scramjets written by Mostafa Barzegar Gerdroodbary and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2020-08-14 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scramjet engines are a type of jet engine and rely on the combustion of fuel and an oxidizer to produce thrust. While scramjets are conceptually simple, actual implementation is limited by extreme technical challenges. Hypersonic flight within the atmosphere generates immense drag, and temperatures found on the aircraft and within the engine can be much greater than that of the surrounding air. Maintaining combustion in the supersonic flow presents additional challenges, as the fuel must be injected, mixed, ignited, and burned within milliseconds. Fuel mixing, along with the configuration and positioning of the injectors and the boundary conditions, play a key role in combustion efficiency. Scramjets: Fuel Mixing and Injection Systems discusses how fuel mixing efficiency and the advantage of injection systems can enhance the performance of the scramjets. The book begins with the introduction of the supersonic combustion chamber and explains the main parameters on the mixing rate. The configuration of scramjets is then introduced with special emphasis on the main effective parameters on the mixing of fuel inside the scramjets. In addition, basic concepts and principles on the mixing rate and fuel distribution within scramjets are presented. Main effective parameters such as range of fuel concentration for the efficient combustion, pressure of fuel jet and various arrangement of jet injections are also explained. This book is for aeronautical and mechanical engineers as well as those working in supersonic combustion who need to know the effects of compressibility on combustion, of shocks on mixing and on chemical reactions, and vorticity on the flame anchoring. Explains the main applicable approaches for enhancement of supersonic combustion engines and the new techniques of fuel injection Shows how the interaction of main air stream with fuel injections can develop the mixing inside the scramjets Presents results of numerical simulations and how they can be used for the development of the combustion engines
