Book The Use of Trajectories in Terminal Forecasting

Download or read book The Use of Trajectories in Terminal Forecasting written by United States. Air Weather Service and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Winter Trajectory Test Program was conducted as part of the AWS Forecaster Assistance Program. The objective of this test was to determine if three-dimensional trajectories derived from the output of the AFGWC Six-level Forecast Model are useful in the preparation of terminal forecasts. Hq AWS personnel used trajectory data to evaluate forecasts prepared at detachments in the central and eastern United States and to modify some of these forecasts. These trajectory data improved the four-month verification of the terminal forecasts by 3.1 percent. Tests were conducted in 1 Wea Wg and 2 Wea Wg and results from these overseas units are discussed. Forecast procedures and the application of objective rules developed during the winter evaluation are described in several case studies.

Book The Use of Trajectories in Terminal Forecasting Second Report

Download or read book The Use of Trajectories in Terminal Forecasting Second Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trajectory forecasting techniques have been introduced at 75 Air Weather Service forecast units. Trajectory data, in the form of parcel origins and forecast temperatures, dew points, and cloud amounts, are transmitted twice daily to these forecast units. These data are a by-product of the Air Force Global Weather Central's (AFGWC) Multi-Level Cloud-Forecasting Model and are used to supplement conventional forecast tools. In addition, 600-meter (above ground level) temperature and dew-point forecasts from AFGWC's Boundary-Layer Model are included in the trajectory bulletin. Trajectory techniques have been integrated subjectively and objectively into forecast procedures with encouraging results. Ceiling and visibility forecasts prepared with trajectory data have verified better than forecasts prepared without trajectory data. This report discusses past evaluation programs, characteristics of the trajectory model, and procedures for using the data in forecast applications. (Author).

Book Use of the Flow Angularity Technique for Predicting Store Separation Trajectories

Download or read book Use of the Flow Angularity Technique for Predicting Store Separation Trajectories written by Stephen C. Korn and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is being developed for solving the store separation trajectory problem by flow angularity techniques. This approach uses experimentally measured interference flow field data coupled with store free stream aerodynamic coefficients. Presently, the flow field about the inboard triple ejector rack loaded with M-117 bombs at Mach 0.85 on the F-4 aircraft is being used to predict the trajectory of other stores launched from the inboard triple ejector rack at subsonic and transonic Mach numbers. Sample comparisons of trajectories produced by the captive trajectory system are presented. This technique allows calculation of the trajectory until the store impacts on the ground. Sample miss distances caused by the interference flow field calculated using the flow angularity technique are presented for the M-117 bomb. (Author).
