Book Topical Fluorides A literature review

Download or read book Topical Fluorides A literature review written by Kuldeep Dhama and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2017-04-25 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental caries is a multi factorial, bacterial, chronic infection that affects millions of people in the world and has become a public health problem. Also referred to as tooth decay, this disease is one of the most common disorders throughout the world, second only to the common cold. Dental caries is the most common chronic childhood disease in the United States and is 5 to 7 times more common than asthma. According to the World Oral Health Report in 2003, dental caries affect 60-80% of school children and a vast majority of adults. Dental caries is a chronic bacterial infection of the hard tissue of the tooth that is characterized by alternating phases of demineralization and remineralization. Dental decay can lead to significant pain and dysfunction that can interfere with basic functions such as eating, sleeping, and speaking. If left untreated, dental caries can result in cavities forming and, eventually, tooth loss. Although the prevalence and severity of dental caries has decreased over the years, this disease can be controlled better with proper fluoride exposure. Fluoride dentifrices have been shown in numerous clinical trials to be effective anticaries agents and have been recognized as a major cause of the remarkable decline in caries prevalence in many developed countries. Dentifrices have been widely adopted around the world as the principle means of delivering topical fluoride and obtaining caries preventive benefits. Although there is documented literature on the use of topical fluorides, the issue needs to be further researched based on the recent documented literature and guidelines regarding use of topical fluorides. Hence, the present review was conducted with the aim to review the available literature on the use and effectiveness of different topical fluorides used in dentistry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides essential knowledge for creating treatment plans for adult dental patients. Treatment planning strategies are presented to help with balancing the ideal with the practical, with emphasis placed on the central role of the patient — whose needs should drive the treatment planning process. The focus is on planning of treatment, not on the comprehensive details of every treatment modality in dentistry. CD-ROM bound into book presents five cases of varying difficulty with interactive exercises that allow users to plan treatment. What's the Evidence? boxes link clinical decision-making and treatment planning strategies to current research. In Clinical Practice boxes highlight specific clinical situations faced by the general dentist. Review Questions and Suggested Projects, located at the end of each chapter, summarize and reinforce important concepts presented in the book. Key Terms and Glossary highlights the terms that are most important to the reader. Suggested Readings lists included at the end of most chapters provide supplemental resources. Chapter on Treatment Planning for Smokers and Patients with Oral Cancer addresses the dentist's role in managing patients with oral cancer, recognizing oral cancer and differential diagnosis of oral lesions, planning treatment for patients undergoing cancer therapy, and smoking cessation strategies. Chapter on Treatment Planning for the Alcohol and Substance Abuser discusses the challenges of treating this patient population, as well as how to recognize the problem, delivery of care, scope of treatment, and behavioral/compliance issues. Expanded content on Ethical and Legal Issues in Treatment Planning reflects new accreditation guidelines. Dental Team Focus boxes highlight the relevance of chapter content to the dental team. Book Pit and Fissure sealants

Download or read book Pit and Fissure sealants written by Sharon Priscilla and published by Clever Fox Publishing. This book was released on with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental caries is an imbalance between the gain and loss of minerals. The minerals are lost from teeth by acids produced by bacteria within the mouth whereas minerals are gained from saliva and fluorides present in the oral cavity. Posterior teeth have fissures while anterior teeth have cingulum or pits. These pits and fissure are most prone to dental decay as food gets trapped in them and are difficult to clean. Pit and fissure sealants are material used to fill these pits and fissures to create a smooth surface making it easy to clean. Pit and fissure sealants are commonly used in pediatric patients and erupting permanent molars as they are at high risk. Pit and fissure sealants are a preventive treatment method where a barrier is created and removes biofilm from the occlusal surface. This library dissertation highlights various pit and fissure sealants, their indication, contraindication, technique of application.
