Book The Use of Interactive Whiteboards by Prince Edward Island High School Teachers

Download or read book The Use of Interactive Whiteboards by Prince Edward Island High School Teachers written by Ryan A. Casey and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Masters of Education thesis used a questionnaire to examine Prince Edward Island high school teachers' self-reported practices related to interactive whiteboards in their classrooms and the factors influencing their interactive whiteboard use. Despite research suggesting that interactive whiteboards have the potential to improve student academic achievement, the extent to which this technology can actually achieve these claims was likely dependent on many factors. Factors identified in this thesis as hindering teachers' interactive whiteboard use and by extension, students' learning, were the understanding of what interactivity with an interactive whiteboard is, teachers' attitudes towards using interactive whiteboards, and the theoretical and practical training provided to teachers.

Book Understanding how Interactive Whiteboard Technology Supports Teaching and Learning

Download or read book Understanding how Interactive Whiteboard Technology Supports Teaching and Learning written by Dustin Jenkins and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School districts around the United States have been purchasing Interactive Whiteboards with the hopes that teachers will create engaging lessons to support student learning. Unfortunately, these boards are being placed in teachers’ classrooms without a proper training on how to use the vast array of tools an interactive whiteboard can offer. This study used a design-based research approach to understand the role of instructional videos play in supporting teachers in using the tools offered by the interactive whiteboards. To determine the needs and different comfort level using an interactive whiteboard, the researcher interviewed three female middle school science teachers in a school district located in Southern California. Based on the interviews with teachers, the researcher created a website with six instructional videos that focused on six specific tools. One teacher was selected to watch all six videos and create a lesson to teach her students while the researcher observed and took field notes. After the lesson, the researcher debriefed the teacher about how the videos helped support her learning when implementing engaging tools in a flipchart. This study suggests that the quality of the videos which include HD video, high quality sound, proper pacing, clear spoken audio, and scaffolding the lesson led to higher understanding how to implement tools. Instructional videos were effective in supporting teachers because of the ability to pause, rewind, and re-watch a video based on their convenience. The educational implications and future directions are discussed.

Book The Use of Interactive Whiteboards as Effective Instructional Tools for Secondary School Mathematics Education

Download or read book The Use of Interactive Whiteboards as Effective Instructional Tools for Secondary School Mathematics Education written by and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics teachers face many challenges in their classrooms when trying to educate their students. The introduction and use of technology such as interactive whiteboards (IWBs) may help teachers overcome some of the current challenges related to pedagogical practice, student learning and engagement, and classroom management without requiring too much of a financial and time commitment from staff to implement. This qualitative study presents my experiences as a mathematics educator. It is a narrative inquiry of my teaching career and use of IWBs in the classroom. It is a recount of my own experiences in the classroom with my students, colleagues, as well as other school personnel. The exploration of my experiences reveals how IWBs have impacted mathematics education for both students and teachers.

Book Interactive Whiteboard Transition

Download or read book Interactive Whiteboard Transition written by Jason Scott Beach and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This case study examined the process teachers use when incorporating interactive whiteboards in the classroom and daily curriculum. Participants were drawn from a small group of three elementary and three high school teachers who received an interactive whiteboard, but no formal training. The school system purchased over 300 interactive whiteboards and was not able to adequately train all of the teachers before the beginning of the school year. Findings were compared to relevant models of andragogy, TPACK, and CBAM. The results indicate that a teacher's prior technological ability aids in the implementation of new technologies in the classroom. The findings also indicate the importance of peer-support and proximity when dealing with technical difficulties. There is an apparent need for a technology-specific adoption model that utilizes the technical experience teachers bring with them when they enter the classroom. The researcher introduces a working model for this process.

Book Implementation of Interactive Whiteboards by High School Mathematics Teachers

Download or read book Implementation of Interactive Whiteboards by High School Mathematics Teachers written by Jeffrey Scott Hall and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess how mathematics teachers with varying years of Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) experience differ in their implementation of IWBs. The theoretical frameworks were constructivism and change theory. Six teachers participated in the full scale study, two in each IWB experience category: Beginner, Intermediate, and Experienced. Instruments of the Concerns Based Adoption Model were used to collect data about the participants: the Stages of Concern Questionnaire measured participants' concerns about IWBs (George, Hall, & Stiegelbauer, 2006) while the Levels of Use Interview Protocol analyzed IWB usage (Hall, Dirksen, & George, 2006). Two lessons of each participant were also video-recorded and analyzed according to the guidelines of Glover, Miller, Averis, and Door (2007). A mixed methods case study approach was utilized to compare the IWB users within and between groups. Quantitative analyses of the Stages of Concern Questionnaire indicated that IWB experience does influence concerns; teachers with more IWB experience generally reported higher Stages of Concern than less experienced IWB users. Effective collaboration with an Experienced IWB user, however, can greatly improve the concerns of a Beginner IWB user. Qualitative analyses of the Levels of Use interviews and the video-recorded lessons indicated that IWB experience does impact usage during lessons. In general, more experienced IWB users demonstrated greater knowledge about IWB features and how to integrate them into lessons to improve student learning. Again, effective collaboration with an Experienced IWB user appeared to improve the performance of a Beginner IWB user compared to other, less experienced IWB users. Collaborations between similarly experienced participants who shared time management concerns did not seem to have as much of an impact on IWB knowledge. Based on the findings of this study, the following efforts should be pursued to maximize the benefits of IWB technology in mathematics classrooms: encourage collaboration, provide full-time access to IWB technology, use IWBs with other technologies, ensure adequate training, and properly install the IWB's projector to reduce recalibration needs.

Book The Impact of Interactive Whiteboards on Teaching and Classroom Dynamics

Download or read book The Impact of Interactive Whiteboards on Teaching and Classroom Dynamics written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation centers on the social, cultural, and historical aspects of Vista Elementary, a school that was first in its district specifically built with the idea of technological advances in mind. The principal of Vista Elementary, two Third Grade teachers identified as the SMARTBoard technology embracers, and their students were participants in this study. The research questions guiding this study are: 1) What are the impacts of interactive whiteboards on teaching and classroom dynamics of teachers who embrace this technology? and 2) How do social, cultural, and historical practices influence the activity around the interactive whiteboards? Amidst the literature, there is ongoing blame placed on teachers for underusing or overusing technologies, and nothing about the function of a school and the important role of community and parental involvement have been explored in the fields of educational technology. Through the Grounded Theory analysis techniques, an adapted theoretical framework of the Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) as well as the Theory of Diffusion of Innovation (TDI), this study has filled some of the aforementioned gaps and has offered even more. This dissertation emphasizes the notion of technology as a tool, and thus is able to offer an outlook on the variety of teaching pedagogies and classroom practices both with and without technology. Such an outlook was achieved through analyzing how Vista Elementary functions as a societal activity system that is diffused with two innovations, namely CARES and the SMARTBoard technology. CARES, an abbreviation for "Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control," is the school's pledge, which the school's culture, rules, and activities revolve around. CARES emerged as a key innovation that was necessary in this school for the diffusion of other technologies. This study suggests that the adoption of these innovations was made swift through Vista's community practices. These practices, which emerged through the data analyses, are community building, developing routines, and balancing act. Reciprocally, the innovations themselves have enforced such practices and made the practices all the stronger. Such practices uncovered in this study are the mix that was necessary for Vista to successfully diffuse innovations into its system and function efficiently as a community. Implications of this study include the need to expand the scope of technological research to the community and context in which teachers and technologies are situated, rather than limiting investigations specifically to the individuals and their use or non-use of new technologies.

Book excerpt: "This study employed a mixed model approach to investigate the use of interactive white boards among a group of teachers in a small, northern public school system. Interactive whiteboards were new to these schools and little was known about the effects this technology had upon the teachers’ pedagogies and teaching strategies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate those effects by determining the frequencies, levels, and types of interactive whiteboard utilization. The participants were also asked to identify the professional development supports that would assist them to improve the effectiveness of their use of interactive whiteboards. Following the analyses of the quantitative and qualitative data, the combined results of the study were used to prepare a description of the pioneers’ utilization of interactive whiteboards and identify professional development recommendations to facilitate the integration of whiteboards in this school system."--Leaf ii.

Book Teachers Perceptions of the Interactive Whiteboard

Download or read book Teachers Perceptions of the Interactive Whiteboard written by Chad M. Jones and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Interactive Whiteboard is quickly becoming a mainstay in the modern classroom. While it is being heralded as a powerful tool that has the potential to increase student motivation and teacher instructional flexibility, little research has been done to evaluate teacher perceptions toward the device. An analysis of those perceptions is key to understanding how to best implement the use of these tools on school campuses. As part of that need for a deeper understanding regarding teachers’ perceptions of the Interactive Whiteboard, it is also important to investigate how professional development relates to those perceptions. This study used the Technology Acceptance Model questionnaire to evaluate teacher perceptions of the Interactive Whiteboard and offers an analysis of how the amount and type training received on the Interactive Whiteboard relates to those perceptions. Based on the results of this study, there was only a small to moderate relationship between teacher perceptions and the amount and type of training teachers had received on the Interactive Whiteboard, although ancillary variables show that there may be a stronger relationship with training and perceptions that this study could not define. Further research is needed regarding the relationship of teacher perceptions and training, but the relationships found in this study are still valuable as a guide for educational leaders regarding concepts to consider when seeking to integrate Interactive Whiteboards on K-12 campuses.

Book Teaching and Learning in Digital World

This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many reports over the last few years have analysed the potential use of games, videogames, 3D environments and virtual reality for educational purposes. Numerous emerging technological devices have also appeared that will play important roles in the development of teaching and learning processes. In the context of these developments, learning rather than teaching becomes the main axis in the organisation of the educational process. This process has now gone beyond the analogue world and face-toface education to enter the digital world, where new learning environments are being produced with ever greater doses of realism. Teaching and Learning in Digital Worlds examines the teaching and learning process in 3D virtual environments from both the theoretical and practical points of view.
