Book The Use of Aeroelastic Wind Tunnel Models to Prove Structural Design

Download or read book The Use of Aeroelastic Wind Tunnel Models to Prove Structural Design written by H. Hoenlinger and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a wind tunnel study on an aeroelastic carbon fiber fin/rudder model it is demonstrated how structural design methods can be checked by experiment, beginning in an early stage of the design. Emphasis was put on the static aeroelastic investigations which become more important high performance A/C design. Transonic measurements with a rigid balance based on piezo force transducers and an opto-electronic deformation measurement method were successfully performed. It was tried to evaluate rudder efficiencies from these aeroelastic measurements. A non-linear behaviour of the rudder based on geometrical coupling with the fin box played an important role in the test evaluation.

Book Wind Tunnel Testing of High Rise Buildings

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Testing of High Rise Buildings written by Peter Irwin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1960s, wind tunnel testing has become a commonly used tool in the design of tall buildings. It was pioneered, in large part, during the design of the World Trade Center Towers in New York. Since those early days of wind engineering, wind tunnel testing techniques have developed in sophistication, but these techniques are not widely understood by the designers using the results. As a direct result, the CTBUH Wind Engineering Working Group was formed to develop a concise guide for the non-specialist. The primary goal of this guide is to provide an overview of the wind tunnel testing process for design professionals. This knowledge allows readers to ask the correct questions of their wind engineering consultants throughout the design process. This is not an in-depth guide to the technical intricacies of wind tunnel testing, it focusses instead on the information the design community needs, including: a unique methodology for the presentation of wind tunnel results to allow straightforward comparison of results from different wind tunnel laboratories. advice on when a tall building is likely to be sufficiently sensitive to wind effects to benefit from a wind tunnel test background for assessing whether design codes and standards are applicable details of the types of tests that are commonly conducted descriptions of the fundamentals of wind climate and the interaction of wind and tall buildings This unique book is an essential guide for all designers of tall buildings, and anyone else interested in the process of wind tunnel testing for tall buildings.

Book Modeling the Benchmark Active Control Technology Wind tunnel Model for Active Control Design Applications

Download or read book Modeling the Benchmark Active Control Technology Wind tunnel Model for Active Control Design Applications written by Martin R. Waszak and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the formulation of a model of the dynamic behavior of the Benchmark Active Controls Technology (BACT) wind tunnel for active control design and analysis applications. The model is formed by combining the equations of motion for the BACT wind tunnel model with actuator models and a model of wind tunnel turbulence. The primary focus of this report is the development of the equations of motion from first principles by using Lagrange's equations and the principle of virtual work. A numerical form of the model is generated by making use of parameters obtained from both experiment and analysis. Comparisons between experimental and analytical data obtained from the numerical model show excellent agreement and suggest that simple coefficient-based aerodynamics are sufficient to accurately characterize the aeroelastic response of the BACT wind tunnel model. The equations of motion developed herein have been used to aid in the design and analysis of a number of flutter suppresion controllers that have been successfully implemented.

Book Advances in Frontier Research on Engineering Structures

Download or read book Advances in Frontier Research on Engineering Structures written by A. Cheshmehzangi and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2023-10-19 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil architecture and structural engineering may be subjects to which most of us never give a second thought, but both these disciplines are crucial to the built environment in which we live, and without the skills of those who work in them, our buildings and infrastructure would lack the safety and reliability that we all take for granted. This book presents the proceedings of ICCASE 2023, the 7th International Conference on Civil Architecture and Structural Engineering, held in Guangzhou, China, from 14 - 16 April 2023 as a virtual event, and attended by around 250 international participants. The aim of the conference was to discuss recent advances and new perspectives in civil architecture and structural engineering, and to gain insight into the current state of the field and future scenarios. A total of 190 submissions were received for the conference, of which 78 were accepted for presentation after peer review. These are divided into 4 sections: civil construction and underground structure analysis; underground space and special structure engineering; construction material quality and performance research; and structural seismic design and reinforcement engineering. Topics covered included high-rise buildings and large-span structures; the monitoring and control of structures, tunnels and underground structures; calculation principles of the seismic design of structures; and seismic isolation technology of structures, among others. The book offers a comprehensive overview of civil architecture and structural engineering today, and will be of interest to all those working in the field.
