Download or read book The Use of Accident Data for Evaluating the Safety of Urban Transportation written by H. Biddle and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three primary factors are considered applicable to the evaluation of transportation system safety--accident rate, injury rate and death rate. Costs are also applicable but commensurable cost data do not seem to be available. Data are presented for some of these measures for three urban transportation modes--the automobile, the bus and the subway. (Author).

This book was released on 1981 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Road Research Group was established to review the most appropriate techniques for the assessment of the effectiveness of safety measures and the determination of their relative priorities. The study, in which experts from 15 countries participated, examines the issue of identifying traffic safety measures in the present context of policy and decision-making in this field, and sets forth the various criteria for assessing their impacts. The major part of this study is devoted to methods of determining effectiveness of counter-measures as well as techniques of evaluation and priority setting. The group also attempted to review current use of evaluation procedures in Member countries, presenting a number of examples of evaluations recently carried out. A list of conclusions and recommendations for those responsible for decision-making in the field of traffic safety and the implementation of accident countermeasures as well as a compilation of further research needs.

Book Accident Data Quality

Download or read book Accident Data Quality written by James O'Day and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1993 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to highway department administrators, accident records personnel, information systems and data processing management personnel, highway traffic and safety engineers, drivers' licensing officials, state and local police, as well as federal agencies, industries, traffic safety associations, and others responsible for the collection, analysis, and use of accident data. Information is provided on national accident data banks in addition to state and local practice associated with accident data collection, analysis, and evaluation. This synthesis describes current practice with respect to the characteristics and importance of accident data quality, including the reporting and data collection procedures, the analysis and quality control measures employed, and the communications systems used. This report of the Transportation Research Board discusses accident records systems, including data sources and users, considers the effects of inadequate data on analyses, and reviews data acquisition and processing programs that have had good results in the states using them. Recommendations for improving operating systems and for additional research are included.

Book Economic Characteristics of the Urban Public Transportation Industry

Download or read book Economic Characteristics of the Urban Public Transportation Industry written by John Dearborn Wells and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to presenting an overview of the economic conditions in the urban public transit industry as a whole, this project incorporated four papers that investigated separately the economic characteristics of the urban bus, rail rapid, commuter rail, and taxicab industries. Also included were three papers in which an econometric model of urban bus transit was developed, regulatory constraints and their implications were reviewed, and external effects of urban transit operations such as air and noise pollution and accident were analyzed. The analyses tended to be rather general, concluding that demand deficiency, especially for bus transit, was the main cause of the economic difficulties of urban transit systems.

Book Highway Safety Analytics and Modeling

Download or read book Highway Safety Analytics and Modeling written by Dominique Lord and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highway Safety Analytics and Modeling comprehensively covers the key elements needed to make effective transportation engineering and policy decisions based on highway safety data analysis in a single. reference. The book includes all aspects of the decision-making process, from collecting and assembling data to developing models and evaluating analysis results. It discusses the challenges of working with crash and naturalistic data, identifies problems and proposes well-researched methods to solve them. Finally, the book examines the nuances associated with safety data analysis and shows how to best use the information to develop countermeasures, policies, and programs to reduce the frequency and severity of traffic crashes. Complements the Highway Safety Manual by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Provides examples and case studies for most models and methods Includes learning aids such as online data, examples and solutions to problems
