Book The Cordilleran Miogeosyncline in North America

Download or read book The Cordilleran Miogeosyncline in North America written by Henry V. Lyatsky and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-10 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steep crustal-scale faults, having their origins in the Late Archean and Early Proterozoic and trending NE-SW, which define the fundamental block lithospheric structure of the North American craton, are seen from geological and geophysical evidence to continue far into the interior of the Late Proterozoic-Phanerozoic Canadian Cordilleran mobile megabelt. This suggests that variously reworked ex-cratonic basement blocks underlie much of the Cordillera. The western edge of the modern craton is probably near the Rocky Mountain-Omineca belt boundary; the Rocky Mountain fold-and-thrust belt on the east side of the Cordillera is evidently rootless and overlies the undisturbed cratonic basement. Phanerozoic differences between the Cordilleran tectonic belts, resulting from a long, dissimilar, multi-cycle history of waxing and waning orogenesis apparent from the rock record, lie chiefly in the degree of indigenous tectonic remobilization and reworking of the ancient crust.

Book Lithology Trace Fossils and Correlation of Precambrian Cambrian Boundary Beds Cassiar Mountains North Central British Columbia

Download or read book Lithology Trace Fossils and Correlation of Precambrian Cambrian Boundary Beds Cassiar Mountains North Central British Columbia written by William Harold Fritz and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1985 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trace fossils from the upper part of the Stelkuz formation (609m +) and from the overlying Boya Formation (400.5 m) permit atentative definition of the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary in theCassiar Mountains. The strata investigated are below the top ofthe Lower Cambrian Fallotaspis Zone, a level located 1.5 m abovethe upper contact of the Boya Formation. The Precambrian-Cambrian boundary is tentatively placed 592 m below this level ata disconformity within the Stelkuz Formation. Correlations withother boundary strata in the Canadian Cordillera suggest theoptimum area for further testing ichnofossil ranges is in theMackenzie Mountains. Intercontinental correlations are alsoattempted.

Book Geological Survey of Canada Current Research Online no 2000 A5

Download or read book Geological Survey of Canada Current Research Online no 2000 A5 written by Martin De Keijzer and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2000 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A well-exposed section about 250 metres wide below the high water line of the Jennings River, Teslin Lake map area in northern British Columbia shows part of the Teslin Fault and provides an opportunity to constrain the fault's kinematic history by direct ground observations. This report describes preliminary structural observations of this section of the Teslin Fault, including the rock types involved, mylonitic & ultramylonitic structures, and deformation. Indications of two main episodes of shearing are discussed.

Book Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Galore Creek Area 104G 3 4

Download or read book Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Galore Creek Area 104G 3 4 written by James Metcalfe Logan and published by Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. This book was released on 1994 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sphaler Creek and Flood Glacier map areas comprise the Galore Creek area, located within the Coast Mountains between the Stikine River and Mess Creek. The large tonnage Galore Creek alkaline porphyry copper-gold-silver deposit is located within the area mapped. Results of regional mapping and sampling in 1988 are summarized in the report. This report and accompanying maps incorporates new data and revisions to the 1:50 000 geology and mineral occurrence map. The project was conducted to produce detailed geological maps and a database better able to understand the Galore Creek area and aid in making new discoveries.
