Kennedys decision as to whether we would go to nuclear war in 1961 with Cuba whose allies were with Russia. At that time this subculture generation lived by their own rules some grew to adulthood without changing, some did change. There was no nuclear bomb to this day and time which fell on humankind but a great deal of testing of nuclear bombs in the waters of the earth was done.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue we are headlining the appearance of Norman Spinrad’s masterful short novel, Riding the Torch—one of my favorites of his, and a work that surely deserved more attention than it’s received. (But in a career that has produced such classics as Bug Jack Baron, The Iron Dream, and The Void Captain’s Tale, perhaps it’s understandable that one of Spinrad’s short novels hasn’t received the attention it deserved.) We also have a trio of original mysteries, four Golden Age science fiction tales, and a solve-it-yourself puzzler…more than enough to thrill even the most jaded reader! So, read on—you’re in for a treat. Here’s the complete lineup: Mysteries / Suspense / Adventure: “The Stolen Half-life of Alicia Desilva,” by Avram Lavinsky [Michael Bracken Presents short story] “The Case of the Snitched Snacks,” by Hal Charles [Solve-It-Yourself Mystery] “An Arm and a Leg,” by M. E. Proctor [Barb Goffman Presents short story] “The Devils You Know,” by Skye Alexander [short story] “Somebody Cares,” by Talmage Powell [short story] Science Fiction & Fantasy: Riding the Torch, by Norman Spinrad [short novel] “The Overlord’s Thumb,” by Robert Silverberg [short story] “Love and Moondogs,” by Richard McKenna [short story] “The Way Out,” by Richard R. Smith [short story] The High Ones, by Poul Anderson [short novel]

Book excerpt: From the author of the best selling poetry collection Love And Space Dust and the writer behind the internationally famous poetry account @storydj comes a book about love, heartbreak, life - and how to survive all three amongst the noise of our modern world. Loud World, Quiet Thoughts is divided into two parts. The first consists of short prose, aphorisms and quotes focused on the deafening noise of the modern world; of social media, of television, and pressure. It embodies the endless anxiety of contrasting voices and white noise so loud that it drowns out our own thoughts. The second consists of beautiful poetry drawn from our quietest thoughts and the depths of our souls, thoughts about love and heartbreak and, most of all, hope. Above all else, Loud World, Quiet Thoughts is a book about reconciling the secret spaces of your heart with the white noise of the world outside.

Book Yiddish Literature in America 18702000

Download or read book Yiddish Literature in America 18702000 written by Barnett Zumoff and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-01-06 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1870 and 2000, the years covered by the present volume, Yiddish literature blossomed from its modest beginnings into a world literature that is the qualitative equal of any of the world’s great literatures. Poetry and prose poured out of dozens of great authors in a way rarely seen in previous literary history. Largely unknown to many readers, a large proportion, perhaps the majority of this Yiddish literature, was written in America rather than Europe. A proper, comprehensive anthology of the American Yiddish literature did not exist until Emanuel S. Goldsmith published, in 1999, his monumental two-volume, 1300-page anthology in the original Yiddish. The current English translation by Barnett Zumoff presents about one-fourth of this material so that the reader who does not know Yiddish can have the pleasure of sampling this great literature. Selections from great authors such as Sholem Aleichem, Moris Rozenfeld, Dovid Edelshtat, Avrom Reyzn, Sholem Ash, Yehoyesh, Ana Margolin, Tsilye Drapkin, Mani Leyb, Moyshe-Leyb Halpern, Kadye Molodovsky, Rokhl Korn, H. Leyvik, Yankev Glatshteyn, Itsik Manger, Reyzl Zhikhlinsky, and Yitskhok Bashevis Zinger (Isaac Bashevis Singer) will delight the reader, and will hopefully stimulate him or her to delve further into the world of Yiddish literature.
