Book Universal Estimation of Information Measures for Analog Sources

Download or read book Universal Estimation of Information Measures for Analog Sources written by Qing Wang and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entropy, mutual information and divergence measure the randomness, dependence and dissimilarity, respectively, of random objects. In addition to their prominent role in information theory, they have found numerous applications, among others, in probability theory statistics, physics, chemistry, molecular biology, ecology, bioinformatics, neuroscience, machine learning, linguistics, and finance. Many of these applications require a universal estimate of information measures which does not assume knowledge of the statistical properties of the observed data. Over the past few decades, several nonparametric algorithms have been proposed to estimate information measures. Universal Estimation of Information Measures for Analog Sources presents a comprehensive survey of universal estimation of information measures for memoryless analog (real-valued or real vector-valued) sources with an emphasis on the estimation of mutual information and divergence and their applications. The book reviews the consistency of the universal algorithms and the corresponding sufficient conditions as well as their speed of convergence. Universal Estimation of Information Measures for Analog Sources provides a comprehensive review of an increasingly important topic in Information Theory. It will be of interest to students, practitioners and researchers working in Information Theory

Book The Universal Kabbalah

Download or read book The Universal Kabbalah written by Leonora Leet and published by Inner Traditions / Bear & Co. This book was released on 2004-09-29 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This landmark work by an innovative modern Kabbalist develops a scientific model for kabbalistic cosmology and soul psychology. Derived from the kabbalistic diagram of the Tree of Life and the author's own Sabbath Star diagram, this universal model encodes the laws of all cosmic manifestation, giving a mathematical basis to many aspects of this mystical tradition and providing a new synthesis of science and spirituality that may well write a new chapter to the Kabbalah.

Book Weil Petersson Metric on the Universal Teichmuller Space

Download or read book Weil Petersson Metric on the Universal Teichmuller Space written by Leon Armenovich Takhtadzhi︠a︡n and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this memoir, we prove that the universal Teichmuller space $T(1)$ carries a new structure of a complex Hilbert manifold and show that the connected component of the identity of $T(1)$ -- the Hilbert submanifold $T {0 (1)$ -- is a topological group. We define a Weil-Petersson metric on $T(1)$ by Hilbert space inner products on tangent spaces, compute its Riemann curvature tensor, and show that $T(1)$ is a Kahler-Einstein manifold with negative Ricci and sectional curvatures. We introduce and compute Mumford-Miller-Morita characteristic forms for the vertical tangent bundle of the universal Teichmuller curve fibration over the universal Teichmuller space. As an application, we derive Wolpert curvature formulas for the finite-dimensional Teichmuller spaces from the formulas for the universal Teichmuller space. We study in detail the Hilbert manifold structure on $T {0 (1)$ and characterize points on $T {0 (1)$ in terms of Bers and pre-Bers embeddings by proving that the Grunsky operators $B {1 $ and The results of this memoir were presented in our e-prints: Weil-Petersson metric on the universal Teichmuller space I. Curvature properties and Chern forms, arXiv:math.CV/0312172 (2003), and Weil-Petersson metric on the universal Teichmuller space II. Kahler potential and period mapping, arXiv:math.CV/0406408 (2004).

Book The Universal Republic

Download or read book The Universal Republic written by Mathias Koenig-Archibugi and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-07-02 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can humanity achieve collective self-government in a highly interdependent world? Catastrophic climate change, biodiversity loss, pandemics, war and displacement, the dangers of nuclear weapons and new technologies, and persistent poverty and inequality are among the global challenges that expose the weaknesses of existing international institutions as well as the profound disparities of power and vulnerability that exist among the world's people. The Universal Republic: A Realistic Utopia? examines whether a democratic world state is a feasible and desirable solution to the problem of establishing effective and just governance on the planet we share. While this question has haunted thinkers and doers for centuries, this book opens up novel perspectives by putting the powerful methods and rich data of contemporary social science into the service of a systematic analysis of several key dimensions of the broader theme. The first part of the book shows why a democratic world state -a universal republic- is possible: why it can be achieved, and how it can endure without generating a frightful global despotism. The second part of the book shows why the universal republic is desirable, by exploring how it can help bring under our collective control the persistent sources of coercion, harm, and other processes that affect us deeply across national borders. By combining insights from political philosophy and empirical political science, this work sheds new light on a crucial question of our time: how to bring about a more democratic world.

This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book presenting to a wide audience of readers, ranging from fans of science to professional researchers, some of the authors' recent discoveries in three distinct, but intimately related domains: probability theory (Bertrand's paradox), observation in physics (the measurement problem) and the modeling of experiments in psychology (quantum cognition). In all three of these domains of investigation, and the associated problems, the authors explain how to advantageously use the key notion of universal measurement, which constitutes the fil rouge of the whole text.
