    Book Details:
  • Author : Ephraim Radner
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 9781602586291
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book A Brutal Unity written by Ephraim Radner and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To describe the Church as "united" is a factual misnomer--even at its conception centuries ago. Ephraim Radner provides a robust rethinking of the doctrine of the church in light of Christianity's often violent and at times morally suspect history. He holds in tension the strange and transcendent oneness of God with the necessarily temporal and political function of the Church, and, in so doing, shows how the goals and failures of the liberal democratic state provide revelatory experiences that greatly enhance one's understanding of the nature of Christian unity.

Book The Unity of Movement

Download or read book The Unity of Movement written by Tommy Tsz-Ming Lee and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Displacement (of linguistic expressions) is a ubiquitous phenomenon in natural language. In the generative tradition, displacement is modelled in terms of transformation, or more precisely, movement, which establishes dependencies among syntactic constituents in a phrase structure. This book probes the question regarding to what extent movement theories can be unified. Specifically, I address issues surrounding the debate of the distinction between head movement and phrasal movement over the past few decades. The distinction presupposes that structural complexity of the moving element is correlated with its movement properties. The goal of this book is to show that this is an unwarranted assumption. Based on a number of case studies on verb displacement phenomena in Cantonese, I attempt a unified theory of movement by abandoning the head/phrase distinction in movement theories. These case studies converge on the conclusion that the phrase structure status of syntactic constituents bears a minimal role in theorizing displacement phenomena in natural language. This volume represents a minimalist pursuit of a unified theory of movement.

Book Don t Do Anything Stupid

Download or read book Don t Do Anything Stupid written by John Covington and published by Called Writers Christian Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-10 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you ever wonder what you can do as a white person to help stop racism? You would love to see people of all races treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. You want to see our society healed of racial problems. Yet at the same time, you cringe at the term “white privilege.” You feel like you’re stuck taking the blame for a lot of things you didn’t do. That’s a mental and spiritual trap. Much of the narrative on race in the US has the effect of silencing white males on the issue of racism, pushing them into a shell of inaction. That has to stop. Racism is evil. It is an issue of spiritual warfare that cannot be conquered by having a secular mindset such as identity politics. In May of 2020, John Covington felt inspired to write a book about racism. He started by posing this question to many of his black friends: If you could snap your fingers and make it happen, what would you want white men to understand about racism? Many of the answers surprised him, and they will likely surprise you too. Don’t Do Anything Stupid addresses some of the things that we need to stop doing as white folks. This book will challenge the way you think about the issue of race relations in America. It will impact the way you view yourself and how you view others. But most importantly, this book will get you moving toward solutions.

Book The End of Protestantism

Download or read book The End of Protestantism written by Peter J. Leithart and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Failure of Denominationalism and the Future of Christian Unity One of the unforeseen results of the Reformation was the shattering fragmentation of the church. Protestant tribalism was and continues to be a major hindrance to any solution to Christian division and its cultural effects. In this book, influential thinker Peter Leithart critiques American denominationalism in the context of global and historic Christianity, calls for an end to Protestant tribalism, and presents a vision for the future church that transcends post-Reformation divisions. Leithart offers pastors and churches a practical agenda, backed by theological arguments, for pursuing local unity now. Unity in the church will not be a matter of drawing all churches into a single, existing denomination, says Leithart. Returning to Catholicism or Orthodoxy is not the solution. But it is possible to move toward church unity without giving up our convictions about truth. This critique and defense of Protestantism urges readers to preserve and celebrate the central truths recovered in the Reformation while working to heal the wounds of the body of Christ.

Book Church Laws and Ecumenism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Norman Doe
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2020-09-27
  • ISBN : 1000192873
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Church Laws and Ecumenism written by Norman Doe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-27 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by experts from within their communities, this book compares the legal regimes of Christian churches as systems of religious law. The ecumenical movement, with its historical theological focus, has failed to date to address the role of church law in shaping relations between churches and fostering greater mutual understanding between them. In turn, theologians and jurists from the different traditions have not hitherto worked together on a fully ecumenical appreciation of the potential value of church laws to help, and sometimes to hinder, the achievement of greater Christian unity. This book seeks to correct this ecumenical church law deficit. It takes account of the recent formulation by an ecumenical panel of a Statement of Principles of Christian Law, which has been welcomed by Pope Francis and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, leader of the Orthodox Church worldwide, as recognizing the importance of canon law for ecumenical dialogue. This book, therefore, not only provides the fruits of an understanding of church laws within ten Christian traditions, but also critically evaluates the Statement against the laws of these individual ecclesial communities. The book will be an essential resource for scholars of law and religion, theology, and sociology. It will also be of interest to those working in religious institutions and policy-makers.

Book Visible Church Visible Unity

Download or read book Visible Church Visible Unity written by Ola Tjørhom and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Visible Church-Visible Unity Ola Tjorhom explores central questions in current ecclesiological and ecumenical debates from the perspective of an evangelical catholicity of "the Great Tradition of the Church." Tjorhom shows how the fundamental visibility of the Church and the similarly visible nature of church fellowship is a corrective cover against "invisible" perceptions of these entities. This theme of visibility is developed in view of the sacraments, the ministries, and the mission of the Church. Visible Church-Visible Unity includes "Chapter 1: Toward the End of the Reformation Project? The Riddle of Protestantism," "Chapter 2: The Great Tradition of the Church'-An Old Way Forward?" "Chapter 3: The Church-Mother of Faith and Priest of Creation," "Chapter 4: The Goal of Visible Unity-Reaffirming Our Commitment," and "Chapter 5: Life in the Spirit-Toward a 'Materialist' Spirituality."

Book excerpt: Child of Mine, Know This is a loving message reminding children of all ages that their physical bodies are just a part of who they are. It's an inspirational message for parents who believe that their children's beautiful spirits are thousands of years old and wiser than we imagine. It's a heartfelt reminder of the bond between parents and children that was perhaps created over the course of many lifetimes, and the promises we made to each other before we embarked on this journey of life. When parents and children are able to see each other through spiritual eyes, they can look past the illusion of separateness and enter into the unconditional love of oneness with Spirit.

Download or read book All Together Different written by J. Brian Tucker and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can we all just get along? E Pluribus Unum: “Out of many, one.” This motto is emblazoned on the Great Seal of the United States, but it could be the church’s model, too. Unfortunately, the daily experience of many Christians and churches feels like the opposite: out of one, many. We are increasingly aware of what makes us different from others, and it is hurting the church and its witness. All Together Different will help readers understand why we find it so difficult “to just get along.” Drawing from research on personal and group identity, it equips readers to navigate a culture that often pays lip service to the value of diversity, but struggles to foster constructive dialogue and mutual respect. With clear writing and real-life stories, All Together Different translates social identity theory for pastors, church leaders, and ministry practitioners, exposing it to the light of biblical and theological reflection.

Book excerpt: The Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds perform incredible feats of aeronautics, but only because their minds, hearts, and bodies are perfectly synchronized. In the same way, leaders get the most out of their teams when they raise the level of unity. In this book, Rob Ketterling explains that most teams function at the speed of agreement, which means they have a job description, but very few common commitments. The second level, the speed of vision, is about the best most teams hope for, but as they move faster and farther, they create more tension with each other. The top speed, the speed of unity, only happens when people are emotionally and volitionally invested in the success of the team, not just individual accomplishments. Rob's principles and advice will challenge you and inspire you. Hang on. It's going to be a fast ride!
